What are your thoughts on these Saudi deals? Are they kosher? Is there something that will surface later? Are they just recycling money to comply with FFP?

It's not like they are paying absurd amounts of money for these players, are they? They've paid less money for three players than Arsenal have for Havertz.

Saudis are buying themselves a league full (or as full as they can make it) of established names. For credibility, basically. Or what they see as credibility. Boehly is using his contacts to serve a Chelsea purpose. It's as kosher as, for example, Arsenal offloading Thomas Partey to the Saudi league.

My take is that the Saudis want to kick on from their promising showing in the last World Cup (the group victory over eventual Champions Argentina was remarkable), and that they consider one way of doing that is to sign some decent players to play alongside their home stars in the hope that there will be a raising of the bar in the standards of their league and the Saudi players, with a knock on effect on the performance of the national team. Obvious targets are players at the end of their career in search of one final great paying contract, or players whose religion is a good fit for Saudi Arabia. and who will integrate well with the culture.

Multi club model. Might work really well if done right.

Excellent news, its a 40% stake as well so I dont think that will cause any issues if we do play them in some european competition. Onto the portuguese league next!

Really is crazy this is considered legal.

Thank UEFA for loosening the rules about multiple ownership. They were 15th in L1. We were 12th in the PL. Twins separated at birth.

Arsène Wenger's home town, too.

Right! This kind of model threatens the integrity of competition its so weird can't say I like the thought of this being the future at all.

So the name of the consortium is ‘BlueCo’, now watch a new member choose that as their username..

Does sound a bit like an alcoholic drink but I’m sure it will become second nature soon enough in association with us.

Does that mean they only buy teams that wear blue?

The optics don’t look great, but I don’t see an illegality taking place here from our end.

It’s really a case of two parties mutually benefiting for different reasons. If there’s concern around it, it’s up to the relevant governing bodies to regulate this activity going forward.

This is a convenient tool for us to comply with FFP, and PIF have a big motivation to grow their league by signing big name players from Europe.

The bigger concern if anything is whether PIF will use this as a mechanism to bring these players over to Newcastle below market value.

So because we sold our players to Saudi Arabia, it's cheating? 😆 Desperation from rivals fans. Neville should shut up too, his club is about to be owned by Qatar.

Always amuses me that Neville is seen as a moral authority in football when he’s a lightweight in reality. Just preaches to the gallery, but says nothing of substance or intelligence.

He’s nothing more than a hypocrite serving his own interests, whether it’s for United, Salford or his employer, Sky.

How the hell does that work if we play them in Europe?

We're quite a way off that happening and all the noise is that the rules will be relaxed.

City own a team who finished 10th in la Liga and Palermo who are currently mid table in serie b. As well as a ridiculous number of clubs globally. It's the future.

Precedent was set by UEFA when the 2 Red Bull teams played each other in europe about 5 or 6 years ago, it was allowed due to the way the ownership model was ran, something about different board members at each club or something like that.
