Pique is a great football player, but he's an average defender. He works for barcelona because they have 65-70% possession in every game. Put him in a team that doesnt control possession and he's another David Luiz. There are at least 20-30 better centre backs than pique currently playing. Here's a few just off the top of my head: Ramos, Hummels, Boateng, Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli, Varane, Manolas, Sokratis, Azpilicueta, Kompany

Exactly my point, @Total-Football doesn't seem to know that being a defender actually involves being able to defend.

Its a useful trait for a defender to be able to defend, but obviously being able to score goals is much much more important........just like its nice having a striker who scores goals, but its better to have one who can defend really really well.....

So Delph is the best left back now then also?

Actually I do think Delph is doing well at left back and city are a better team when he plays there.

I still don't believe he will offer too much compare with the CBs we got. He could pass, so could Luiz and Christensen.  Is he a strong tackler or Header, or a yard faster than Chrstensen/Luiz/Zouma? Let's hope we have done our scouting, not just buying Italians is this season's fashion trend.

It's like Italian managers have never watched football outside Serie A.

I'm not sure what he really adds for us. Didn't make it at Juve even ahead of Benatia who is error prone to say the least.

If we're after a young Italian defender Romagnoli is the guy.

It's a lot of money to spend on just a Zappacosta type singing (rotation) so I am feeling this must be a longer term view.

Luiz is 30/31 and Cahill is 32 so those guys might be off soon and we will have the likes of Andres, Dave, Rudiger and now Rugani may be our mainstays.

Zouma I reckon will be sold as sadly since his injury he has never really kicked on.

You missed the opportunity to ask yourself the most important question, mate - does he make stupid mistakes repeatedly, in the most important moments, against the strongest opponents, on the biggest occasions? Because if he doesn't, that puts him over Christensen immediately. this guy ruined the season for a month and this is not a thing you can afford in a club striving or at least pretending to win trophies.

The guy is 22 and one of our own. Give it a rest.

Never liked attitude like this. What the feck does that mean "of our own"? that he didn't make these mistakes? For like a month he'd been finding a way to screw the things up in unbelievable various of ways and we what? Have to have our heads in the sands.

Christensen put a tremendous effort last year, but being so consistently bad for such a big amount of time is an issue we better start looking at.

Being disrespectful to other players and delusional to "our own" is a thing that annoys me. Rugani has been in Juventus for like 3 years, the second best or even the best defense in Europe for this period. Christensen's got in his CV one year of that level with a big failure in it. You better believe me when I say I'm not cool with the conclusion that Andreas is better than Rugani and we don't need him.

Rugani has been a bit part player at Juventus to say the very least, hes barely started any important games for them, his best season was with Empoli and Sarri but to re-write history to paint Christensen as some blundering clusterf**k waiting to happen and Rugani as the new Baresi takes some doing, congrats.

You've complained about the delusion about Christensens ability and went right the other way and made Rugani out to be integral to Juves success.

Now, i want Rugani because it means Cahill and Luiz are less likely to play and thats a big plus for me.

I think Sarri is looking for a Center Back who is comfortable with the ball. Luiz is that very much. Cahill not so much. Christensen is.

Luiz is also error prone, hopefully this is where Rugani is better.

We just gonna ignore how much better the team looked for months when Christensen first came into the team? A few errors and everyone forgets that.

He made zero errors under Conte when we won the Prem.

He almost got that red against Man City on Aguero at the beginning of the game. If I’m not mistaken he made a bad pass back to goal.

If we get Rugani it will be amazing, the kid is like a new Nesta in the making, I can't believe Juve would sell him!

The new to get rid of some big earners because of Ronaldo’s wages.

Sigh, the fact that 'one of our own' doesn't resonate with you at all says enough.

We've struggled for a decade and a half  to have a young player come through our academy into our first team. Christensen has broken 15 years of barriers to get to where he is. He had some rough games, when the team also struggled, but his season when considered in context, as a 22 year old, in his first year in the Premier League, was a big stride forward for him and us.

The kind of attitude you're expressing, where we discard him after a couple of mistakes, is exactly why we have struggled so much to have young players come in. This isn't just a question of an individual it is about the culture of our club.

Those comments aside, I think you're overplaying the role of Rugani in the Juve back three. He's very much a backup/rotation player there, who hasn't really taken the next step to claim a first team place from an ageing Chiellini, Barzagli or Benatia. He didn't play in any of the CL knockout games, or the latter stages of the Coppa Italia or in their big head to head clash against Napoli.

Now of course he is only 23 and has plenty of time to grow himself. But as for paying 50m euros for him? I'm unconvinced.

He played 22 games in Serie A and 2 in Europe last season, for such a young player that is great since Chiellini and Benatia are still at the top of their game, I think at least 4 final games of the Serie A season he was the starter and Juve won 3/4 the only game not won was a draw with Roma.
Since Cahill is not capable of playing 20 games any more this is a great move if we get him, together with Christensen we can build one of the best centre back duos in the league for years to come, David Luiz has been inconsistant too much.

Potentially we might be able to build a partnership. Although my read is that they have very similar styles so may not be very complementary.

I've said earlier than if we're shopping in Italy for a young CB. Romagnoli is the guy. Milan are in all sort of financial troubles, we should be taking advantage.
