Christian Pulisic - Official

With the way Pulisic plays? I very much doubt he's another Bogarde.

I didn’t say that.  My own theory is actually the first put forward though he wouldn’t be the first to have a low pain threshold and happy to do less intense training till he is completely better.

Word's out that Stalin has been resurrected and is after Pulisic so he’s been shifted to a safe house by MI6. The press has been briefed by MI5 not to make any questions regarding his “recovery” (if you know what I mean), and Tuchel is believed to work secretly for the Stasi. It’s all like this in Europe, you know? But my contact has told me that they saw today Pulisic in his track suit trying to enter the Brentford stadium waving his US passport and screaming “I’m an American citizen! You can’t kick me out of the stadium!”. But it’s all very hush hush here.

No need to be a smartass. Anerican fans are a little concerned. You can make light of it all you want. Still is disheartening and frustrating that no one really has addressed exactly what is going on besides the requisite weekly Tuchel "He is still injured" line.

Strictly speaking, medical matters are private. The club don't really owe us an in-depth analysis on Pulisic's health in addition to the fact he's not fit to play competitively.

Never seen a professional club, in any sport, not update its fans on the medical condition of its players when it involves an injury. Doesn't happen here, in any sport. Big difference between an update on a "twisted ankle" and revealing a player tested positive for an STD. And, along that note, Chelsea has no issues telling the public when a player has tested positive for covid, now do they? My point is, there has got to be much, much more to this situation for it to be so clandestine heading into the second month of the player having disappeared from the club with what was relayed to the public by Tuchel as an "ankle sprain and a ten day recovery window."

Agreed, this is clearly an egregious case of Munchausen Syndrome by proxy.

You've woken up my passive-aggressive side. There may be some secret, there may not be some secret. I don't particularly care, Pulisic's contribution to the team has been negligable for some time now, can't say we're missing him. Take your time, Chris, take your time, and don't take any chances. Perhaps read some tourist information about the northeast in your spare time?

Anyone have ANY idea what the hell is wrong with Pulisic? A twisted ankle is now entering its second month of not being ready and nobody here in the US knows, or hears, a thing about his injury progression. We do, however see Tammy post video of CP playing basketball with Ben Chilwell, and CP attending New York Jet games in London while his mates were getting their asses kicked in Panama. Just curious if he is going to play again this season, because we are told nothing about his condition from Chelsea. Please let us Yanks know if you guys know more - something doesn't smell right here.

I read it was a high ankle sprain.  I spent several years coaching HS American Football.  A high ankle sprain is probably the worst non-catastrophic injury you can get.  It takes a long time to heal, and you can't tape it and go like you can a lower sprain.  You will inevitably reinjure it.  The best course of action is to let it heal completely before returning.

If that was the case you would think they would have noticed it as a high ankle sprain from the start and not given such a short recovery window.

Hard to misdiagnose a high ankle sprain. For them to put a ten day window on it makes no sense. And the video i saw of Pulisic shooting jump shots with Chilwell, ain't no way he was nursing a high ankle sprain.

Such as shame that he is so injury prone and has become something of the "forgotten man".

When 100% fit he gives us such a good option but you have to wonder how often will he be fit?

At this rate we would be better off re-signing Boga or taking Traore off Wolves. Not saying either are as good as Pulicic on his day, but they would certainly play more football.

As an Aussie Pulisic reminds me of Harry Kewell, one of Australia’s  greatest players but 2nd half of a shortish career completely blighted. by injury. I am not sure we will ever see much of Pulisic. Between his injury and cho failing to develop our great attacking options have been greatly reduced.

So far this season, Pulisic has played 2 games and 159 minutes.

He had missed 10 games already due to injury and covid.

Those are really sad numbers, no matter how you look at it.

Still not back in training. Nevermind harry Kewell start calling him Christian Anderton

True, but paling into insignificance in comparison to poor Eden Hazard's last 2 years !

From The Athletic:

Christian Pulisic has endured a series of “setbacks” since sustaining an ankle injury while playing for the United States in early September, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has said.

Pulisic, 23, was forced off after a hefty challenge from Honduras’ Maynor Figueroa, and has not played since.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League match against Malmo on Wednesday evening, manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that although Pulisic was “close” to a return, he is still suffering with discomfort.

Tuchel said: “Only Pulisic is missing tomorrow. I cannot give you all of the details because I am not a doctor, but at the moment he has had some setbacks from pain. Not from a major injury or complications. It is simply the pain in the ankle that disturbs him.

“Once these players with quick movements like Christian, once they feel this pain and they are not free in the movement the recovery is not happening.

“You start all over again, and you start all over again, and you reach a certain point and the pain comes back. And you have to do a little pause and start all over again.

“So right now we are very, very close. He was so close to come to team training last week and had a little setback and reaction, by pain. Nothing serious. From there on we go.

“He is very impatient, of course, and he does everything and we can see him suffer in every meeting and every time we meet him here [at Cobham] he is really suffering and he wants to be on the pitch and help us. Everybody is doing his very best. Unfortunately the injury takes its time.”

The club web site now has him listed as 5'10" (up from 5'7" last year). Seems a tad optimistic, unless they've been stretching him on a rack at Cobham during his recent absence from the team ... 🙂

 That explains everything, but it's obviously still a conspiracy of the club and the Lizard People to hush this up!

Actually that is not the case.  High ankle sprains are commonly misdiagnosed.  https://www.foothealthfacts.org/article/sprained-ankles-can-be-complicated-and-misdiagnose

Look at my reply above. a commonly misdiagnosed injury.  If you don't know what it is, it's probably not as "high" on the ankle as you'd think.

From my experience coaching, its the probability of reinjuring this thing that is so problematic.  You can do almost anything with your high ankle sprain past a certain point after the swelling etc.  Casually shoot jumpers, go for a run, even hike in the mountains.  Almost anything is OK, EXCEPT playing sports with intensity.  High ankle sprains are usually caused by sudden movements: twists, cuts, turns while running.  It almost never happens to people who are not engaged in this type of activity.

So after the initial pain, swelling, etc. that is the same type of feeling as a lower ankle sprain which is why it's commonly misdiagnosed, it is still susceptible to reinjury until completely healed.   A lower sprain can often be taped/braced, even early on in the healing process, but the high sprain is just extremely sensitive to reinjury until completely healed.

Look CP is obviously prone to injury, and maybe he's a puzzy or faking it or something.

But his last two major injuries are just historically bad injuries that are prone to reinjury more than other injuries and the best course of action is usually to rest them completely until completely healed.   The oblique injury is also a killer for athletes and in ways has similar problems than a high sprain: long recovery time, hypersensitivity to reinjury,  not usually treatable by physical therapy.

I am not a medical person, but I have spent a life time dealing with kids' injuries and suffered a severe high sprain myself in my late 20s playing soccer.  Down for about 10 weeks and I was always a quick healer.  I gained about 20lbs BTW.

So bottom line CP could be a puzzy, but the last two injuries if he truly had them I guess for you conspiracists out there, shouldn't surprise with the length of recovery.  They need to heal completely.

I've been told on here, presumably by Englishmen, that it is perfectly acceptable to refer to the game as association football, or the s word for short.
