Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

For me the biggest difference is that under Potter we don't need to have the ball all the time. There are clearly more risky forward passes being attempted, early long balls and so on. But the defence still sits so we haven't so far been that caught out with 10 players passing the ball to each other in the opposition half while the opposition works out how to do a breakaway. Attack early and hard and if it doesn't come off sit back and then do it again. Sure its not simple.

Not a fan of the turtle neck, but still better than Tuchel's cap and training gear. And nobody can beat our Italian managers on the style front of course.

Same formation, different results - people who were calling for a change in formation now realise it was the framework of that formation that was failing.

We can of course switch to a back 4, but I like potters approach, and I was for Tuchel to stay.

Formation has never been our problem under Tuchel.

Think this is something that will serve us well against lesser sides but the not so much against the best teams. It's a more basic style of football and easier for the players to execute you could say but one could argue it is a bit of a step back and brings us back to the more defensive styles of Mourinho and Conte.

I was thinking more of Vialli, Di Matteo en Conte  Difficult to unsee this now!

Unpopular opinion I know but I always liked that fact he clearly didnt give a f**k about what he wore 🙂

Very impressed with Potter so far. Football has been good and he carries himself well in interviews.

Got to hope these new owners will give him the time to build something like he did at Brighton, though.

Depends what he needs time for.

For the title sure but when it comes to top four he should be delivering immediately (and constantly).

I'd say he didn't give a feck until he managed Juve. He wore a suit for them!

he was forced by the juventus hierarchy

Quote

Sarri revealed: "I prefer not to wear a Juventus suit on the pitch.

"Off the pitch, when I represent Juventus, I am obliged to wear it and it is written in my contract.

"But on the pitch, I would prefer not to, but we will discuss it.

"The important thing, at my age, is they don't ask me to go naked."

He got away with it today. I don't want him experimenting with Sterling at wing back like Tuchel did with Pulisic, it's awful. If James isn't available, then play Loftus-Cheek or Azpi there.

I don't think it was the correct decision to play Aubameyang either. After an away game in Milan, and after playing so many games in a row, at the age of 33, surely the more sensible decision would be to play Broja. Broja deserves a start, and I thought today was the perfect opportunity for him. Giving him 5 minutes when a game is already dead is doing him a disservice.

One of Potters go to systems before he came to CFC was a 3-2-2-3 with no wing backs, people call it the box midfield.

I can understand why Potter has not tried it yet when you have James available, but i thought today Potter missed a trick by not going with 3-2-2-3.

He could of gone with

                          Kepa

       Trev        Silva        Kouli

              Jorgi      Kova

              RLC       Mason

Gallagher      Broja      Sterling

                          Kepa

       Trev        Silva        Cucu

              Jorgi      Kova

              RLC       Mason

  Havertz      Auba       Pulisic

                       Kepa

       Dave        Silva        Kouli

              Jorgi      Kova

         Gallagher    RLC

  Mount     Havertz      Pulisic

Plenty of options with the players we have to play with a front 3, but without James not many options for wing back systems.

James could play in midfield in that formation when he’s fit could he not?

Nope, always full backs, wing backs or wide two-way midfielders.

I don't think you can defend in 3223

       Trev        Silva        Cucu

              Jorgi      Kova

              RLC       Mason

  Havertz      Auba       Pulisic

Let's say yesterday against villa. Bailey is playing as rw who will defend him?

Don't get stuck on starting positions, Potter plays fluid formations. We do our best defending up the pitch. Out of possession RLC covers the right wing with Trev in behind, left wing Mason does the same job with Cucu, either way you still have three in midfield. With our wide forwards up the pitch we will always have a threat and teams will not be able to attack us down the wings without leaving themselves open.
