of course he will have those in Naples who did not mind him leaving and werent huge fans of his.  Naive to think otherwise

Saying "a lot" implies a majority, or a lot. Not a minority of fans.

Napoli fans love Sarri. There is always a small minority that don't agree with anything.

Di Marzio and Sky Italy is reporting he's become Juventus first choice for their new manager.

If thats the case i would be surprised if he's here come july. I don't think the club will sack him but i think he's going to leave himself if Juventus comes knocking.

Chelsea are in for a difficult season even if Sarri stays. Still think its completely absurd to change Sarri out after one season. I'd give him a pay rise. None of the Chelsea players in the AV/Derby match looked like natural starters at Chelsea. Tomori at a pinch could compete with Christenson I guess, Mason Mount looks a bit soft in midfield although shows some flashes but seemed to pass badly under pressure and Tammy Abraham was largely invisible although looked like he moved well.

Pep Guardiola had one year managing the Barcelona B team before being given the main job.

Had he paid his managerial dues before being given one of the biggest jobs in world football?

Or did his knowledge of the club, having had a long and successful playing career at Barca, mean the board were confident in his abilities to make the step up?

You're not the first person to compare Pep with Frank, but Pep inherited a more talented (albeit underperforming) side than Frank will and unlike Frank, he was already working within the club when he took Barcelona's managerial position, so he would have had a greater knowledge of the side he was inheriting.

Beyond that though, is there anyone who went straight from being a successful Championship manager to being a successful Top 4 PL manager? I can't think of anyone, at least not in recent history. RDM is an example of someone who struggled to make the transition, for example, and his West Brom side were quite attractive to watch as far as promoted PL sides went.

Who do we have in line if Sarri leaves and Frank makes the sane choice and doesn't take the job so early? I watched Frankies presser after yesterday's defeat. He didn't say he will stay at Derby with those words but I don't think he should take Chelsea job 1 year in managing.

We may not even offer Lampard. Might go for Lopetegui. Or Javi Gracia. Or Tuchel.

I think there's so much smoke we have to assume Sarri is going to leave. It's a shame and I'll constantly think "what if".

Assuming Frank is not offered the role, surely the club would have to go for Allegeri? I know people aren’t keen on his style but he’s as close to a world class manager that will get and who is available.

I don't think he'd come here. But I don't think the board will offer a third serie a manager in a row.

My point isn’t specifically comparing Frank to Pep more making the point that there are no set rules about when someone “deserves” to be appointed to a big club.

Pep had no experience before being given one of the biggest jobs, neither did his successor Vilanova.

Antonio Conte had almost no experience managing in the top flight prior to being given the Juventus job. Even Sarri has only one year managing in the top division before Napoli appointed him.

What I’m saying is there is no “best” time to appoint a manager at a stage in their career it's whether they’re suited to that specific job. Frank’s ties with Chelsea mean his suitability to managing us would be judged differently to someone with no former affiliation with Chelsea.

I think we might go for Tuchel, if not Frank, as well.

It’s been mentioned before, but I really think this is going to be a case of the manager wanting to leave and Juve paying a buyout.  We won’t stop him from leaving but we won’t sack him either.

Win-win situation for everyone. Club gets money, Sarri gets Juve,  Sarrihaters is rid of Sarri.

We cannot have a repeat of the last pre-season!

Please not Lopetegui.

As much as I love Frank, don't think this is the right time for him, we don't want ruin his management career and legacy with the dilemma we are in. Assume Sarri is gone ( why wouldn't he), we will hire someone experienced but relatively low profile to fill the gap.

Don't really see how this is a win-win situation. That insinuates everyone is Sarri out, does it not?

Yeah that's not a win for me. We get £5m for a manager that I personally believe is the best placed to take us to the top....woop de f**king do.

I have a nagging feeling that we are being too hasty in dispensing with Sarri (if indeed we are doing that ? )

Football at the top level is changing, with many more clubs having access to rich owner's money to improve their teams. In the UK, we have Man City, Liverpool, Man United, Spurs, Everton, West Ham, Wolves (and soon probably Newcastle, and maybe Villa) all competing with us for players. Then on the continent, you have Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Paris St Germain, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Inter to add into the mix as well, most of whom are in a state of decline and in dire need of a rebuild program.

And it doesn't seem like there are 100s of top players out there any more, and certainly not enough to go around ...

More than ever, a coach who can make the team better than the sum of the parts, is a key requirement, rather than just manage a shopping list of top players . In theory, we already have this with Sarri and his "system".

Lets be honest, we aren't competing with Everton, West Ham, Wolves, Newcastle or Villa for players. The top 6 will be the top 6 and players are always going to be more attracted to those clubs.

Villanova (RIP) relied a great deal on Messi and benefited from Mou suffering third-season syndrome. Pep we've already discussed.

True enough, though Serie A is not the PL. Although Serie A is a tactician's wet dream, the standards of the PL are more exacting.

Additionally, Serie A was not so top-heavy when Conte took over Juventus (AC Milan/Inter back then would be fighting for Top 4 in today's PL), so it would have been much easier to win the Scudetto outright, never mind make the CL places.

Also, 1 season in the top-flight is more than Frank has enjoyed.

True, though IMO it probably shouldn't be.

Unless we have no better options, I think we are setting Frank up for a fall.

He just signed a contract extention with psg last week.

For one year.  I don’t think that changes much.  Conte was extended for an additional year and didn’t see it through.  PSG is obsessed with CL glory, so I’m sure he’s not on the longest leash, and if we offered a buyout I think they would consider it.

What about the fans, players, and others affiliated with the club who are not Sarri out?  Definitely not a win situation for them.

Remember when the top 6 used to be the top 4?

Remember when we only competed with Arsenal and United?

There is absolutely no reason at all to suggest we are always going to be in the top 6. If we bin off Sarri, replace him with another manager, who we then come 6th or 7th with (easily doable), then bin him off. How many players are going to rush to us if there are better projects happening at Everton, Wolves and Newcastle? We all laughed when Oxlade Chamberlain turned us down for Liverpool. We will laugh again when a player turns us down for Wolves or Everton in the future. But it could happen.

We are not far away from fading as a club out of the top 6. Our ground is the worst of the top 6  (worse than Newcastle, Aston Villa, West Ham and soon to be Everton as well). We have no structure as a board, no direction, no style,no world class players (other than Kante), our owner doesnt live here anymore. There is absolutely no reason why we should be a top club forever more.
