Sevilla tried to rip us off last season so if they are trying the same stuff again happy to go in with a main back 3 of Trev, Silva and Colwill. Be great for both of them learning with Silva.

You are asking a lot from Silva to cover their inexperience.

Can't really be too surprised that Sevilla are playing hardball. They just sold their another CB to Villa, and they know we need reinforcements in defense. If we want him we will have to pay over the odds.

More to teach them and give them a chance to learn from playing alongside one of the greatest ever. High hopes for both of them. Trev was really great for a first season. Strong, good leadership, personality, pace and drive. Colwill has been getting James level reviews for his time in huddesfield and I feel he may be even better than Trev if he carries on developing the way he has so far. 30 minutes ago, forbzy said: Can't really be too surprised that Sevilla are playing hardball. They are dealing with a different Chelsea now, a business. They are fine to keep him and then either sell him for 30mill next summer or for free the one after.

Agreed. But it will take some time for attitudes towards our club to change. So at least this summer I will be surprised if we get him, unless we pay over the odds.

I am OK with that personally. I accept we need to build and change attitudes in order to challange for the title again.
June 7, 20224 yr So I've spent the last few days or so reading posts and articles regarding who initiated the Lukaku sale. Based on what I've gathered from articles in the Athletic and several reddit posts from posters who claim they are well ITK, it was McLachlan (not Tuchel) who initiated the Lukaku sale. He thought it was more efficient to prioritise a striker over bringing in a DM (Tchouameni), who they believed would still be available next summer. He genuinely advocated bringing in Lukaku and thought loaning Saul (who McLachlan believed he would adapt to the Premier League despite several warning signs) would fix our midfield depth in the meantime, where they would either buy him at the end of the season or make another attempt at Tchouameni. Surely the first order of business is to sack this clown if this is true? When fans of the club recognised Lukaku wouldn't suit us and that Saul is a lost cause, means this bloke isn't fit for this job? Edited June 7, 20224 yr by Sconnie Blue

I agree. I want this to be true but can't absolve Tuchel of all blame. He has to shoulder some of the blame if not for at least pushing back strongly on this. But all this is conjecture.

There’s a reason even when our defence struggled in the second half of the season Tuchel still wouldn’t start him.

Sounds like a sensible decision to me and a welcome change to how we've operated until now. It isn’t though; especially considering his unconventional 3-4-3. If they were to sack him in a couple of years, highly likely we get a manager who wants to play a back 4. Also considering he isn’t making smart plays in the market, and going after players on big wages good luck getting rid of his duds.

Good to hear it, the way we’ve been doing it just seems so backwards for years, especially if you’re trying to give build something more long term.

People will no doubt bring up Klopp but he doesn't get blanket control either, he wanted Brandt and was given Salah.

I can only read the first line but giving Tuchel full control takes us further away from Liverpool and city. Not closer. Pep and Klopp don't have full control. Klopp has barely any say in the matter!

June 7, 20224 yr The only reason a manager gets full control is if he had Ferguson's level of shrewdness and tactical acumen. Tuchel is 50-50 for me on both. We can't play the money game like City and I am sick of 343 atm. We need a prime Kante for that to work and that ship has sailed.
June 7, 20224 yr No manager in the Premier League has had "complete control" over transfers since Arsène Wenger, a man who was appointed in 1996. It's a complete nonsense from a nonsensical and deplorable publication. For a start, the first sentence: Quote Thomas Tuchel has been promised that he can take the lead on Chelsea’s transfer business by the club’s new owners in a shift designed to move closer to the Manchester City and Liverpool models.
