December 23, 20178 yr He was our 4th or 5th choice, after the Ox, Danilo, Walker and god knows who else. He's nowhere near Chelsea standard.
December 23, 20178 yr Problem is, like we've seen with numerous players in the past, we're now stuck with him for a few years, because it's difficult to find buyers.
December 23, 20178 yr He's bang average we can all see that, wouldn't say he's slow though his biggest asset is probably his speed imo.

December 23, 20178 yr Easy target, absolutely horrible performance today but he's been decent enough when called upon previously.
December 23, 20178 yr He epitomizes our recent transfer policy. Another 'make do' signing, adds no quality to the squad, his only attribute being his pace and like most players of his ilk, no end product.
December 23, 20178 yr My main problem with this signing, was that he cost £20m. That is money we won't see again. We should've gotten someone on loan for a season, because we will no doubt be moving zappacosta on at a loss, and looking for someone else in the summer. You can also add meunier and rafinha to daveys list, so he was effectively a 6th choice signing.
December 23, 20178 yr Chelsea had no chance with Walker even if it was true. The Ox was left too late and didn't want to play wingback so that move wasn't on but its the Danilo move we really missed out on, it was good money for one of the best wingbacks out there. Chelsea board always love leaving it too late, wouldn't be the same otherwise.

He's not slow, but he can't make proper use of it because he can't move his body well, he's too stiff. He can run in a straight line but once he has to do a bit of twisting he losses all of his speed. Compare him to Moses and you will notice it even more. Moses is fast but can also twist and turn with pace, Zappacosta can't do that. Zappacosta has the same problem Lukaku has, he can run fast in a straight line, but ask him to turn and beat his man with pace and he won't be able to do it. It's beyond Zappacosta's physical capabilities to play in our formation at our level.
December 24, 20178 yr This is what happens when we chase for a panic buy, he seems like a lovely guy and he is hard worker, but he is not that quality we were looking for. I'm seriously getting frustrated with the way we use our youth quality, we've one of the best academies in the world but the way we're working with them is very poor. Is there anything Aina or Sterling can't do that Zappacosta does?

This is why clubs have a director of football, to try and stop managers making sh*te signings like this.

Danilo was a player signed to make the squad and better, has he done that of course he has.

Is there anything Aina or Sterling can't do that Zappacosta does? The only thing he does that our academy products don't is have a large price tag. What are Baka and Drinkwater doing this season that is worth £40m more than what RLC is doing? What is Willian and Pedro doing more than what a youth player could do? Players with price tags get played more and that'll always be the case until we give a manager time and patience or have a manager renowned for giving youth a chance.
December 24, 20178 yr We were hoping lightning would strike twice, with a wingback panic buy. Unlike Alonso, he hasn't really shown he's up to it. I hope he gets there eventually, but it doesn't look too likely.

December 24, 20178 yr He's fine. Didn't do well yesterday but probably down to being over eager. Moses had done all he could by the time he went off and it was worth a throw of the dice.
December 25, 20178 yr Author He's a warm body, that is literally it. I think the inital plan would have been to buy some one that would serve as competion for Moses but that didn't work out, Plan B was clearly to buy some one who could at least fill in and that's what he does... he fills the role of squad filler.

Which an academy player could have done and saved ourselves £25M.

I personally have always though Ola could have easily played back of to Moses this season but he is probably better of getting games under his belt. Played 22 games this season already, wouldn't get that at Chelsea

I'm not saying Aina is brilliant or even ready for us but i don't see why he couldn't have offered as much as Zappacosta has at this point.
