Udinese vs Chelsea part 2 30/7/22 10am GMT

Obviously hasn't been really challenged defensively, but if RLC stays this aggressive when played as Rwb we could have a scary powerful side down the right with Reece as rcb. Atm is a much better option than having to play Azpi.

Looks like RLC is looking the far better option than CHO for that 2nd RWB spot.  He's been taking on defenders and beating them; putting in some great crosses, scored a  good goal. CHO just isn't taking any defenders on these days, letting alone beating any.

At the risk of micro analysis, let's hope he gives Gilmour a bit more time than 15 minutes at the end.

....... and 15 minutes at the end.

At least TT is consistent I suppose.

Loftus Cheek has so much natural ability, just needs to be consistent. This is a game against their B team, so he will look great.

Agreed but even CHO is not taking on anyone, A or B...

Hes abysmal isn't he.

He keeps getting tongue tied and mixing up his words. "Danger box, erm zone" was a personal fav.

Keeps talking about first game of the season against spurs.

and keeps getting players mixed up.

Looks like our scouts not only screw us with players, but also commentators

Interested to see Harvey Vale, in his Cameos for Chelsea and during the under 19s tournament I've still never seen him play well

yep - been ordinary at best (anonymous at worst) everytime i have seen him. No x factor on display.

maybe next pre season we can bring that Hutchinson kid, give him a try

Was hoping for a lot more from Gallagher in pre season to be honest. Not been impressive unfortunately.

o be fair, you could have said that for plenty players over the years. Wasn't Harry Kane a bit average early in his Tottenham career, when he was sent on loan and didn't look that good. The same for Salah here. Not saying he will be close to that level, but it's all about time and keeping faith.

Time has to be earned.

There's a fine line between patience and wasting time like for example United have with McTominay.

Certainly not the game changer we saw for Palace, but early days.  If he makes the squad he'll be a decent back up for some of the games against the lower ranked teams who we should (on paper) be beating even w/o a first XI.

Looks like the squad itself isn't going to change much from last year for the start of the season, apart from the 2 new signings + Gallagher. Broja and Ampadu might make the squad. Billy / Vale and the rest will likely go on loan I reckon or tried to be sold.

So, what have we learnt from pre-season?

Mendy - Still making big mistakes which will cost us points. Hopefully he can make up for it by earning us more than he loses.
Kepa - Time to go I think. No point wasting his career as a backup here.
Alonso - Much the same as ever.
Silva - Still quality.
Chalobah - Jury still out on him. Can look composed and tough to beat one minute, the next he's all over the place.
Chilwell - Still not quite up to match sharpness. So I expect Alonso to start the season.
James - Also seemed a bit off this pre-season.
Azpilicueta - Can still do a job as a RCB if we don't sign anyone else. But not as a RWB. Please no.
Sarr - Still pants. Please get rid.
Ampadu - Still kind of okay, but also maybe not quite at the level we need. Probably needs another loan.
Koulibaly - Looks quality.
Emerson - May end up getting used as an emergency LCB if we don't sign anyone else. Wish we wouldn't though, he's no good. Would rather sell.
Jorginho - Can actually make some good passes, when he wants to. Will probably stop again as soon as the real football starts.
Kante - Still an important player, if he can stay injury free.
Loftus-Cheek - Actually surpsingly good as a RWB going forward, but he can't defend to save his life. So against any half decent attack, he would struggle there. Can't see him fitting into the midfield anywhere though. So either a backup RWB or sell.
Mount - Still our best player.
Barkley - Why is he still here? Back to Everton hopefully.
Gallagher - Think he did enough to warrant a rotation spot this season. I see him rotating with Kante as the box-to-box type.
Gilmour - No change from his year on loan. Still looks reasonably tidy, but still looks lightweight and very easy to bypass. Kind of like Jorginho, but not quite as good. Maybe needs another loan, somewhere he will actually play.
Pulisic - Can score in America. Elsewhere, still runs down blind alleys.
Werner - Should hopefully be leaving.
Kenedy - Is wasting his career. 26 and he's still here going out on terrible loans every year. Just leave for f**k sake.
Havertz - Still talented but incredibly inconsistent and not someone you want to be relying on as your main striker.
Sterling - Looks good.
Broja - Will fit right in with our strikers who miss big chances.
Vale - Nowhere near first team level. If he wants to progress from the dev squad, maybe a loan to the championship?

Surprised. Werner didn’t play . RLC  was consistently strong and effective Sarr was at least fit and chalobah looked good  at the level today.

defence wasn’t tested so didn’t learn much but as usual we just don’t get the ball in the net enough.

I wasn't expecting the earth, having seen his attributes from last season

That's quite a few weaknesses right there ...

I think he has his work cut out to get into our starting XI.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he is a bit part player this season, and then sold next summer.

Where is that nonsense from?

And one big negative is that we have unfortunately learnt next to nothing about Levi Colwill ...
