If we don't have that fast n' aggressive CB we can't play a high backline - especially with Thiago in the mix. but that was also for a few games.. Juve, arsenal, and a couple of more.. even during our early season form we had up and down performnaces.. brentford, villa, burnley, city come to mind.. i agree we need a fast agressive CB to partner Thiago.. so lets c.

We didn't even keep defensive solidity, Liverpool and City play 4atb and conceeded less than we did and we play with an extra cb. Tuchel wants to play possession based football, but also have a structure in place so that we are not vulnerable to a counter if we lose the ball high up the field. I'd rather see a back 4 where the full backs take turns pushing forward (one stays when the other goes forward) so that we can still have 3 defenders back at all times plus a sitting DM. Whether that's in a 442, 433 or 4231 (which I think would suit this squad) I don't know.

That's Kounde! He's skilled with the ball and isn't afraid of stepping forward and taking on players both in offense and defense. A must sign this summer for sure. Edited May 25, 20224 yr by Gol15

If you want your fb to take turn going forward you need to push them both higher which mean you will defend in DM - Dm Cb - Cb With our current midfield we will have the same problem as in Sarri era where whenever we got countered it was a big chance for our opp. Furthermore, you expose Silva big time in this system

We played this season with a back 4 already. 9 matches with a back 4 with the following results: 7 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. Wins with the back 4 came against: Spurs (PL), Crystal Palace (PL), Newcastle (PL), Middlesbrough (FA cup), Plymouth (FA cup), Spurs (League cup), Spurs (League cup) Draw against Brighton and loss against Brentford in the PL. We didn't have Chilwell to play as the LB nor James as the first choice RB against Brighton. In the loss against Brentford, James came on after Brentford was already winning the match in the second half and he wasn't fully fit at the time as he was just coming back from his injury. Our wins though, most of them came from Tuchel playing a combined squad and it worked.
May 27, 20224 yr https://www.thechelseachronicle.com/club-news/were-looking-thomas-tuchel-hints-at-which-formation-he-will-be-using-at-chelsea-next-season/ Can't believe everything you read. But a continuation of three at the back and 75th minute substitutions might not go down well with the "management". Thomas may not be the Messiah but he might be a very naughty boy. May 28, 20224 yr I have just watched some of our early season games where we were flying. I expected to say we really miss Ben but it was cho and ziyech that caught my attention. The difference with us playing with attacker who are dribbler compare to none is very significant. With them the offense had more purpose because their ability to play one on one and attack bring completely different dynamic to our offense. We rarely had "stuck" phase where the ball just recylce non stop.

May 29, 20224 yr Klopp bottles his finals regularely. Only against us and the Spuds he could win his finals. Isn't this hurting enough? Edited May 29, 20224 yr by TheGermanOne

May 29, 20224 yr Let’s not forget, that they didn’t score a goal during all the minutes of open play in the finals. No immense headers from corners late in the game to equalise to take it to ET or anything like that. The first shootout went to 11 shots relying on a number 2 keeper to sky it and the second shootout was settled by a poor penalty shot by an inexperienced (and young) penalty taker (though Azpi was also more of a surprise miss). Both the League and FA cup was more about luck than anything. No open play goals at all (let’s also not forget we were done by VAR with a Lukaku onside goal the first time).

While i do agree for the most part it is certainly a hoodoo that needs fixing soon. The more finals we lose the more it will play in our heads and make it harder to win one. Domestically that is, thankfully we seem to have European/world finals cracked.

May 29, 20224 yr A champions league final is the most hurting one to lose a final. There is absolutely no doubt.

June 6, 20224 yr Footy 365 has an article on Kounde, thinks he is going to Barcelona rather than us. He wants to stay in Spain if reports are accurate.

Barca are broke though; they need to find €500m by the end of month. Any player signing for them now probably needs his head examined. They are owing Pique €40m in deferred wages alone , & asking current players to defer wages so they can sign new players.

June 6, 20224 yr Always confuses me how, for a team that at the minute can’t register new players and are in economical shambles, the media link a new player with Barcelona every day

I find it depends on circumstances around the game. For example, losing The Cup Final this season hurt much more than Moscow 2008. I can't tell you why but I found this year's Cup Final unbearably tense from start to finish. I was kicking every ball and the defeat was devastating. It hurt so much that even watching the women lift the trophy the next day didn't really raise my mood. Moscow on the other hand was different. we were second best until Renaldo put them ahead but were the better side the rest of the way. We were even better in the spot kicks and only a piece of outrageous bad luck cost us the trophy. Yes that reverse hurt but those factors eased the pain for me whereas this season's Cup Final loss is still not out of my system. I appreciate that others will have experienced those two losses differently to the way I have but this is how they were for me so I can't agree with your claim.
