Christian Pulisic - Official

I generally think it's because he doesn't take himself seriously. Oh hey guys here's a video of me pulling of a random football trick....but oh wait look I feel into the water and wiped out.

I think he thought people would find it funny since that's what he and his family saw it as. Harmless fun, I'm sure the fish was fine also

There was another time Pulisic tried a trick and fell on his rear and he still posted it to the internet.  Certainly doesn't take himself too seriously or he'd only post the video's of his successful tricks.

Does the fact we seem willing to sell Marcos and Emerson without any fullback links suggest that putting him at wingback vs Arsenal wasn't a one off?

Because if we sign Lukaku i simply can't see how else he would get any substantial minutes.

I really hope to see Pulisic hit the gym. Rarely have I seen a man so lightweight. Even Ziyech looks like he has a frame compared to Pulisic.

What Pulisic needs is to calm his play down a bit. He hasn't found a rhythm playing in the Prem. He thinks he needs to be in a hypermode every second. Hazard was brilliant in that for us. He controlled the rhythm brilliantly with the ball. Pulisic makes wrong runs and the falls down trying to correct them. Just cool down and find a rhythm.

Same with Werner. He could beat any backline with his pace but he decides to go offside almost without fail. Tuchel must be so frustrated with that.

This would be a very interesting and critical year for him. He already got 2 years under his belt, can't get any more passes on his performances. Have to stay healthy and produce.

Would be a massive waste of his attacking threat. Same goes for CHO at wingback really.

Thank you! Real waste. Also looks awkward playing in the 2 behind the frontman in a 3-4-3.

While I don't nesseserily disagree I just can't see where else he gets significant minutes if we sign Lukaku.

Whether people like it or not Werner and Mount are crucial to Tuchel's system, Kai is the golden boy and Rom isn't coming here to warm the bench, those four between them will be hogging the minutes in the front three.

Even without Lukaku it is hard to see CHO and Pulisic starting regularly for now unless players are out injured, or TT changes his system. We will most likely be playing 5 at the back most games (presumably Reece and Chilwell as first choice wing backs). 2 midfielders from Kante/Jorginho/Kovacic and then the front 3 that you mentioned (Havertz/Mount/Werner).

If Lukaku joins I would think Werner is most at risk from that front 3 but there may be a degree of rotation involved.

Either way unless we move to 4 at the back then Wing-back cover would seem to be the most likely option for CHO and Pulisic for now, or coming on as subs for the front players. Of course if they hit such good form that forces TT to take notice that could also change things. The key for them will be to take their chances.

I wouldn't mind starting both at wingback against certain opponents, with three centre backs and two conservative central midfielders infront of them I wouldn't actually consider it that big risk against the bottom half sides.

We’ve had this conversation about “how is Pulisic going to find playing time” many many times. The reality is that when he is fit and in form he’s undroppable. He always comes back from an injury and manages to work his way back into the team.  He could become one of the best in the league. He doesn’t need to worry about any other players on that current front line. Just stay fit and do his thing.

Maybe, but the problem is, we've seen that 'unplayable' form for about 2 and a half months (and a few isolated games outside of that) in two years. He looked like he was picking his form up after the Palace game then for the rest of the season bar Madrid away he completely ghosted the whole period.

I won't write him off but he seriously needs to step up next term.

Huge huge year for him.  It doesn't help that he's a natural winger and right now we don't play with wingers. My guess is this will be his last year at Chelsea....selling him with 2 years left on his contract is ideal.  TT looks at MM, Werner, And Kai as cornerstones and looks at CP like a rotational piece.  Maybe rightfully so because of his injuries....and I LOVE CP but it's just how it is.

I was a fan of him signing. Recently though he always seems to be on a completely different wavelength than the rest of the team. Hoping he gains some form back. If he shows no improvement it could be he needs moving on.

He's been more or less rubbish for over a year now.

Come back to me when his contract has run down a bit and I'll come up with a New Deal joke.

Clocked up 79 appearances in all competitions and has 18 goals and 14 assists.

1 goal contribution every 2.5 games or once for every 155 minutes played.

Last year in the league he was really underwhelming for nearly the whole campaign but chipped in with some big contributions during the Champions League.

Hopefully he turns it around a bit in the league this season.

Here’s hoping it was just second season syndrome!

And how is that is comparison to other players at his position?

That is assuming that one can rate a player even an attacking player on just goals and assists.

Werner: 54 appearances. 12 goals and 15 assists. 1 goal contribution every 2 games or a contribution every 148 minutes played.

Ziyech: 40 appearances. 7 goals and 4 assists. 1 goal contribution every 3.5 games or every 177 minutes played.

Havertz: 47 appearances. 9 goals and 10 assists. 1 goal contribution every 2.5 games or every 139 minutes played.

CHO: 99 appearances. 13 goals and 16 assists. 1 goal contribution every 3.5 games or every 160 minutes played.

Mount: 109 appearances. 17 goals and 15 assists. 1 goal contribution every 3.5 games or every 354 minutes played.

Abraham: 82 appearances. 30 goals and 12 assists. 1 goal contribution every 2.0 games or every 109 minutes played.

I agree you cannot judge a player purely on goals and assists stats but for attacking players it is a decent barometer for whether they are achieving their primary function for being in the team.
