Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

For what it’s worth, I think Potter is a good manager, I really want him to do well here, but I just feel that he’s not a good fit for us.

The main problem I have with sacking him at the minute is that it feeds into this player power nonsense and teaches them yet again that they can just down tools and get the manager sacked, though I don’t think that is the case this time. It seems Potter has a good relationship with the players, which I hope would be ideal long term. The issue is there’s no guarantee that we will see this squad develop into a proper side under Potter, and the short term signs aren’t good.

I do believe that we need someone different as manager. While I like Potter, as I said before, I just don’t think he’s a good fit for us.

For what it's worth I think he is a relatively good manager. Relatively dependent on what club you're considering.

Good for Brighton and Swansea and Ostersund and his girls team. Not good for Chelsea.

It's not even like his win percentage record in Brighton was anything to particularly excite teams at the next level above Brighton. Wonder who cursed us and sent him our way.

Appointed 2 days after sacking someone like Tuchel. Probably Todd was just recovering from a bender

I think part of the reason self made people like Boehly get to where they are is because they care deeply about 60m. Yes he can afford to lose it but someone will pay deeply one way or another if he writes of $60 m pre tax. I agree he will hate having to acknowledge a mistake but another rule of business is that the past is irrelevant, its a sunk cost. Decisions should be made on the basis of future costs and benefits. Other than being regarded as a laughing stock in the British press, and no doubt by his competitors and "friends" the only reason to sack Potter now is if you believe he will make things a lot worse  for the next guy by destroying the club culture (winners) or ruining the player self belief. But in fact the good players will to a man stay good players and when things feel right they will show themselves for what they are. See ManU this season after many more than one bad seasons that they have had.

Yes, it's club's running cost, so of course it will impact the financials of the club, so writing off 60M or 6M should not be an easy call. However, that's exactly what Boehly should have thought about when he made the deal. Potter was on around 3M at Potter, let's say he's on 4M. WTF would ask for triple their pay and a 5 years contract for a job at a bigger club? I dare to say even Potter's accountant wouldn't ask for that much. It was Boehly and his people who wanted to make a statement by offering a deal of the life time. Now we are here we are, the financial cost due to poor on field results will be substantial, then you non-performing players who we can't get rid of, the cost all add up. It's a matter of cutting your lose, I'm sure Boehly has done that before.

Failed at Swansea and had two mediocre seasons and one good season at Brighton. Steve Cooper outperformed him at Swansea, Potter isn't even a 'relatively good' manager, he's average at best. The only job he did that was genuinely impressive was at Ostersund, and I'm pretty sure their owner got taken into custody for accounting violations.

For those who think we didn't score any goals under Tuchel last season ... here's a nice 25 minute compilation of all 122 of them ...

Suitable viewing for all ages ... 🙂

That was excellent.  I have tested positive for Covid today and it is flying through me at the moment.  That was a brilliant highlight to a sh*tty day so thanks.

It's interesting, you can see how Lukaku was a focal point of this team until that interview started to undermine Tuchel. We had pace, intensity and a directness in our attacking in the main.

Brighton he took over a team that played dull backs to the wall football and was on a trajectory for relegation (a team that had the type of results and performances they did in Hughton's last half of the season usually go down the following year, they totally collapsed).

When you're totally trying to overhaul a style of play even maintaining results is a good job. Example I'd give is Wigan, under Jewell and Bruce bar one season they were consistently mid table playing pretty basic football then Martinez came in to try and totally changed the style and they never finished above 16th, yet despite that it was considered he did a decent job with them.

I get it's time for him to go now and bar a miraculous turnaround will be in our all of fame for all the wrong reasons but he did more than a good job at Brighton.

He was on 1.75m basic at Brighton rising to 2m with bonuses. We went straight in at 12m for 5 years.

I do agree with you but I do feel also that the stars aligned a bit for him there. Bloom, passionate Brighton fan with a visible positive presence, Barber a shrewd businessman maximising profitability with a back room that was able to tap into a seam of talent from emerging markets. Potter with no real expectations other than to draw this all together.  Yet as good as they looked to the casual observer we have heard from those closer to week to week that there were sizeable periods of dross there.

It's a model that I think Boehly has tried to emulate but he has done it all arse backwards and tried to cover up the shortcomings by throwing eye-watering amounts of money around.

Of course the irony of all this is that the environment that we have now developed is the one that Tuchel wanted to work in anyway.

Pardew took Newcastle to 5th, Rodgers took Leicester to 5th twice, Moyes took West Ham to 6th and Everton to 4th, Dyche took Burnley to 7th, Potter didn't do a bad job at Brighton but finishing 9th with them really isn't anything special. Certainly not anything that would qualify him for the Chelsea job.

Ouch, got robbed daylight, and twice on the weekend. Basically, it's mess Boehly got himself ( and the club) into, he just need to find a clause or loophole to get us out.

It's such an incredible piece of tomfoolery that none of us can truly believe that a multi billion pound entrepreneurial executive could possibly be this naive without having a break clause.

Of course the longer it goes without Boehly pulling the ripcord you can only be left with the conclusion he has dug himself into a 60m hole.

And for anybody that thinks your average Chelsea fan favours English managers take a look at that lot.

Fck me what a rogue's gallery

Being pedantic, only 2 of those are English. Moyes is Scottish and Rodgers is from N. Ireland. But I get your point. I'd argue Dyche probably achieved the most of that bunch. 7th with Burnley is impressive given they had very limited transfer budget. Rodgers took Leicester to 5th but the core of that team won the league a few years earlier.

For anyone wondering, that emoticon is generally used as sarcasm. You know it’s bad when you have your player from previous club going against you. Jeez.

That's sarcasm? Could've fooled me tbf, looks genuine.

I'm not really on board with the new trends tbf, you might be right. I wouldn't have noticed anything cryptic there though.

I feel like he might actually be serious which is worse considering his poor performances.

So an emoticon showing half a head with a willy growing out of it means sarcasm?

It should not be difficult then to pursuade Cucurella to leave this summer. Good.

Potter's had Cucurella's back during his poor form after his house burglary so I'd very surprised if Cucurella is taking the piss on this one, and especially so considering their shared Brighton experience.

Social media eh ...  instagram used to be good when it was just about putting a few photos up, but it's almost on par with Twitter and Tiktok now in the race to the bottom ...

Luis Enrique?

Doesnt seem like the club learn and think through every potential appointment thoroughly. There’s only a few that can smash this team with discipline and ruthlessness. We needed an ETH or Guardiola. Someone who’s a bit psycho and fiery.

I’d like us to go for Zidane if not Tuchel back.
