Alvaro Morata

Featured Replies

Abysmal. f**king needs to sort himself out. Might as well not have been on the pitch. Could and should have put the game to rest.

Would not mind him on the bench for the rest of the season.

Hell, if there was even a medicom of meritocracy in the club, thats exactly where he will find himself. Simply not good enough to lead the line.

This guy is basically Torres Mk II.

If you play for Chelsea, especially as a striker, you need to stop falling over and actually compete. There is nothing worse than someone not playing to the whistle, or holding their head from the slightest connection with other players.

It is horrible to watch as a fan someone looking so pathetic. Personally I'd start with Giroud, as he'll bring more out of our attacking players. Morata has a couple of moments that make you think there is a decent player in there some where, then he just continues to be a wet sponge again.

Before our goal, I like that Willian looked up, saw Morata in a very good position, then thought 'Hmm... maybe not' and took the shot on himself.

Yup, noticed that too. Thought it was the perfect decision.

I feel his game depends a lot on his confidence. When he was scoring for fun in the first few games his link up with Hazard his runs were all excellent. In the last few games he played he been poor in every aspect.

It's too easy for defenders, he only takes up certain areas of the pitch, all down to his reliance on his right foot, which determines where he can shoot from. Trouble is that right foot has only scored against two team in the English league, WBA and Stoke (Stoke had a depleted team, with only one recognised CB on the pitch).

Look at his heatmap against Manyoo, completely anonymous in the right side of the area, he always goes left, always, defenders know this, he's so predictable.

Judging by that heatmap it seems he was completely anonymous everywhere except for kickoff.

He needs to be fed protein shakes and be locked in the gym for a considerable amount of time if he is to have a future here. Right now he's being bullied by every single CB in the league.

Another thing, Hazard gets pushed out of position when Alvaro plays. Notice where Hazard popped up for the goal, out on the right,

To be fair to him that yellow card was bullsh*t.

Didn't see the game so I'll take your word for it.

Was more an observation that he's currently better at getting bookings than he is goals.

We won't get anything out of him this year... reminds me a bit of Dzeko's first season in ManCity... but season 2 could/should be much better... he is not a complete sh*t... just sh*tty this season I hope!

In his pre-match column for the Sunday Times, Souness admitted he would rather have Romelu Lukaku leading the line for his team than Morata.

And he took a similar stance in his post-match analysis, criticising the Spaniard's performance in comparison to Lukaku's.

"I think he's a near-miss man," he said.

"Can they give him another year to settle? Can big teams wait that long?

"His general play wasn't good enough. You swap those centre-forwards around today and Chelsea win the game."

Sad but probably true on the day.

But i still wouldn't want Lukaku, both him and Morata are massively over priced.

A good player but a striker needs a bit of luck and he's not getting it. His goal was well taken and the shot against the bar was a cracker. On another day he would have scored two.

difficult to get luck when 89 minutes are spent lying down or moaning.

Morata touch and link up play is fantastic though. Love watching him do this and linking it up. If he can just man up and embrace the physical side of the game he will be class.

Feels like a big learning curve for him in every way this season.

We need to remember he's young, it's his first experience playing in such a physical league and it's the first time in his career he's the main man at a club. Everything that frustrated me with Morata yesterday, frustrated me with Drogba in his first season (the whole going down over a nudge in the back) and look how that turned out. Personally I won't be writing the lad off until mid way next season if nothing changes by then. Hopefully a season to get used to the league, the pressure and what's expected of him and we may see a different player come next season.

Uncanny for me how much he reminds me of Torres. I didn't lose patience with Torres but I think I've lost it with already with Morata. Would much rather have Giroud starting.

Probably because, with torres it was a matter of quick sand. For all his poor performances, the guy kept on going ang trying to get out of the whole situation. But, it was probably a case of injuries and too much pressure taking its course on him.

With Morata, it looks as if he is barely even trying. Cant touch the ball without falling over it. Has no presence up front. Just seems like being a man down. I would definitely take giroud over him.

You would hope Morata would learn a lot from Giroud , Giroud clearly needs to take him to one side and explain what is a foul in Spain is not a foul over here .

Stop looking at the Ref for protection as you are going to get no help from them at all , looks like the UK ref's have his card marked as a faker and he won't get anything from any of them unless he is rugby tackled .  Up to him to man up and start bullying a few defenders then the tide may turn

Sid Lowe writing in The Guardian about Diego Costa's performance this weekend:

"Diego Costa shot up the left, bundled Gabriel Mercado to the floor, pushed Clement Lenglet into Éver Banega and then bulldozed into the back of the Frenchman, forearm first, sending him crashing to the ground, and tumbled on top of him with a thud. He got up, crashed into Lenglet for a third time and flew backwards, holding his face, which hadn’t been hit, went to ground again and got up again, wearing a menacing look, and paced at his “aggressor”, looking for more. He was held back by Gabi, handed a yellow card by Juan Martínez Munuera, protested “Who, me?”, begged a bit and asked why, like he didn’t know. He walked away momentarily, a “don’t care” that didn’t last long – just long enough to lure them into his trap – and he was off, hunting down Banega, who didn’t see the stampede coming.

In the blink of an eye, Costa had been and gone and so had the game, a hurricane tearing though Sevilla, its impact likely to be lasting. Through Banega and out the other side with the ball, he smashed it past Sergio Rico, spinning to the ground as he struck it, got up, ran to the stands wild-eyed and growling, skidded on his knees and roared, really roared. The pack raced over, sharing the spoils; the attack had been as ferocious as it was fast. When eventually they stood, he emerged from the middle, got up for the fourth time and, gently now, crossed himself. Then he pointed to the name on his shirt, in case anyone wondered. Diego Costa, distilled: it all happened in 96 seconds."

I can't be alone in wishing we still had that fire and fury up front instead of watching this for 90 minutes:
