The OU  is a University . It ranks amongst the highest of universities.

It's degrees are accredited and employers recognise that students have to be organised and self motivated to work on their degrees.

Degrees.

It's definitely an achievement to get an degree whilst work or raising a family

Agree totally. Still not seeing the relevance in being able to beat an Arsenal team that are better in every position.

It wasn’t ranked the last time I checked but it seems to have gone up to 500th out of 1,662, so certainly not ‘amongst the highest’ as you describe but again.. fair enough. It is ranked with an asterisk in different formatting WUR on the QS leaderboard though.

Also, for the record.. a lot of people work-full time during uni and postgrad degrees, this is not something exclusive to The Open University, I should know.

I didn't know there were over 1,600 universities in the UK?. It's ranked high in the Uk. I'm not saying it's better or worse, I've always believer education in whatever subject is worthwhile.

Your full time job ? 8 hours a day , 5 days a week ? term time or in the breaks ?

Anyway, why is it even worth debating ?

God, the boring talk of Arsenal and Arteta everywhere is quite nauseating. I hope they return from the world cup, struggle to find form, lose a bunch of points, and drop out of the title race. The way the media bang on about them you'd think they've won the league already. It's bad enough hearing about City and Haaland all the time.

Only a week ago every pundits ( including our own Joe Cole) raving about what a great manager Potter is, and how he's so much better than Tuchel. 🤔 Look at us now, we were worse than when Tuchel was in charge, or even when Frank was here. I really hated his pre-game talk, it's a derby and 3 points to grab, fire up your own players instead of talking up the opposition ( that's the pundits job), and talk about how he needs  more time ( you are at Chelsea for god sake). I get it he doesn't throw players under the bus, but tell them they did a good job after today ( or last Saturday) is hardly motivational to the players.

Potter is in a similar position as Arteta was a couple years ago. Just have to wait and see if he comes good.

That's a good point. Hard to see too may positives after that sorry performance today and on the back of the Brighton hammering, but he needs time to evaluate the players amd make his own signings. maybe he CAN turn it around and do what Arteta has done at Arsenal. The cliche of having to suffer the lows to really enjoy and appreciate the highs is never truer. He will need a massive clear-out of this squad before the summer and then we might have a better idea of whether Potter can take us forward.

On the basis of today, I'm struggling to name players I would look to keep and persevere with beyond, James, Chilwell, Chalobah, Gallagher, Carney  & Broja. Have a few other youngsters  + Fofana and I love Silva but he cannot be expected to go on much longer, when we are looking to build for the future. For the first time I am having my doubts about Mount. Too many average performances - especially in the big games.

All in all, it's a f**king mess. Can just see us sliding down that table. No way are we making top 4 - this season is a write off already.

For me I want encouragement he has a good projected end product (although I fo maintain he shouldn't survive finishing outside the top 6 and 5th/6th should lead to a review).

I remember i used this analogy when people asked me why I wanted Lampard replaced come the end, if an artist is drawing me a panting that needs time and he tells me the end product will be Naples in sunset I'll be patient, if it's going to be Rafa Benitez naked then I'll confiscate his brush and get him blacklisted.

Patience is all well and good if the end product is something you want to see.

Well, 50th then.. not high ranking in the UK or anywhere and not part of the Russell Group. That’s without even mentioning the ranking is not meeting full eligibility to criteria hence it’s formatting, it’s in a grey area in terms of all that. He obtained his degree from the Open Uni and got his Masters from Leeds Metropolitan which funnily enough to this discussion, ranked 1,001 out of 1,600. As a guy heralded as ‘the most educated manager of all-time’, we need to read between the lines a bit here. At least Mourinho studied ‘Sports’ Science, whereas Potter has focused mainly on Social with his Masters in Leadership & Emotion.

Pep Guardiola has no accredited education outside of coaching badges but is there a manager better than him. So in fairness it’s all bullsh*t to the context this is being applied and we can only speculate how beneficial aspects of Potter’s education has been and how that’s going to save us.

FYI: I worked 37 hours a week 365 days, I’d be bringing two laptops to lectures multi-tasking for a company during 2nd and 3rd year and the same now in a Masters. Not to brag but purely for the rebuttal of the prior comment regarding the ‘mighty’ unique OU students who work full-time and have so much going on. It’s now a pointless debate in fairness, it stems back to a prior comment of a Masters degree “not being worth it”, hence I threw my hat in the arena and now we’re arguing over OU.

I like Potter and loved his football at Brighton, I really hope he brings that here eventually but jeez, his selections are awful. Truly awful and it’s not working out at all, he need to sort it out.

If he tries to persist with the same selection and wing backs, my patience will wear off quickly.  You say we were rubbish at attacking under Tuchel but we created so many chances, we just can’t bloody finish. Now we can’t even create a f*cking chance.

I have to say I dislike the players, they don’t give a f*ck, barely put in a shift today and didn’t really care.

He can win back the fans by putting Mount on the bench, Sterling, Havertz, Auba, Koulibaly, Mendy and Ziyech in the reserves and on the transfer list, and writing this seasons top 4 chase off while playing and developing Broja, Carney, Gallagher, Casadei and Hall. As well as any other youths that deserve a crack. At least then we will see real effort.

He could win us over by pissing off and letting Thiago take over as player manager. It’d be like the Hoddle era again.

Think Thaigo deserves way better than this to be his first managerial job, if he even wants that for his career.
