Alvaro Morata

The media stirring continues

True. They have their ways to plant intrigue. But I'll admit, if I didn't read further, I would have been disappointed with Alvaro

I think he has been poor since his return. Pretty anonymous tonight. I know it's hard to be a striker when the team isn't playing well but he showed no movement or imagination. Agreed he needs to buck his ideas up.

This in effect is his first season as the main man. He undoubtedly has the skill and aptitude to fulfill this role, question is though has he the mentality? He seems a little 'powderpuff',gets bullied far too often for my liking. It's his first season with us, so gets cut some slack and it would help if Bats was pushing him for the first team selection. Time will tell if he improves enough to be the main man, gut feeling though his stay with us will be more short term ( 2/3yrs) unless we get a striker in that will contrast his undoubted skillset.

We’re expecting our strikers to do too much and then berate them when they can’t do everything all at once. They’re always isolated, and get very little service from midfield. Somehow we expect them to start moves and hold up the ball, dribble through 6 defenders and score. Its incredibly frustrating to see us play a long ball forward and expect the strikers to win it.

I realize Alvaro missed a few good chances against Bournemouth and Roma, but it’s normal. Even the best strikers eat up chances regularly — Suarez, Lewandowski etc eat thousands of chances before netting a goal but it’s normal for them, they’re full of confidence and they know they’re midfielders will deliver. The same can’t be said about us.

The thing we have to solve right now is providing service through the middle or the wings for our strikers otherwise they’ll continue to be poor, and unable to find form. I cant imagine how a player as good as Morata would perform if he had De Bruyne behind him.

He didn't look very happy tonight.

Seriously needs to buck his ideas up.

One kick and he seems to lose heart.

Good player, but as you say, needs to buck up his ideas and fast.

A hat-trick against Man Utd will do.

Well when there isn’t a player 10 yards of him he could lay the ball off to, it’s easy to get frustrated with the team. He doesn’t seem the type to show anger, more likely to exhibit frustration by hanging his head.

This was his best game for us in my opinion, minus the finishing but his CF play was amazing.

First touch of a lobbed ball, hold up, turn and run all fantastic, passing was good too. He dropped deep at times to get involved in the game as well.

If we had Lukaku today who mostly stays up top and only tries to score we would have suffered.

love everything this guy has brought to the club - I am sure RM are missing this guy - my one complaint is how he fails to use is left foot - he needs to work on that IMHO

The guy has everything but finishing. Absolutely lovely stuff today just a shame his finishing can be so poor but at least when he isn't on it, he tries to make himself available.

One of the best headers of the ball in the PL this season already

just spent a ridiculous amount of time watching that. You don't see many better headers than that these days.

Best header I’ve seen for ages! No keeper in the world is getting that. Class act.

Had a reputation in Italy and Spain for missing glorious chances and missing easy ones but I'm not complaining if he keeps this strike rate up. I think he's one of those strikers who needs less time to think and better on instinct. Really like his link up play. I consider him an upgrade to Costa in all departments except he's not as 'in your face', tenacious even, which was Costa's best quality.
