So then maybe he breaks through this season if he's that good, Tuchel will not purposely leave him out if he proves to be better than Ake. Also the players you've mentioned at 19 were not at elite clubs, Gvardiol at Leipzig, Kounde at Bordeaux and De Ligt at Ajax. If you're a youth player at an elite club they have to accept that nobody is walking into the team especially at CB. Realistically can we risk going into the new season with just 1 new CB and Colwill who has only played championship football replacing Rudiger, Christensen and potential Azpi? Not if we want to close the gap on the top 2 and challenge for the champions league. Thiago Silva, Chalobah, Colwill, new CB, Azpi (if he stays) and Sarr would be our options at CB. But if we sign Ake that's the gap plugged from the start and then if he stays to prove himself he could very well break into the team, especially given Thiago Silva will be 38 in September he can't keep playing every game. Signing a 27 year old Ake at 30-35m isn't the same as a 70m 22 year old, to me signing a cheaper option shows that there is a future for Colwill here, he just needs to be patient. June 30, 20224 yr I mean am i missing something obvious here? Wouldn't signing a 27 year old Ake for a relatively low fee who if his career so far is anything to go by won't be able to hold down a starting place long term a sign that there is faith in Colwill? The reality is we have lost a lot of CB's and were never going to not sign atleast 2. One of them being Ake would make me feel more confident there's a clear path for Colwill not less.

I would agree that it provides some cover that would allow us to send Colwill out on loan to maybe a Premier League club. I am OK with him going out on loan in those circumstances. My concern is that we let him leave on a permanent deal like we have done with players like Livramento and Guehi.

Livramento had 1 year remaining and Guehi too I believe? We have a lot of leverage in negotiating. At worst I can see us selling with a buy back.

Young Levi is exactly the same age as JT was when he broke into our first team, in the PL, and has considerably more loan experience than JT had ! (JT 6 games at 2nd tier Nottingham Forest vs Colwill 32 games at 2nd tier at Huddersfield)
July 14, 20224 yr Just finished watching some highlights and I gotta say he looks like a really classy defender. I hope if he leaves this summer it's only on loan or at least with a buy back clause. Also I love the fact that he wore the number 26 jersey with Huddersfield 🥰.

Another loan would be ok, but he is Reece James level of quality at the same age and a season training and some games alongside Silva and possibly Koulibaly could be amazing for his development.
July 14, 20224 yr I may be overly optimistic with this thinking but maybe, since we are losing 4 contributing defenders, we plan to sign 3 and bring in Colwill to make up the numbers? Christensen and Rudiger have already left and if we bring in Koulibaly and Ake - that replaces those two. Then we sign Kounde or Kimbembe - that allows Alonso or Azpi to leave. Colwill coming in from loan allows the last to leave and gives Colwill multiple players to learn from, and slowly start taking minutes from. That gives us T. Silva, Koulibaly, Kounde/Kimbembe, Ake, Chalobah, Colwill. Ake is versatile and can play LCB, LB, LWB, CB, DCM and not just solely CB... Like I said, maybe I am being too optimistic with this level of thinking and getting my hopes up. But, maybe - just maybe - that is the plan I could also see TT telling him, he wants to loan him so he plays a lot more regularly and then he's integrated into the team next season. Completely agree. No reason to leave with the number of games we have and 5 subs now. I'd like to see him play alongside our experienced players and take the step.
July 14, 20224 yr If I was Colwill, I'd be licking my lips at the prospect of what I could learn as a squad player alongside Thiago Silva and Koulibably in training every day ... chance of a lifetime surely ? Almost certainly Silva's last season at CFC ...
July 14, 20224 yr Looks like the same mistakes everytime .. I don’t understand chasing mid level players like Ake.. and selling players like Guehi… Tomori.. It’s madness going for 3 CBs.. when you have a prospect like Colwill.. TT has been reluctant with his use of Chelsea youth.. and it seems like we will continue to see the same trends.. which is very disappointing.. I’d much rather take a ping on Colwill like lamps did with mount and Reece.. I wonder if we would have seen these two rise to the top either under TT going by his preferrences.. crazy pursuit for the inter RB cost us livraminto… too

July 14, 20224 yr As good as Broja, Guehi, Tomori, Lamptey, Livramento etc are and can be, Colwill is far ahead in terms of ceiling potential. If we let him go I reckon could be as destructive as if we sold JT.
July 14, 20224 yr Koulibaly/Silva/Kimpembe (Ake) Chalobah/Koulibaly/Colwill This makes too much sense.

When he's at the level where he will displace Kimpembe/Ake, it will happen naturally. Shoot, we may even see Kimpemebe/Ake switch to sweeper when Silva leaves and then Colwill at LCB. July 15, 20224 yr He has a very composed stature in the way he defends, almost like VDV. Really hope we prioritise Kounde vs Kimpembe. This way, Koulibaly would be LCB and this would allow Colwill to be rotated with him.
July 15, 20224 yr he's not going to be sold (or he is not pushing to leave as was suggested by some sources, he does want some clarity regarding his pathway, but with Silva being 38 i think there is definitely a pathway for him to be a first choice within 2 years) maybe loaned out but i think he will have a chance on some minutes in the first team if we get Kimpembe and no other CB our starting lineup might be Kimpembe - Silva - Koulibaly with Chalobah and Colwill in rotation and Sarr as emergency back-up that will give us 6 CB's for 3 available spots which seems to me more than enough, considering James can play RCB when needed the question is: is it more beneficial for him to play let's say 15 a 20 games for Chelsea or to play 40 games for another PL team? He does have Silva and Koulibaly to learn from. Edited July 15, 20224 yr by azpi28
July 15, 20224 yr Needs to be in the squad this season, no mucking about, no loan, no selling, will have plenty of opportunities for game time, let's not forget sometimes loans can be backward steps.

Only have to look at Gilmour to see how a loan to the wrong team can cause a player a problem.

July 15, 20224 yr Its bewildering to watch him play and see his level of maturity and composure and realise he's only 19. Absolutely mad if he isn't integrated this season. Again, Koulibaly and Colwill for the LCB spot is ideal.
