Not enough to form an opinion either way really ... But 31 minutes is enough to deem him worthy of playing backup to Reece James and displacing Azpi?
January 30, 20206 yr According to the Sun he is going to Brighton now: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/10858297/tariq-lamptey-brighton-chelsea-transfer/ That came from nowhere but apparently a deal was reached between the clubs.
January 30, 20206 yr probably best to sell him now, so we can insert clauses, rather than him walk for free in the summer.

January 31, 20206 yr I would like to see him play more for us to judge his quality before we decide to sell. I think a future scenario of James and Lamptey playing together on the Right would be an exciting prospect if it could work.
January 31, 20206 yr I assume that Lampard has been asked about him, and if he's been sold it is because he gave the ok to it. So I'm fine with it, as long as Frank's opinion has been considered (and as long as he does not go to a direct rival for top 4-6).

Keep him for 6 months and play him then he just walks for free? Selling him this window was the best to do. No way can we convince a player to stay and sign a new contract and be third choice RB.
January 31, 20206 yr A little bit gutting but when you're behind a generational talent who's already one of the top RB's in the league this can happen. Hopefully we've activated a buy back clause in case we either revert to a back 3 or James is moved to a midfielder.

I actually thought give him a run out for a couple of times and see how he looks, if decent make him an improved offer. I find it strange that both Lille and Brighton are interested without hardly having seen him much in the EPL. Can't quite explain why yet he looks a natural to me, James on the other hand has great attributes yet not sure he is a natural full back think he might end up in midfield. What is for certain is that Azpi won't last much longer at full back in the EPL.
January 31, 20206 yr I guess if he won’t sign then it’s difficult, but with Azpilicueta looking pretty knackered and James still somewhat unproven, then it’s very sad to see a highly rated young prospect leave. Knowing how things turn out at the Bridge, Lamptey will sign for City or Liverpool for 50 million in a years time and James will have completely lost his way. Time will tell.
January 31, 20206 yr No mention of a buyback clause in the news about his transfer. It says we are getting around £4.5 for him. I don’t think it’s too bad considering he’s not played a full game for us and has 6 months left on his contract. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a buyback option in place.
January 31, 20206 yr Here I was thinking he was going to Lille, and now it's Brighton! Totally missed the reports on that. Edited January 31, 20206 yr by Valerie
January 31, 20206 yr Wish him the best of luck at Brighton, really hope he will success there! I think his decision is acceptable, Azpi and Reece James are on his position, he wants to play and he has the rights for it.
February 6, 20206 yr Author Sad to see him leave, but wish him all the best at Brighton. Hope the club has included a buyback clause in the transfer.
February 6, 20206 yr All things considered, this is probably a good move for all concerned. Lamptey gets proper development in the Premier League (and in a team which has, in their Premier League experience, had a fairly decent defensive structure). We, if we have any sense, will have put a buyback clause in meaning that he gets top-flight development and we can get him back on the relative cheap if he turns out to be the real deal.
June 24, 20206 yr Not a good moment yesterday. I thought upon hearing Lamptey's name: Where do I know this name from again?
July 8, 20206 yr My liverpool supporting mate has just been raving about lamptey. Said he hopes they sign him as back up to trent. I didnt watch the game but if carries on putting in big performance's maybe see him come back here in a couple of seasons, no buy out clause but we could get him cheaper with the sell on fee. Definitely one to watch, even if he is on the ahort side.

July 21, 20205 yr Another solid performance yesterday, looks like we somehow let him go too easily. This reminds of Ake who went on to become one of the best CB's in the league and now some big clubs are after him. And also Boga who is in excellent form and running rings around Serie A defenders at the moment (although there is a favorable buy-back clause). Such a pity that we couldn't at least send Lamptey on loan, he is only 20 and already seems capable of playing regular, first team football in a PL club. In Brighton's current system which really suits him he could develop into a fantastic player. I think we might regret this transfer in near future...
July 21, 20205 yr Ake is not one of the best in the league. He's not even an upgrade on what we have. Massively overrated by some.
July 21, 20205 yr For me he is clearly better than Zouma and especially Christensen. I mean his presence was crucial in Bournemouth's defence. When Ake was injured they looked totally disorganised. He is an intelligent CB, left-footed, also confident on the ball and a good passer. And he can even be a goalscoring threat. It is no wonder that Utd & City are interested in him. Btw I'm sorry this was a bit off-topic... Edited July 21, 20205 yr by wizardous
