It’s some achievement to be disliked by every club you have played for recently even clubs you almost signed for hates you. Take a bow son you achieved the impossible!!

It's not him though, it's all the others. Roma is the only club he ever really loved anyways.

Lukaku who currently is at a youth tournament where his son is playing his first game for Anderlecht. Says to the press. "I'm nervous. Tomorrow I'll fly to Roma in order to sign".

It also says that he had a voice call with mourinho yesterday.

It does mention that nothing has been set in stone in regards to an agreement with Chelsea, but the fact that he already is flying over means that it's looking positive that all parties will get to an agreement I would say.

I first thought this was a hoax, but apparently it isn't.

I'll believe it when I see it. Did someone already buy him a Rome restaurant guide for that final push he may need?

If I was him, I would be asking for a DNA test if any of those kids are his son....

A moody d**khead who is also a sh*te striker.

I agree with you I don’t rate him at all but the more I keep hearing we want a forward who can also play  wide as well as up front  there’s not many around

The agreement between Roma and Chelsea is now close, with Chelsea expected to take a loan fee of £8–9 million for Romelu Lukaku.

Roma is also working on Lukaku’s wages, which Chelsea will not contribute to, so he will have to take a cut to about £7 million a year.

Have seen it suggested we are demanding Lukaku sign an amended new contract that will see him drop his salary to 7mill pounds a year, which Roma will be able to pay the full cost of and IF (likely when) they don't keep him Rom comes back with 2 years left at the new reduced wage, hopefully making it easier for us to shift in and costing us less if we do not. No extention just an amended contract for his current 3 years left.

I wouldn't even think it's legal to demand that a player rips up his contract and signs one for lower pay ?

We cannot force him to do so no.

We can however tell him that he did indeed sign that contract and we control whether he is allowed to leave or not, so if he does not do what we want he can get paid his full salary and not play football for 3 years, and rot. He gets to choose.

I wouldn't think that that would be legal either.

Would anyone agree to a pay cut ?

Depends on the circumstances. For Lukaku it may mean the choice between playing time and a chance to be sected for the Belgium Euros team, as opposed to a wasted season and the expectation of an even lower chance of a club in the season 2024-25. Also, he probably will get by on a reduced salary. For us lesser mortals it's probably harder to swallow.

Sure it is, we made players sign extentions many times under Marina before we loaned them.

Is simple really, Romelu himself has made it clear he does not want to play for us anyway.

He signed the contract, nobody forced him to sign that deal. The deal means we own his registration.

So a deal has to suit us. Romelu blew up a permanent move to Inter, he left himself in this situation.

He can chose. Accept a deal thar we are happy with and move elsewhere or don't and stay here.

That's true , their pay is equivalent to winning the lottery every month year after year . Mental

Signing extensions is different to telling a player to rip up his current contract and sign a new one on lower wages isn't it ?

I dunno , if your theory is correct and legal , it's worth a try

Why wouldn't it be legal? If he signs it's a consentual agreement between two parties. Nobody can force him to sign. Nobody can force us to loan him to Roma for peanuts. If he wants to leave, he's also going to have to do something for us. If he doesn't agree to a new contract, he's free to remain with his old contract and train with the reserves. Nothing illegal here...

🚨Chelsea and Roma approaching final steps for Lukaku. 🔴🟡

- Loan fee/wage contribution broadly agreed,
- Lukaku asked to take a pay-cut,
- Not just next season but for the last 3 years of his Chelsea deal,
- Wage savings make low loan fees worth it

I understand that. However my comment that it might be illegal was to a statement way back in the thread that the club could " demand" that he sign a new contract on lower wages, or else we could basically deliberately freeze him out of football during his remaining time on the contract

I don't think legally that we can do that.

If you're saying we could "request"  him to do it , then of course that's fine.
