What is James Rodriguez doing at Everton by the way? No disrespect to Everton, but Rodriguez should be playing Champions League football. I can't believe one of the top clubs in Europe couldn't find a way to fit somebody with his quality into their team.

Don Carlo is the only manager so far that can get the best out of him.

Why was Brighton's penalty over turned by VAR? Didn't United get a penalty against Tottenham exactly like that last season? It certainly wasn't a clear and obvious error from the ref.

Supposedly Connolly initiated the contact. Obviously thats bullsh*t but VAR never removed the problem of referees having no one to be accountable to so this nonsense will continue.

Funny how Christensen's tackle last week was an easy decision and blatant foul (it was) yet there is doubt manufactured over this incident. Bar Christensen putting his arms around Mane its basically the same call.

Agreed. The also ignored Fernandes putting his arm on Connolly's shoulder BEFORE Connolly supposedly 'initiated the contact'. When Azpi put his arm on Aubameyang's shoulder in the FAC final, there were howls of outrage that he wasn't red carded. And obviously VAR upheld Taylor's penalty award.

Nothing wrong with VAR being used after the final whistle to pick up on something the ref missed. A hell of a lot wrong with finding an extra 1m20s after the board showed 5 mins.

Sorry mate, but if the ref has ended the game, VAR checking possible penalties is not on. Who is to say that they go on and award a penalty in minute 78 that wasn't awarded then, or to show a red card in retrospective after the game is finished? Where do they stop the revision? The ref has blown the whistle, that's it, game finished.

I agree with this. If the final whistle has blown, the game is over.

So you might aswell jump with your hands down your shorts, Dier wasnt even looking at the ball and theres nothing he could do.

Depressingly, that still won't protect you. If you turn and it hits your arm by your side, you'll get a handball against you under current rules.

As much as I like Spurs dropping the points, the handball rule is a farce, it has to change.

He headed it down onto the arm from under a metre away.  This is just not right.

I thought Dier's arm came up though it did not look intentional more a reflex action.

Funny as it was as it was Spurs, referees, the pathetic attention seeking narcissists that they are, are using VAR to ruin/effect games as much as possible. Fingers crossed they don’t f**k us over too much this season. At least these incompetent twats are going to the pitch side monitors now.

I don’t quite understand why they’ve made it more strict. Can someone explain what they’ve changed and the implications of it?

The decision was another VAR joke, but I hope the FA now realise that refs cannot be trusted with timekeeping. Their job is hard enough as it is, but they have proved time and again that accurate timekeeping is beyond them. We saw that yesterday, when Man U were given a minute and a half beyond the board's 5 mins to win their pen and steal the game. In our match, the ref decided to add 20 secs to the 5, despite there being a goal, a VAR check and a restart.

Out of curiosity I looked closely at today's injury time at Spuds in detail with the aid of Sky+.

5 mins were shown on the board. The game was stopped at 92:34 for the VAR check. After the pen, the game resumed at 96:19. The final whistle went at 98:15. So the 5 mins of injury time actually lasted 4m30s.

Yes, this illustrates that Fergie time is real, but we knew that anyway. But it highlights that refs are not capable of keeping time fairly and accurately. It needs to be taken out of their hands, with a 'Time Off/ Time On' call as in rugby for stoppages like subs, players getting treatment, and VAR checks. Players, managers and spectators need timekeeping to be transparent and honest, not open to incompetence and worse, as is the case now.

Another attempt to protect the refs. Refs couldn't make their mind up what was handball and ball to hand in the past so now we are stuck with this rubbish.

Does anybody else get bored watching games involving Man City? They are just so much slower than other Premier League games. Teams just seem to wait to be beaten by them.

In other news, Bayern lost 3-1 to Hoffenheim. First time in 2 years that Lewandowsk is rested in the Bundesliga.

Bayern have no depth upfront & on the flanks. It’s kind of understandable though; just like with Spurs & Kane you are hardly going to see any mins playing backup to Lewandowski.
