Callum Hudson-Odoi

Has to play Sunday, the whole 90 mins, up against TAA he could have some joy, CHO providing the pace and TAA the space, Werner on the end of a brace of CHO assists. Yet to officially announce himself on the top table, this could be his chance to get going, fingers crossed for the teenager.

Except Alphonso Davies took his chance and cemented his starting spot at Bayern. CHO so far hasn't. Now, you may point to his injuries or lack of playing time but truth of the matter is, you have to earn it, no one's entitled to a starting place in a top club, you have to prove yourself in every training session and every match. People blamed Sarri for ignoring the lad, but surely Lampard can't be accused for not giving young players opportunities?

And who exactly are Bayern going to bench to make room for the mighty CHO? You have got to be joking.

They were interested in him back in 2018-19 as a youngster with great potential and due to his contract situation at the time they were hoping to get him cheap. Then he got injured, they moved on and he signed a new long term contract. Why would the best club side in the world with the best set of wide players still be after CHO at this point in time? I think it's unlikely.

Watched the 1st Bundesliga game; Bayern v Schalke last night, they were 4-0 up at the 47th min. They took off Muller, Sane & Gnabry, brought on Zirkzee, Cuisance & Musiala. Musiala is the 17yr old Chelsea youth player they signed last season, came on for 18mins & grabbed a goal.

If they keep winning games by 3-0 at half time which they could possibly do with the quality they have, Musiala come the end of the season might rack up more mins, and be further along in his development than CHO.

No Ziyech or Pulisic available for the Liverpool game, a team that plays a high defensive line.

You could see the argument for not starting him against Brighton, a team that's going to sit deep against Chelsea, but if he doesn't start against Liverpool you've got to start wondering if Lampard just doesn't fancy him that much.

Or he's waiting for Chilwell to return so Callum can have some proper back up down the left ?

As good as they are, they're not going to be wnning all their games by huge margins with time to spare. And what do you suggest, CHO moving to Bayern to compete with 17-year old prospects for some 15 minute cameos at the end of already won matches? I thought your whole point was that he will break into their first team like Alphonso Davies did?

My view is, if he's struggling to get into the first eleven with us, he's got no chance in hell to do it Munich. And they have plenty of wide players performing very well, so why spending money on CHO, given his recent form, injury history and a new long term contract? I'm not saying it's impossible, I just think it's unrealistic.  He needs to start putting out top quality showings on a regular basis for top clubs to take notice.

I agree but I don't think he will.

He's suspect defensively and Lampard will not take that chance against Liverpool of all teams.

Unfortunately i am not sure Lampard rates him so highly. He seems to be far down the pecking order and it's not a great sign for him when RLC and Mount get chances on the wing before Callum does.

With both Pulisic and Ziyech out, CHO has to be able to force himself onto the starting 11 and perform. This is a golden opportunity for him, if he's unable to do that; I seriously doubt his future with Chelsea.

Its a good point, he's not great in defence and we've seen him playing in front of Alonso doesn't work well for us so it could be that Frank wants defensive stability behind him.

Doesn't he predominantly play on the right for us? Perhaps a few times on the left under Sarri? My memory isn't great.

With Pulisic missing he won't ld be expected to fill in on the left, he played there a few times last season.

like to see him succeed but he just hasn't done enough overall for me, tends to stroll around too much when we haven't got possession and seems to have lost his edge with a one on one.

He's still very young. Lots of learning left to do. Take a look at Gnabry as a player panned at a young age who has emerged as a star.

I do agree that the workrate issue will be one he needs to work on. I think he's in for a shock when he sees Ziyech putting in a pressing shift. Hopefully that inspires him.

If he plays today I'd absolutely expect him to play on the right. He's played there more frequently and effectively and besides that, our other available "wingers" tonight are Mount, Werner and Havertz and only the latter would be deployed on the right

Right is his best position by far as well. He tries to shoot too much when playing on the left. Right side means he has more variety rather than endlessly trying to come inside and shoot.

I don't think he'll start tonight btw. We'll go for hard work off the ball.

Seeing whats going on with Alli at Spurs you have to wonder if we dont have the same kind of situation here with Callum. Was very good for a short period of time at a young age, gets paid and all of the sudden things are not working for them, both managers call them out asking for more focus and dedication in trainning.

Needs to be better when he gets his chances. Played well against some Europa league teams and lesser teams in the league cup, but I've never seen him do anything in the PL.

With what mins though? 10-15mins here and there, that is very harsh.

At the beginning of last season when he started game, he delivered. Seems to have been frozen out, and now feeding on scraps.

Difference is Alli has been given countless opportunities. You can judge CHO until he gets a run of games.

Lampard should give him a chance. It's ridiculous that even when both of our two wingers are injured that he doesn't play.

Lampard is not using Havertz in the best way and Mount is a hard worker but he simply isn't a winger... If CHO doesn't get a chance now when does he get to start a game? In the FA Cup?

You couldn't blame him if he wants out. Think he might be a surprise exit late this window (on loan probably ) and we bring in Benrahma or someone like that.

Mount is never a winger yet he's ahead of CHO in the pecking order. That got to hurt his confidence quite a bit. I understand the move from Lampards perspective because of work-rate but i don't think Hudson Odoi understands it and I can't really blame him.

Obviously made even worse by the fact that he didn't even get on the pitch today.

I would ask to be transfer listed & maybe lure Bayern back to the table, nothing will change in the long term while Frank is here.

Crazy thing is we had no width and Liverpool fullbacks had acres of space behind them to be exploited, Werner was the only one trying to run the channels.

You don't blame him for not understanding he needs to up his workrate to get playing time or for not working hard enough to convince the manager he deserves to play?

If he doesn't understand it after his manager publicly questioned his effort in training then he's either an idiot or being wilfully ignorant.

If he can't get in that 11, well then he should leave.  We have a manager that insists on play central midfielders as wingers, in games calling out for pace and the pitch to be stretched wide.

He's got no chance of starting when Ziyech and Pulisic are back,  Actually feel for him, and if he can develop into the talent we believe he has, then yes, he probably should look to leave.  Frank is not the right manager to develop Odoi.
