That evokes an image of a plodding talentless water carrier, but CHO - or Mount for that matter - isn't that Putting your head down and give your all, use your talent, be better than someone else, that's what is needed to start a match. Fair play Val, but while disagreeing with his remarks re; Mount - Lampards comments did come off a bit ‘be a bit of a workhorse’ and you’ll play which I don’t particularly like. Why not tie Willian down for the full 3 years if we want workhorse wingers. It’ll be interesting to see if Ziyech is doing lung bursting 60 yard runs back to defend our penalty box. the comparison to Pulisic is wide of the mark as I said before. We had 3 wingers fit and he was the fourth. Callum is the sole fit winger we have and fair enough playing Mount out wide. I actually don’t think he’s too bad out there but Havertz is the real insult. He’s been average in the two games playing there so far so I could understand Callum being upset about that because if he put in two performances like that - this forum would be clamouring for him to be dropped (I know the circumstances are different with Havertz just joining). I’m just not convinced this tough love line Frank is taking will work with him, but he deals with him everyday so we just have to hope he knows what he’s doing. Losing a talent like CHO who is one of our own would be worse than Salah & KDB combined when he realises his potential.
September 23, 20205 yr If CHO is training badly and starts to sulk now for not playing let him leave.
September 23, 20205 yr Sometimes in management you have a few highly talented people who you need to treat a bit differently to get the best out of them, Hazard wasn't the best trainer for example, yet you wouldn't keep him on the bench for that. We aren't exactly brimming with fit players that actually have something about them that can hurt opponents ... and that's usually either extreme skill or pace. With Ziyech or Pulisic out, CHO really ought to be starting. We've seen enough quality in goals/assists in his fledgling career to see that he's got something we sorely need. After Frank subbed Havertz at half time against Liverpool, where was our goal threat ? Probably the only player Liverpool were worried about after that was Werner, who hasn't even scored for us yet LOL. Players that can hurt opponents (and good opponents at that) should really be starting ...

If he went out and grabbed a game by the horns in whatever cameo he is given he forces his way into the plans, its what countless other youth players have done over the years. How does that happen in 15mins? What youth player have ever forced their way into the 1st team based on 10-15 cameos?
September 23, 20205 yr 11 hours ago, SFL82 said: He has has starts as well and he has had moments, I didn’t say he sulks but he isn’t doing what Pulisic for example, who sat on the bench for 2 month does when he comes on, He drives at players and changes the game. If you have a dynamic winger you want him to impact games he hasn’t effected the games in the way you would want especially on 130k a week they have been luke warm performances. You negotiate the big contracts you have to play your way into the team and make the difference, if he was impressing the manager in training he would not be on the bench, we have in frank a manager who plays you no matter age or status if you show him you’re ready. I’m not saying give up on him or sell him but I think a loan would be ideal if he isn’t happy to sit on the bench which seems to be the case, he needs a bit more power in his runs and a bit more aggression to his game, his talent is clear, and a loan may give him that. When did Pulisic ever sit on the bench for 2mths? Isn’t this a false narrative? He came off the bench v Utd in Lamps 1st game, started the Super Cup game v Liverpool & the PL game v Leicester. He was only dropped after the poor showing v Sheff Utd. As for Pulisic coming off the bench and impacting games which fans keep mentioning, I assume this is the 5-3 loss v Liverpool. What gets lost in this narrative is we were losing this game 3-1 at half-time, he hooked Mason (who was having a sh*t show on the wings) & Willian, Pulisic & CHO were both brought off the bench. Pulisic grabs a goal & an assist, and CHO also picked up an assist. Next game he rewards Mount’s poor game v Liverpool with a start as a winger again; fair point he grabbed a goal & an assist. Now let’s put the “impact games as winger” under the microscope. Wingers & Forwards will always be judged by their goals & assists, that is their currency. If you are winning games but your wingers/forwards aren’t scoring/assisting, there will be little complaints. Fans don’t have a problem with Mount as a player, it is playing him in a role where he is contributing nothing offensively. All I have heard the last 2 games have been “he was pressing Liverpool players”, “he was helping Alonso out with Lamptey”. Why isn’t his impact being brought into question if CHO a winger is meant to come of the bench and in 10-15mins impact a game. A comparison/contrast with Foden who is being played on the wings instead of centrally is apt. Mahrez will have little or no complaints because in those 8 PL games Foden has started on the wings, they have won all & Foden has scored 5 goals & had 1 assist. That is impacting a game. You contrast that with Mount who has 1 goal and 1 assist v Wolves in 4 starts as a winger, we have won 2 & lost 2. With Lamps saying Pulisic & Ziyech might not be ready for the weekend, I fully expect to see Mount on the wings again. I also don’t expect to hear anything about his “impact as a winger”, but if we start dropping points it becomes a problem. Sidenote: A loan won’t most likely change his circumstances in the future. We all want Lamps to be a success, and I can’t see his lot changing while he is here. Smart move will be at minimum looking for a loan with an obligation to buy from a midtable club where he will be playing regularly, and taking a huge pay cut.

Well he didn`t miss out on too many games, maybe that`s because he took to heart what Frank was saying about his training, doubled his efforts and impressed enough to get game time, then showed just how good he is and became pretty much the first name on the team. Hopefully Callum does the same.

September 23, 20205 yr Frank was absolutely spot on telling media how it is. CHO needs to take responsibility to his own hands. If he wants to play he needs to impress Frank, as do every other player. I have no idea why Mount is dragged into this. He is constantly one of our best performers in games.
September 23, 20205 yr People were blaming Sarri for being too conservative and not using CHO. Now it's Lampard who played more youngsters in one season than all Chelsea managers over the last two decades put together and yet he somehow has doubts about the lad. Maybe, just maybe, there are some vallid reasons why he isn't playing even when no other winger is available?
September 23, 20205 yr Yup, I think if he doesn’t play tonight then we’ll know what’s going to happen.

CHO was actually a good trainer under Sarri by all accounts. He played him because he proved in his fits and starts he was ready. He took time over it because that's what you should do with an 18 year old. Lampard has consistently said that CHO isn't training hard. If he isn't training hard he doesn't start. There is no other option here. You can't give players short cuts - especially players who when they do get played they don't actually deliver. His career is at a crossroads and he could be one of the MANY players who do not make it who look like world beaters at 16/17/18. Or he could knuckle down, prove himself to his boss and force his way into the team.

My personal "worry" is that CHO is the only real natural winger right now and yet Lampard is still not playing him. He can't be that bad in training, unless Lampard wants him to play like Mount plays on the wing. I wouldn't like it if we were to simply play Mount on the wing as soon as we are missing Pulisic or Ziyech, sure Havertz can try to be a winger but he's still adapting and Lampard isn't using him in the best way. If he doesn't get a chance this season, he has no future here IMO because we have only 3 natural wingers and this should be a breakout season for CHO.

September 23, 20205 yr We should have loaned him out somewhere in previous seasons, rather than having him sit around on the bench doing very little.

Does he get more game time at Bayern compared to here? He is up against Gnabry and Sane compared to Pulisic & Ziyech, I personally think he will break into the team at some point this season if he stays. I think Bayern are after the loan so they can get in his ear about his permanent move to Germany.

Moving there would be a bigger risk for him but if Lampard keeps playing Mount on the wing and Havertz as a winger only, it's over for CHO here.

He should go to a club that might actually play him and then pay money for him next summer. If Frank thinks he aint good enough for Chelsea, he definitely isn't going to be good enough for Bayern.

I know what you are going for here and I don't know the metric but he impresses the manager and that should be enough. I think Frank knows what he gets when he plays Mount. You can't say that about anyone else apart from Azpi. I don't question Frank's choosing here. He subbed off Mount immediately after making crucial mistake against Sheffield last season.
September 23, 20205 yr I’m not sure how close he is to the club but I do think he’s a Chelsea fan as he focuses on us quite a bit and he may have even mentioned it before. But it appears from his tweet and Simon’s that it’s not to do with his work in training or in games but something in his personal life?
September 23, 20205 yr He doesn’t want to leave and lampard rates him That’s enough. I hope he plays and plays well. We need him.
September 23, 20205 yr Well according to this he starts tonight, and i would like to believe if this is what frank said, i think this sounds like a final warning. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8762175/Frank-Lampard-challenges-Callum-Hudson-Odoi-flourish-starting-berth-against-Barnsley.html

September 23, 20205 yr Had a purple patch during Sarri's reign since then I think that injury has impacted him mentally. I really dont see him coming back. Moving on maybe the only way he removes that block.
