Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

Want to see him, over the season, develop the talented young players we have and give them more minutes.

We should see Gallagher, Broja and Carney get plenty of first team minutes at a minimum. Hutchinson should be given opportunities soon as well.

We already have Chalobah, James and Mount. These 7 can form a new spine for a decade or more.

We need to cut deadwood like Ziyech and Havertz loose. Pulisic too if he wants out as he has only a year and a half left on his deal.

I'm ok with experimenting but can our managers not put wingers as wingbacks. Even if James and Chilwell work there, they are defenders that can attack. It's another thing putting one of our top goalscorer in one of the most challenging position in football

Mystified like us all as to his treatment of Sterling (I would say the last two weeks are the first time since he was born that he took a throw-in), keeping a clearly disinterested and ineffective Havertz on the pitch for 80 minutes, substituting Booja when he did, moving RLC out of the position he is suited to back into a position he is clearly not suited to, etc, etc.

Also expect the opposition to take short corners until we desist with the ridiculous ploy of only sending one defender out to deal with them. I don't get this tactic so maybe someone could explain it to me.

Can't put any fault on Potter for putting RLC at RWB when the alternative is Dave playing consecutive matches. I agree with the rest though.

Sterling at wingback.

Havertz starting and being on the pitch far longer than he deserves.

Broja being subbed off instead of Havertz.

True but there must be other alternatives than trying something that he should know hasn't worked for us.

I real;ly hopes Potter succeeds but it always amazes me with modern football managers the number of times they persist with players playing in positions they are clearl;y not suited to and the number of times they continue to pick underperforming players.

I'm no expert but Havertz has surely used up all his lives at this point. His performance against Brentford was abject as everybody at the ground, everybody on the matchday thread, every pundit, and every jounlist who reported on the match could see. Yet the coach and his staff left him on the pitch for 80 mintes. Simply mystifying.

Do agree with the majority, the tactical choices in deployment of certain players looks really naive. We got away with it against Villa, we did not against Brentford.

Also poor planning on the club's and TTs part not having a natural backup to James on hand like we did for Chilwell. We have seen the effect not targeting a proper defensive midfielder has had on us, now we see what we expected to see, no James massive issues on the right side.

Poor planning between the ownership and TT.

No natural ones. Chalobah could work there but we need him in the backline if we want to play 3 at the back.

Maybe Zakaria could do a job there but seems he is destined to play less than Saul.

Dave is the best option but he cannot play 3 games in a week anymore.

Call me old fashioned, but if the thinking is Dave can't play two games in a tow at wing back, then why not play 4-3-3 so that Dave can play full back and not have to rub the lines so much, and with actual wingers either side of the striker to provide the width ?

Sounds good to me.

I feel while I'd ideally like us to find another RB/RWB (the one downside of having a bonafide world class one is that's it's very hard to convince any of note to come and be cover) I feel the reaction to Ruben vs Brentford in regards to his ability in that position has been a bit extreme.

Yes Wednesday wasn't his night (understatement) but he played there and well when we outplayed Real and Spurs aswell as when we hit Burnley and Southampton for 4 and 6 respectively.

Jorginho is the answer at RWB. Trust me

Got it wrong again and to be honest, now that things are settling down, I think we look worse. By the end of Tuchel's time at the club, we were performing badly, but I knew what we were trying to do, I have no idea what we are doing under Potter. He plays with wing backs, but none of them get forward enough in promising attacking positions. We bought Chilwell from Leicester because of his attacking threat, but since Potter came in, he is playing Chilwell so deep. He's rarely available to provide the width, and when you have wing backs and one less attacking midfielder, you need your wing backs involved high up the pitch and often.

Sterling has gotten worse. Under Tuchel, he was heavily involved high up the pitch, but he is deeper now too. His starting position when we attack is about half way into the opponents half instead of close to the penalty area. It's like he expects Sterling to dribble past full backs, but that has never been his strength and is why he looks so bad so often with England. Guardiola got the best out of him, we are getting the worst out of him. I always said he would be a pointless signing if we played him this way.

Potter is also getting the midfield horribly wrong. Loftus-Cheek cannot start games regularly, he's just not good enough. It may sound harsh, but it's just a fact. He's a squad player at best. I don't know how he is getting more time on the pitch than Kovacic who is a far better player, even if he has his consistency issues.

It's like watching Southgate's England these last 3 games. It's sh*t. We don't even dominate possession anymore.

I knew that a back 3 won't work, poor start of the match tactically but at least mr Potter fixed it soon enough. Unlucky to concede a goal from Casemiro there, Chiwell fell asleep.

Overall these draws can mean that at some point we'll improve and start winning matches so I hope that will be the case. Maybe a player in January is a must.

Get to be bored by a Potter team instead of board by a TT team, and all for what 40mill they paid to make it happen. Lol.

That first half was diabolical from us, fair play to potter for making the changes early but we need to stop starting games so crap.

He needs to stop playing RLC, he can't consistently perform and was a real weak link in our midfield, if we have Jorgi and Kova both available we HAVE to play both of them.

Sterling needs some time off the pitch too, he's been average or poor virtually every game we've played so far.

Spot on post you've nailed it Potter is  a negative coach  that punched above his weight as an underdog with Brighton his destiny is coaching England

Looks to have his favorites, and have a blind spot to them no matter how crap they are, just like every other manager.

In his case it appears they are RLC, Mount, Sterling, Aubameyang and Havertz, though he did drop the latter at least today.

No way we make top four this season. Not when we are throwing away big points against top 4 rivals at the death.

Tight game between two pretty similar teams. Not many chances created by either side. Think people need to realise that we are not better than Manutd; it was always going to be tough. In the end, we are unbeaten under Potter.

I would say it was a decent performance with how the game played out. Both teams were pressing and not much time was afforded to players until later in the game. I think we had some good chances, namely Aubameyang (twice) and Sterling when he refused to shoot.

I like the positivity of his changes through matches. He is not afraid to adjust the squad and doesn't seem to be worried about player's reactions to being subbed off.

It is going to take time. Some of our players just aren't good enough, particularly in the front line.
