even in FM this always works because they usually have a release clause under 30 million euros

Yep its called proper scouting and we are doing it and shipping them to the french league to get experience if they turn out to be worldclass we take them if they turn out to be semi good we either keep if needed or sell down the line for profit

Souness absolutely spot on with his musings on 200 million on DMS, and a halfhearted attempt at winning games, iE Goalscorer

The same Souness that never has anything nice to say about Chelsea you mean?

Yeah, a Liverpool pundit that's still bitter his club didn't get two signings they wanted.

Additionally, we may be routing the money through a third party to have a more balanced cash flow. (e.g. we need to send out 125m this year but we are sending out 25m+ a fee to a financier for 5 years).

That’s possible there was of course an obligation for the new owners to inject £1.75 billion and the funds may well be coming from that wedge . I am far from sure as to how those funds will be accounted for maybe increased equity maybe loans but when you consider the like of Brighton show in excess of £300 million in loans from their owners and Arsenal are think owe hundreds of millions to their owners I think it’s all about perspective

Fundamentally his assertion is correct, it is exactly what I think.

We have spent an absolute mother lode of money on Midfielder area players, and a bit on Jackson who has massive potential, but is absolutely untried in the PL, you explain. Boehly and his lack of Comprehension about actually winning games, not, not conceding goals…

You cant win titles without a good midfield/defence.

I think the attack/GK is next summer priority

Lets see how well we do this season

100% with you on this.

Sarr hasnt actually got any fee to be amortised but Ziech still has circa £14 million so I suspect the club will balance the savings of around £5 million in wages in each of the next w years and hopefully it will be a free transfer at worse as opposed to having to pay him off

Really interesting reading your financial insights into the accounting figures terraloon. You have obviously put in a lot of research on this.

With Ziyech gone now, initially on a season long loan (£3.3 million loan fee has been reported by some media sources) but with an obligation to buy, how does this feed into your calculations?

The Souness has some valid points, as we still don't have goal scorers despite money spent. However, having a go at the Caciedo and Levia deal was just pure bitterness, after all it was the bid by Liverpool got us back into the bidding contest.

And also Nkunuku who is unfortunately injured, why ignore the actual striker we did buy?

You mean the midfield that we've been needing to upgrade for years? The same midfield everyone on here has been complaining about for years? Now suddenly we've spent too much?

You just can't win with some people. I do think we overpaid for Caicedo, but we still bought a top-quality player and another in Lavia. And what's funny is, Liverpool were more than happy to spunk all that money on Caicedo, Caicedo chose us instead of them, simple as that. I've noticed this contrast from Liverpool pundits, Carragher went from "you need to pay for quality" to "Chelsea fans should be worried about their owners spending" regarding Caicedo, how awfully convenient.

What are your alternatives then? When it comes to signing forwards, Jackson looks like one of our most shrewd buys since Costa. The alternatives were pay 100 million for another Serie A dud just to inevitably turn sh*t in the Premier League as usual. Our owners picked the smart option and signed a player who actually fits the system, has potential, and a smaller price tag.

Is he talking about our spending in general or just Caicedo in isolation though?

I believe it's all of our spending he means and I am worried. Well sometimes. It's not a problem on its own but when you throw into the mix a situation of things not working as we expect or quite panning out in 3 or 4 years then it could be a keg of gunpowder.

It's quite clear that it comes from a place of bitterness because we nabbed two players they desperately wanted. Which is why I'm not going to pay much attention to them two unlike some on here want to.

Just go back on this thread five pages (372) which was last week and people were whinging that we've got no midfielders, the Caicedo deal has fallen through, and we've not signed the players that we need. Now those same people are complaining that we've spent too much or we haven't bought a striker.

I'm not saying there's 0 merit to this, but it does look like people just want to complain about anything. I am currently a happy camper if I must say so, if Clearlake didn't get us any midfielders then I would've been extremely disappointed. However, they got us two of our targets, for that I will give credit where it's due. I wish other people would do the same instead of constantly looking for something to complain about with them.

There are so many moving parts in all this it would need a sizeable spreadsheet to keep a full track on things particularly as how fees are amortised from UEFAs perspective and the PL version  because they aren’t the same.

The two biggie fees paid for players that we still “own” are Lukaku and Kepa. As I pointed out a while ago the powers that be impaired circa £93 million from players valuers over the last two trading years. The last year which in effect was the first time that Bohleys group had input into the accounts was 21/22 and then some £76 million was written off  (this  is the biggest sum ever shown in a PLs accounts) it is impossible to say which players values they reduced but it’s inconceivable that Lukakus value and probably Ziyech and  Kepas weren’t impacted.

When a club posts a loss it’s ways looking out for things like depreciation and impairment the latter in a way is a way of significantly improving the numbers in future years. That £76 million was a major part of why we lost so much in that year the other major chunk was exceptional items which included a huge chunk in respect of a historical legal matter

In those 21/22 accounts we showed amortisation amounting to £160 million that’s way too high but it’s not just transfer fees that are included it also is the sums paid to agents.

The great things is when we sold say Havertz and the likes mid contract are this

1) Any profit between their amortisatied value and the sale price is profit. Some would have you believe it’s the difference between the fee you paid and the fee you sold them for. It’s not.

So  say we bought Havertz for £75 million, if that’s what we paid for him ,on a 5 year deal. After 3 years his book value would be £30 sell him for £65 million and in the accounts that’s a profit of £35 million

2) You remove the amortisation charge by £15 million in seasons 23/24 & 24/5

3) Likewise in those two seasons if he was on £250k a week £13 million pa in wages  that’s saved plus another £1.5 million in employers NIC add on again pension contributions

As for Ziyech his fee will have long been paid to A**x. Again it’s probable as I say his book value was impaired meaning his £7 million  pa amortisation charge would be significantly reduced . If the loan fee you mention is right I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that’s the revised amortisation charge, of course you would hope that we aren’t responsible for any of his wages .

All in all I doubt the club were looking to gain anything but avoiding have to pay two years wages at around £100k a week £5 million pa plus another chunk in NIC and pension

Read somewhere Clearlake is essentially banking on 3 things to return a profit and clear the debt/FFP moving forward.

1. Relying on the transfer market inflation to continue to rise. (Selling our assets)

2. Commercial revenue + TV Broadcasting.

3. Champions League/Silverware revenue.

I never said that but you’ll win f**k all without scoring, no matter how good midfield and Defence.

Carragher went from Caicedo being a brilliant buy for loonypool and good value for the quality.

To Boehly stupidly overspending, for the same player at the same price. Total d**khead.

Our " fans" are in total agreement with him over on the match day thread..  d**khead f**kers

Hope our owners have a plan B for keeping us in good financial order without CL money next season as well.

They will put up Colwill & James to balance the books.. 😂
