I know - and yet I was not impressed with him.

What didn't impress you that all the critics, pundits and people awarding him young player of the tournament must have missed?

I think it's more likely to be a case of what they saw that I didn't. I saw the flash but I didn't see effectiveness. At least not to any out of the ordinary degree.

This reminds me of Euro 2008 after which Jose Bosingwa was voted into the team of the tournament. During the competition I had been posting (elsewhere) to say how badly I thought he was performing. We all watch the same matches. If what we 'see' varies that's down to perception or judgement. I would argue that what followed from Jose in a Chelsea shirt supported the impression I formed in that first major event after we signed him. He looked bad, and, for me, he was bad as a Chelsea player. Others might argue differently.

I had a similar situation after Germany 2006 when I posted that Sheva had nothing to offer Chelsea and should not be signed. I was ridiculed and offered reams of statistics when I said Torres was a poor player and should not be signed. I could give many other examples but there is no point. I recognise that there is absolutely no reason for anyone else to have any confidence in my opinion, but I do because, in the end, all any of us can do is call it as we see it. Bosingwa did not impress me and neither did Sanches when I watched him last summer.

Edit: Just to add, for fairness, that I have not watched the Bayern man since.

Fair enough, from what I saw he was a great physical specimen with a lot of skill, for an 18 year old, and a lot of potential for growth into a top notch box-to-box midfielder

Well he's off to Bayern. Gutted. Maybe Baker can play a similar role for us?

Baker set for another loan move this time a PL one sadly I hear...

I really rate baker. I think the only way for him to make it here, would be to have a fantastic season for someone like Swansea maybe, and get himself in the England squad. I think he is more than capable of doing that next season, especially when you consider Livermore is starting games. He will be almost guarenteed to catch the eye with his set piece ability, which hopefully get the media talking about him, which makes more difference than it should thb.

He still has to improve massively off the ball though, if he ends up at Swansea, maybe makelele can have some influence that will make him a more complete centre midfielder.

He's class. Will be absolutely fuming if he is the one to be loaned and we keep Loftus-Cheek around next season. He's by far the most accomplished midfield graduate we have. I like Chalobah but Baker is ahead of him also, will be an asset to any Premier League side and I fear he'll end up going on and being successful at a Liverpool or a Spurs who nurture young British talent...

I think rlc and baker will both go out on loan, and chalobah will be kept as he has already had 5 loans, and on the surface, it looks like he is more content with a squad role. I think we have 4 players that should be good enough for our 1st team squad in the next 2 seasons, Baker, Musonda, Abraham, and Christiensen. Christiensen will hopefully get his chance this season.

Who needs him. We're obviously too busy working on deals for Messi, Lewandowski, Veratti and Alaba. If those fail to materialize, there's always Djilobodji at the deadline.
