Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Makes you wonder why Wenger would field him in such an important match literally the day before he leaves.

Testimonial or last ditch attempt to make Alexis, Ozil and Ox stay. Imagine doing a good job vs Liverpool where everyone's spirit is lifted. Nice plot for a movie but we all know reality is not that kind.

Poor lad just wants to win something significant, he loves Chelsea deep down.

I thought he was a Pool supporter

Very close to becoming our player.

Not really sure about that, he has speed, crossing ability and has some physical ability. Is he a top level, really upgrade on Moses ( who has been excellent last season )?

Good signing, if true. Versatile, strong, athletic, fast, a good dribbler. Can cover a number of positions, can contribute to both attack and defence. English, only 24, knows the league well. I think he has stagnated a bit at Arsenal but is eager to make a step up. Conte will be happy about it, this is his kind of a player.

He has football pedegree he represented England at the euros at 19 (second youngest ever) and his dad mark chamberlain was an England international, so you would think he is very coachable, I feel Arsenal made him go stale.

Will he be used only  as cover or will we see him displace VM? The bizarre wages of 150k quoted surely suggest he will play.

Sky Sports reporting Chelsea have agreed fee. BBC to come.

Very good signing, gives depth and options. A couple of more and it has been a very good window. Rudiger, Bakayoko, Morata, Ox, _____ and ______!

How dare you forget Willy.

I was keen at first for the reasons above (we need depth, he'll finally have proper coaching, he's young, English and has the physical traits) but recently have been struggling to recall a commanding / stand out performance from him over the years. I don't make it a habit to watch Arsenal so it's possible I've missed it, but how much of his mediocrity is now baked in / learned?

I agree as i have done the same regarding him and Barkley. Potential doesn't exist any more, not when in excess of £100m is benig bandied around for 18 year olds. When have these players really demonstrated that they are worh tthe money being spoken about. AOC seems just a beefier version of Walcott, a bit of promise when they were young, took the solid option because they thought that Arsenal was a banker and in reality their mediocrity along with teammates like Ramsey, Wilshere, Welbeck allied to Wenger inherent arraogance is what has dragged Arsenal down. We shouldn't be adding mediocrity just because it is homegrown.

Love it! The Ox will blossom under Conte, bet on it. He's got all the physical and technical tools to be great.

Against certain teams i would like to see him in midfield with Bakayoko and Kante. LOTS of energy and legs in that midfield.

You are right! Back up keeper musical chairs / revolving door, "back up to starting keeper, ________". Schwarzer, Begovic, Caballero, TomCFC85......

:laugh2:

Seriously though, forgot about him, our first summer signing

The only thing I can save is a word document, I don't think so!

Yes, I agree. Drinkwater and Llorente would be a good strong finish.

When does Llorente return from broken arm? November? Anyone know?

I thought he would be available just after the break.

Well look there is clearly a change in strategy, and I think the club owes it to the fans to make that clear, but that's another topic, point is once we sell Diego we are about -65 million in net spend, just accounting for player fees.

Add in the 150 million prize money, ticked sales, sponsorship, merchandise, that covers wages and leaves a good chunk, in light of the new kid deal, new sleeve sponsor, we were 50 mil up while buying out our adidas contract and finishing 10th, which means there is at least 150 million to spend and break even for the year.

To ask our club to break even while we rebuild our team under a new manager who over performed isn't too much to ask I don't think.

In addition there is the argument that commercially spending on players increases prize money domestically and in Europe, plus success brings more merchandise sales allows us to negotiate better commercial deals,  so it is in fact benificial financially to buy players that being is on the pitch success.

of course I'm realistic and I know there are better business brains than mine at work in Chelsea, but as it it looks like bad business, could be there is a strategy based on variables we don't know, if so let the club share some insight or at least make public the clubs direction to the fans.

its also possible, of course, that an outsider can have a clearer over view and the board are making mistakes or that they plan to do what we are suggesting but their members like marina are underperforming.

Either way we have a bit of cash to spend.

I agree with everything you said, though I think if we sell costa we will only be 25 million in the Black.

Im more saying I think all evidence points to the board not wanting a net spend of ~30million+. Do I think they “should” spend more, yeah. I just don’t think they will.

Difference between him and Walcott though is he has pushed to move to Chelsea and likely taken a lower wage to do so.

A team where he knows he will have to fight to get in the first team and will become a better player.

Hopefully that speaks volumes for his attitude.

I may end up being wrong, but he seems like the kind of player Conte could improve massively, probably because he's kind of like Moses as in he's quick, strong, and direct (and young!).

Helps the quota but struggled to hold down a place at Arsenal so not holding my breath on this one, hope I am proved wrong of course.

dows this move explain his dire performance yesterday ?
