August 18, 20169 yr It's probably worth analyzing the mental state of the player as well as his potential/ability. Would having the most over the top media in the world reporting on Chelsea's biggest ever transfer weigh the player down? It's certainly something to factor in
August 18, 20169 yr I know what you mean whenever we’ve broken the boundaries it has always resulted in failure. Robert fleck, Chris Sutton, Sheva, Torres.
August 18, 20169 yr Josè bigging up a signing is nothing new and just hot air to big up his new signing, I highly doubt Bailly was on his "radar" for years and that transfer was shut down from the board. Just not a plausible scenario
August 18, 20169 yr If we were to believe managers when they say they almost signed a player or had looked at them then Arsenal would have the top 20 best players ever playing for them.
August 18, 20169 yr I hope he rejects it, 60 million is far too much it makes this purchase a huge risk. 40 million was the right price and Koulibaly wants to go it just should be one of those cases of what can you do If Napoli are not willing to sell. Bound to be another CB out there.
August 18, 20169 yr buy him, the market is silly and as long as the TV money floods in, its going to remain that way for a while, this stupid potential fee is going to become the norm for the big clubs in the prem, CFC back 4 needs a CB & a LB and if Remy is off another striker is needed (Traore ???) http://www.transfermarkt.com/kalidou-koulibaly/profil/spieler/93128 Edited August 18, 20169 yr by General
August 18, 20169 yr £60 is too much and I actually doubt we are all of a sudden pay that much. I think no more than £53 is a fair price and if they don't accept then we should look elsewhere ( Maksikovic, Kone, Lindelof all good enough). I rather spend £60 on Ricardo Rodriguez and Maksimovic.

August 18, 20169 yr £60M is too much but £53M is a fair price? Dare I ask at what point in that £7M difference fair becomes too much?! As soon as it hits £53m and 2p? These figures have gone beyond and kind of reality to 99% of fans.Year on year they have gradually peaked from the first 1 million player when we all gasped, many saying it would ruin football. Next year we wont even blink at todays prices as the football transfer fees hit new stratospheres.
August 18, 20169 yr It's not my money, if the club has that money to splurge then let's get the deal done! It's more than I'd pay if I was in charge, but as I say, it ain't my money! Don't think I could afford his sock at that price.
August 18, 20169 yr Just buy him and get it done, my fear is this will drag on till the deadline day, and we will end up with some Nobody from France again. It's a ridiculous price to pay, but it's a crazy market out there. Even Palace got 32M to splash on a striker, and United signed a 21 year old defender with only 1 year experience for 30M. If Kalidou is the real deal, make him the most expensive defender in the league then! As for the next few years, JT/Cahill/Ivanovic will all leave Chelsea for one reason or another, so we could Kalidou, Zouma and Christensen compete for the defenders spots, look good!
August 19, 20169 yr £60M is too much but £53M is a fair price? Dare I ask at what point in that £7M difference fair becomes too much?! I think given that they are saying they don't want to sell and we are the ones pushing then if we make the £53mm is not neccesarily a fair price but a figure that should make us walkaway if not accepted. And considering PSG paid £50mm for David Luiz I would not be too devastated. Personally, I dont even think we will bid that amount let alone £60mm.

Don't think I could afford his sock at that price. Very true and to add - It is not like we woke up one day and our defense became old and slow - this was a long time coming that we chose to ignore until it bit is really hard. If we were smart, we would have bought 2 more CBs the year after we won the league ( I know we have our young guns but it seems like managers are more keen to play experienced players only ) - Jose Fonte, Van Dijk etc (who are rated pretty highly and are from SouthHampton - A club which seems to sell good players and find good players to replace them ) and while they will not make us world class - we will still be better than where we are right now.
August 19, 20169 yr Koulibaly is a good defender, I like him. But I won't be excited if we get him for more than 45m. Because there a lot of defenders better and versatile that we can get for less than that money. If Napoli want more than 45m we should look elsewhere just like we did with Naingollan. Nobody even know if he will easily adapt to the game here. Napoli are already aware he is the only defender we are desperate to sign and they know we have the money so they will want to drain us down. And is Christensen so bad that we are willing to overpay for a defender outside the EPL in a season we aren't competing in the Champions League? Edited August 19, 20169 yr by wallosh

Probably depends on what the board and Conte want to acheive this season. If its top 4 then the following group of defenders + a LB would be good enough (if we dont buy an LB, i dont think we get Top 4), but if we want a title run, then i feel a CB and an LB is a must.

But I fully agree: Christensen should just be taken on board. Why waste such large amounts of money? We don't need a wide squad.
August 19, 20169 yr Kaveh Solhekol ?@SkyKaveh 27m27 minutes ago Napoli closing in on £21m Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic. Surprised English clubs not trying harder to sign him. Described as new Vidic napoli got their guy, moment of truth
August 19, 20169 yr Delaurentiis is driving around with his Bentley smoking cigar thinking Chelsea is my bitch. If he gets Maksimovic for 21 and he sells Koulibaly for 60...maybe we should send Conte concluding the deal... He is very demanding man.

Described as new Vidic napoli got their guy, moment of truth It looks like it doesn't it? I have to say people moaning about fees do make me laugh. I'll admit I can understand people thinking its to much money but at the same time if we want him and he turns out to be good it's irrelevant how much he costs. People act like its their own money sometimes.

People act like its their own money sometimes. yes, the way i see it is, we have been very fortunate to have the best CB in PL history play for us for over 15 years and we didnt have to pay a penny for him, Koulibaly along with Zouma could dominate for us for the next 10 years, we also have Christensen to come back and thats 3 CBs with huge potential, the fact is the club can afford to spend that on Koulibaly so complaining about the fee makes no sense.
August 19, 20169 yr Matt law ( writer for the telegraph). Thinks Koulibaly will eventually get done. He is pretty reliable with Chelsea news. Let's see what happens, I think Koulibaly will turn out to be a very important player this year

August 19, 20169 yr napoli still thin in defence and they don't need the money, so what's to say maksimovic isn't just a addition instead of a replacement. They've already signed Lorenzo Tonelli, can't see them signing another CB and not getting rid of at least one tbf.
