July 5, 20179 yr Okay, I know we're very early into the transfer window but recently I've started to hit boiling point over the club's transfer policy. Excuse my rant, I just need somewhere to vent. Who have we signed? Man City's Cabellero. Not a bad replacement for Begovic, especially considering he was free, only downside is that he's not homegrown. But is that a signing that excites you? Arsenal have got Lacazette, a man they've been chasing for what seems like ages. Man City have been doing quite well, Silva and that goalkeeper fellow seem like decent signings, no one can argue that they haven't splashed the cash. Don't get me started on Everton, who could be prove to great opponents next season. Man United have signed that Lindelof guy, someone they've been chasing for a while. Liverpool have got Salah (who I feel deserved more of a chance at Chelsea, but that's a topic for another day) All in all, most teams have strengthened. The only other one that I can see comparable to us is Spurs, who as far as I'm aware have signed no one. So if you're still reading, allow me to complain some more. What the hell is the board doing? I've heard we're close to selling Costa for a sum lower than £30 million which is an absolute travesty (I don't know what Conte was thinking) Lukaku (who I like as a person, not sure how well he'd do in the 3-4-3 formation) is apparently getting linked to United. Sandro (Who I hope does sign) seems to be slowly but surely getting away from us. Ake was sold, Chalobah has been linked with Watford, Loftus Cheek is up for loan, Solanke sold, do we even care about our academy? Or is it just a farm where other clubs can come and name a price for every promising lad that develops from it? Rudiger is apparently done, not a name that instills me with confidence, I suppose we could do with some experience but then again, what's happening with Zouma? And perhaps more importantly Christensen? Are they just going to be chucked away only to be bought back for 10x the price or a rival return get them. £40m for Matic sounds decent but should we really be selling to a rival like United? Bakayoko seems like it's supposed to be completed every day until it isn't. What the hell is going on? I can honestly see why Conte would be furious, while other teams are strengthening, we're happy to make half-hearted attempts at getting players we need. Look, I know this is only my opinion and I know we have a great squad as it is, we're champions after all but that does not mean we shouldn't be striving for excellence in the transfer window, this has been a recurring theme over the past few years and something needs to be done. I'd love to hear your thoughts... Edited July 6, 20179 yr by TomCFC85
July 6, 20179 yr Saturated market. Thanks to TV money & other such things, so many other clubs can now pay top dollar...so prices are inflated. So I suspect the board is just waiting, they've (probably) seen fairly massive bids turned down for the likes of Sandro and Bonucci and Lukaku and are wondering if they are worth it. Is Lukaku three times the player Batshuayi is? Is Sandro three times the player Alonso is? That explains the delay in terms of acquisitions but if we're letting the likes of Chalobah and Traore go for less than 10m, especially with the lack of home-grown talent, it does look proper weird.
July 6, 20179 yr What seems to be going on is you are applying doomsday scenario to every Chelsea related transfer and doing the exact opposite to every other club.
July 6, 20179 yr Perhaps a factor that may explain the 'slow window' - Conte isn't going to replace players so soon after winning the league before pre season has even begun - it sends the wrong message to the players who won the league, but yet may face being replaced. Further the squad 'depth' can't be added to until Conte ultimately knows where the likes of Chalobah, Musonda, Christensen want to be next season. As we've seen this week a few of the development squad have been signing contracts, over the next couple of weeks I'm sure we'll see some progress. Patience is a virtue as they say. It's amazing how many do this, slag of Chelsea for not making signings quickly then praise other clubs fir having imminent signings according to the media. It's so weird. Were 5 days into the transfer window and as usual people are losing there minds because guilleme ballbag said utd are signing everyone, or some other twatter said arsenal are signing everyone.
July 6, 20179 yr Im not concerned about Chelsea being slow in the transfer market, we took our time last year and got the correct players in, I trust in Conte to make the right decisions. What i am concerned about is our Youth Policy, people say that the likes of Ake, Chalobah etc aren't world class youngsters but honestly have they really had a chance? look at Lingard and Rashford, they needed a season of playing regularly WITH manchester united in order to be successful. We can't keep loaning players out and hoping they will turn into world beaters. If Chalobah is sold for as little as that, no wonder we get all this sh*t from other teams. This academy is miles above most others in the world bar a few but yet we can't transition.
July 6, 20179 yr It's just the natural turnover of players...if they're not good enough for our squad them sell them and bring the next group in...the players that leave have had an excellent footballing education and won many FA and European youth trophies so when they do move on they are almost guaranteed a good career elsewhere and we get a nice profit from it...Barca and Madrid have been doing this for years...

I'd love to hear your thoughts... Probably the longest first post ever in our history. Shame you couldn't be bothered to post anything at all when we won the league, and instead pick the 6th day of the transfer window to come on here and hit the panic button. Get a grip., and welcome aboard.
July 6, 20179 yr Cant understand all the effort that goes into ranting and whining, especially when it's something that's out of your control to begin with. We are the league champions, the board and club know what they are doing.
July 6, 20179 yr I just hope the board don't think cause we won the league, they can sit on their lard arses. Other than that 13 winning streak, the team has been all over the place and we need an injection of fresh blood or we run the chance of a repeat of the previous season.
July 6, 20179 yr No matter how well teams perform one season, every side still needs a re-jig in the close season and I am sure the coaching staff and the board are more than aware of that and have hopefully learnt their lessons from past mistakes. No point ranting and getting worried at what looks like our inactivity to date. I'm confident that Conte and the club are keeping their cards close to their chest and I'm pretty much ignoring every rumour about players XYZ until I see something official. That said, I hope we are not thinking of replacing Costa with Llorente, as that would be a serious downgrade!!
July 6, 20179 yr It's worth remembering that football basically doesn't matter at all in the scheme of things.
July 6, 20179 yr I'm starting to get itchy feet, but still time to get players in time for pre season, which I think will be important if we are looking to bring in 6/7 first team players. We have bought some excellent players in at youth level, it's looking more and more unlikely any of them will make it here though, which im okay with, but it would be nice to have a couple of youth players make here. I know the window has only been open for 5 days, but if we are being honest, the board have had since the end of the season to sort deals out. Bakayoko and Rudiger look likely to come in. Sandro is 50/50, and then after that it's anyone's guess now. It would have been nice if we made some early statement of intent signings, like we did with fabregas, but i guess we will do it the chelsea way, which is never a dull moment.

By the way, is no one allowed to voice their frustration at all? Is this just a safe space where everyone has to be optimistic just because we won the league? Everyone has opinions.

I lost you once you started praising other teams. City haven't strengthened where it matters, Salah is not a league winning signing etc etc. None of our rivals yet have a clear edge over us.

July 6, 20179 yr Honestly i was hoping we'd sign somebody by now, That's Lukaku officially signed for United now for 75 million, so we've missed out there. Having said that he's not worth all that anyway so maybe United just outbid us IDK. Not panicking yet, but i really want to see us confirming some transfers by the end of the week.

'Opinions have caused more trouble on this little earth than plagues and earthquakes' What the f**k are you doing celebrating a title win? When you could have a summer of misery like the rest of us on here. Welcome

Well anyway, hopefully I'll be using this place a lot, not sure I've made a good first impression though haha
July 6, 20179 yr I'm trying not to panic and just see what happens, but all the rumours are just becoming more worrying every day. Firstly this Dan Levene guy who supposedly knows what he's talking about says we';re jsut waiting for the Nike deal, then lo and behold, nohing happens. The Bakayoko deal seems to be stalling. Lukaku could be off elsewhere. We could be selling Chalobah and Christensen. Costa could be going for peanuts. There's still a long way to go, but it was only 2 years ago that the board rested on their laurels after a title win and look what happened then. At this rate we could end up going into the season with an even smaller squad than last year, or worse still, Conte could get tired of waiting and walk, there have been plenty of rumours about that as well. For f**k sake we just won the league, we should have nothing but positivity, but that just wouldn't be the Chelsea way, would it?
