January 31, 20206 yr Lampard said some very nice things about Giroud in the presser. I’m not Giroud‘s biggest fan but I think he’s been under-used a bit this season. I wonder if this means he’s back in from the cold.

January 31, 20206 yr It's a wierd one with Giroud because I dont really rate him and he is slow but as an impact sub surely he offers more than Batman. He has good close control, heading and is a nuisance and when needing a goal for the final 20mins it seems more crosses are going in and offers something different to anyone else.
February 1, 20206 yr Given Frank has put Giroud in the stands and does not want to use him it boggles the mind why we did not just let him leave? Heck I even get keeping Pedro cause even he got a game at hull. Giroud did not even make the bench there.

Selling him and promoting another youth player would be good but we probably don't have any more gems to uncover.

Supposedly Tammy is carrying an injury now but we are asking him to play through the pain tomorrow. Doesn't suggest there is much confidence innthe other options.

Far as youth options go I would have far more optimism in Broja and Anjorin than Batman or Giroud.
February 1, 20206 yr It seems Lampards game is based on fast running and pressing and I can see why he feels like Giroud is not going to be a good fit for this style. But having said that, we are doing an absolute disservice to Giroud and our bank by not letting him go to a team where he can get a chance to play. This is bad - a huge disconnect in the vision between the coach and the board which is ending up affecting the player.

Although I suspect today was more that he had a distracted week and wasn't perhaps in the headspace. I still suspect we'll wind back the high pressing. We simply can't rely on Tammy and Mount running their guts out by themselves for the next four months. At that stage Giroud comes back into the equation.

From what i understand this is similar to his philosophy in his earlier coaching stint. We really should have let Giroud go to a Inter or any of the other clubs in a different league. February 18, 20206 yr That header last night was majestic. Looking at the clock, part of me hoped we would see the same fightback he sparked when 2-0 down at Southampton. Alas, it was not to be. Hopefully he'll start against spurs. Just the type of player who will disrupt their defence.
February 19, 20206 yr I get the feeling that we'll start Giroud against Spurs and everyone will hate him again and say we need to start with Michy instead.

Can't see Giroud playing the full 90 more like 70 so for me it should work yet as soon as Tammy is fit I see Frank relegating Giroud to the bench.
February 19, 20206 yr Start with Giroud then bring Bats later in the game, simple (if Tammy isn't fit). I still think a 3-5-2 would benefit us, using Alonso and James as wingbacks, Giroud will eat their crosses for lunch. Edited February 19, 20206 yr by Malcolm9

No no no, start Giroud and bring on Tammy or Broja or CHO or the tea lady, anyone but Batman.

February 22, 20206 yr Even more glad he didn't leave in January now - an important goal in a win vs spuds means he has already made it worthwhile staying the rest of the season!
