Jose Mourinho thread

Featured Replies

Jose's gone, move on ffs

this is a thread about Mourinho & his rather large legacy at this club- if you don't wish to participate then....don't. But don't have the temerity to tell posters that they should stop posting about that legacy & whether they be yayites or nayites concerning same. I mean what next? Should the mods delete the vintage section because the past 'is gone'? The answer is of course not. So behave.

despite you quoting the wrong poster, you also misquoted me. i said mourinho was the closest thing to a guarantee of success. there are no guarantees in football, but mourinho's record shows that if you back him, you are more likely to win trophies than by backing any other manager. I dont think that point is really up for debate given his record over the last 15 years

There is a reason I voted you most disliked user on TSH Coxy.

Your post just typifies the response I (and others) get in this particular thread.  You defend Mourinho so blindly and use so much information that points favorably to him and totally neglect everything else.  You also just presume I was/am not a fan of him.

What do you think I was saying in my original post?

I actually never misquoted anyone, I was pointing out he general trend of conversation in this thread that just goes over and over and over and there are a fair share of posters who give endless consideration to the Mourinho situation and zero consideration to the players/club while also talking about progressing competitive league and so on.

Jose certainly has left a legacy and will never be forgotten by Chelsea fans. For some (myself included) that legacy was diminished somewhat by the way it all turned so sour second time around. I still have great memories and thank him for all the good times but in the end, I wasn’t sorry to see him go.

I appreciate however that some fans are such huge admirers of Jose that it is hard for them to let go. I do worry that if he goes to Man Utd, when we play them next season, they will be secretly hoping he puts one over on us, such is their loyalty to The Special One. We may see more half / half scarfs at a Chelsea v Man Utd game than ever before!

Joking aside, there is of course the distinct possibility that he will go to Man Utd (where perhaps he always wanted to end up?) and turn them into a dominant force again. He may win loads, he may win nowt or he may win a few things over a couple of seasons and then move on again – who knows, we can only speculate? If we do play a Mourinho managed Utd next season, then needless to say, I hope we stuff them and it would make it all the more sweeter if we get a couple of contentious referring decisions in our favour - that would certainly add to the entertainment!

That's a sensible post!

I'm still very bitter about the way we handled his sacking but if he went to Manchester United I wouldn't begrudge him, but when it comes to playing them I would never barrack against us even if I'm still fuming over this decision because ultimately is no one is bigger than the club no matter how significant they may have been in the club's illustrious history.

I think there's a difference between wanting to see Jose succeed and expecting him to succeed so we have to be careful to not conflate the two and misrepresents the viewpoints of those who espouse a view that they believe Jose will succeed at his next club.

There may be indeed a few supporters out there who want him to succeed to prove a point to the club, but I suspect an overwhelming majority who hold positive sentiments of the man just believe going by his previous coaching record that he will succeed regardless of what we think and what we hope will transpire at his next club which is most likely Manchester United if media reports are to deemed to be accurate.

If his coaching career declines in the next few years then the decision to sack him may be somewhat vindicated, but I think sacking Jose is only the beginning of the problems that the club is experiencing at the moment and which has been brewing for a number of years now even though everything seems calm now after a hectic period in the early part of the season.

I just worry about the direction that we're heading in as a club.

  • How are we going to replace our remaining leaders?
  • Can we develop our youth well enough to transition them smoothly from the academy to the senior squad in the coming years?
  • Will the board alter it's expectations knowing full well that the landscape of English football is changing?
  • Will the next manager be afforded the necessary and appropriate time to develop his long-term vision of the club even if we experience issues on the field along the way?
  • Will the club be bold and overhaul this squad on the next manager's recommendation?
  • What role will Michael Emenalo and others higher up play in the club?
  • Will this impinge on our next manager's ability to develop his plan properly like it has on previous occasions?

The club made the right noises when they reappointed Mourinho and even when they provided him public backing in early October last year, but ultimately their actions later on didn't reflect these earlier goals that they ascertained and visualised.

That's why there's an element of alienation and resentment from some factions of the supporter base who feel that ultimately the club has given away the best there ever was and any alternative to replace him will not be as good despite their best efforts.

I think this says a lot about the difference between Guus and Jose.

Mikel: "people know what their jobs are & people are getting on with their jobs in a more relaxed way. And a way they can perform very well".

It helps when there's zero expectation on them. Jose is a high-pressure coach who was in a high-pressure job putting pressure on his players to perform.

Guus has no pressure, he's not looking for his next job, he's not going to get sacked and if we finish in mid-table with a decent cup run then he's probably done his job.

Not to be mean to Mikel either, but I think that is EXACTLY the type of environment he'd love to be in. This is a guy that people say is a good pro, never complains even when he's out of the team for long stretches. If people think I'm wrong about that then fine, but everything I've heard about Mikel suggests he's a laid back guy who doesn't like to put too much pressure on himself.

I imagine this might be his happiest 6 months in football ever.

Baffles me that people are still harping on about his reign (more the way it ended etc).

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to be a good decision. We are playing better, we are getting better results and the players are happier.

Very boring to talk about him now. He tarnished his original legacy with his behavior this season.

Lol. Because he isn't pressurized don't mean he's lax. Some are believers of a calmer work environment despite the pressure.

Yes, good point. Could apply to Guus also.

Doesn't mean anything. That's just the view of someone who wasn't playing to now being golden boy. Mikes wasn't exactly going to say anything negative.

Absolutely true, some people do believe in calm work environments but some like Jose, Pep and Fergie are very intense characters at the time.

Although maybe they wouldn't be without the burden of expectation.

Well, it's not that difficult for it to be a good decision, he left us in a mess after all.. somebody might point out about long term effect but is he the man for that? his past suggests a big no..

I'll never want Mourinho to get one over CFC, was distraught when he knocked us out of the CL despite being happy for his eventual success ...its just that my head tells me that if he goes to MUFC, he will get one or many over CFC, especially if things dont drastically improve....there will be no consolation of being happy for him as there was at Inter, but it doesnt make it a less logical conclusion that he will enjoy success atMUFC as much or more so as he has everywhere else, meaning atlest 1 league title within his first two seasons at a minimum because that is his proven track record regardless of how things ended here.

If and when he goes to the manc, it'll be interesting to see how long the love in for him lasts once he starts sniping and bitching at Chelsea, especially the fans, which he has done in the past when he was manager here.

What makes you think he will bitch at the fans? He has always been respectful towards them and knows they supported him during the worst phase in his career. The club didn't back him and I am sure he will have some snide comments for the club but I don't see the same animosity towards the fans.

Has Mourinho ever taken snipes at oppo fans ?

He takes shots at referees and oppo managers.

And someone will bring up him questioning the home support, alright, you got me. But he is usually very respectful to other teams fans.

Unless he changes his style/rhetoric he will assuredly make comments on everything related to Chelsea Football Club. Just accept it and prepare yourself for Jose making the club look like idiots. He's finally getting the job he's wanted for a long time and he gets to throw it in the faces of the people who sacked him twice

I agree but doubt it will be directed at the fans. If he does that, maybe it will finally be easier for me to let him go....

Surely those comments weren't made by saint Jose. A prayer of benediction in his revered name. Bless him

It was made at a time when everything was failing for us and crowd support always helps to boost the motivation when confidence is at an all time low.

How about you highlight the countless other times he applauded the Chelsea fans for backing him and the team?

I don't think there's many more things 'Chelsea supporterish' than to moan about the lack of noise at home. The only difference was he didn't just moan about tourists in the west stand.

So when it's going tits up he slags off the fans.

He's got to blame someone I suppose.
