Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

if 3 of the players are new, how can it be heavily ingrained in them?

Potter just doesn't know how to coach attacking football. Simple as

I would like to agree with you, but this has been going on for 4 seasons now it's hard to believe it's a coincidence.

Btw I've wanted Graham sacked since he got the job, never backed him, so I'm not in any way shape or form defending Potter here.

This is becoming unreal. No one, I mean no one, can manage a group of so talented players we have so poorly as Potter does. Is he doing it intentionally?

Anybody that thinks Potter still has a chance is deluding themselves.

There hasn't been a single improvement from us since the day he arrived. He's well out of his depth, should never have gotten the job and the new owners clearly don't know what they are doing if this was the coach they identified as the one to take us forward. They stick by him and we will get dragged into a relegation fight by the end of the season, no doubt about that now. It's bad enough not creating chances against teams around us or in the top ten, but to lose against the worst team in the league, at home and not even test the keeper again......just how much worse can we be?

The owners sabotaged a squad that wasn't as awful as they were making it out to be and put a bang average coach in charge. One of the biggest f**k ups I have ever seen at this level. If they don't swallow their pride and fix this, then we are in big trouble.

I reckon that they will stick with him, and we wont get dragged into a relegation fight.

Fancy a wager?  If we are dragged into a relegation fight, I will give a donation to £50 to the forum. If we don't get dragged into a relegation right, then you give a donation of £50 to the forum.

You say no doubt about it - so lets make it interesting....

What have we got to lose ? you tell me if you know the answer ? I know its not popular to back him at the moment, but were still in the CL and he deserves to at least finish that tourney.

You think he can win it at home one nil down? After we lost to the sh*ttiest team in the league 1-0 with no answers at all?

Am I in the twilight zone? We have to score at least 2 and we can't score against the sh*ttiest team in the league. Coco my brother, we are not winning that game with Potter in charge

Without the 10 points we had when they sacked tuchel , when we were 6th btw , we would be 4th from bottom

just let that sink in for a minute

it’s absolutely staggering

this is beyond belief

Is that based on all the other teams keeping whatever points they had up until the time Tuchel was sacked?

Ridiculed because we needed to see what happened.

I'm on the fence. I no longer think he's going to win us any titles, but I do think it might be better to let this team suffer until the end of the season.

I don't really know what the temp option is that would be better than just hammering home that Potter can't do this job and a new manager coming in fresh in May.

You don’t have to jump into a pool to know it is wet

The consequences of giving him time to let you see what happened is our team became so f**king bad in the last month and even new players are starting to underperform. Felix today is so bad compare to previous games, he is getting contaminated by the toxic tactics from Potter

Any Potter Stan here? Let me hear what kind of excuses you guys are going to give this week

Tbf i don't think any excuse would top the way you tried to justify our San Marino esque tactics in that game at Ethiad.

What is the definition of relegation fight then

Dropped into bottom 3 or within 5 points of 18th place is a big difference

Never heard of goal difference?

I would rather lose 1-0 than 6-0 like under Sarri, any day of the week

I know you want to back Potter and slag Tuchel but Potter is struggling to get the team to 40 points. We used to clear that by gameday 14~17.

Ditch this possession-obsessed football and someone get this team f**king scoring goals for the christ sakes.

What on earth are you talking about? Before we went behind, we had 47% possession at home against the bottom side in the league. Absolutely nothing we were trying today was close to trying to control the game by dominating possession.

Admittedly it's easy to say now that we have zero chance of winning or qualifying for anything, but I wouldn't [theoretically] have a problem writing off this season. We could hit the ground running in the summer filling the few gaps in the squad and jettisoning any unwanted players, then be in the position to have a good crack at the league without any European priorities and with a well-rehearsed gameplan, executed by a first XI who are now sufficiently familiar with each other. We've had a huge player turnover (and a lot of it seems good), but we are failing horribly at the gameplan and familiarity side.

The manager has (and has had) ample time to assess his squad, to identify areas for improvement and those who are surplus to requirements, and most importantly to coach a gameplan into the team. The biggest problem in my eyes is that we are seeing no evidence of the latter, or certainly no evidence of any consistent plan in buildup or in transition, and that is theoretically Potter's speciality. We need something more (on both counts) than giving the ball to Fernández, who then hits the ball over the opposition defence for Félix/Havertz/Mudryk to run onto, only for them to lose the ball because the players in possession or in support don't know what they're supposed to be doing.

I do agree with @g3.7's earlier post that we had been seeing something of an improvement (if not the results or an identifiable attacking style) over the past few games, but today was utterly horrendous. As I said earlier, I don't mind us writing off this season, but a pasting by Tottenham with no plan or improvement would probably be my final straw. If the coaching isn't having any effect, and Potter isn't capable of the kind of one-off game management that our great managers of the past two decades specialised in, then what is the point of him being here? Pathos?

Anyway

Would be better to have a new manager build for the next season than have Potter ruin our new signings even more. I'd take the fat Spanish waiter over him at this point

How do you class a ‘relegation fight’? Within 10 points of bottom three?  Our form since Graham came in has us fourth bottom , technically that is  a relegation fight?
BTW your even money bet is very poor value https://m.skybet.com/football/premier-league/event/29301810

Well, that's one worrying aspect, we can't even do it well anymore. But we did have 61% possession, which is to be expected against Southampton.

All the constant sideways passing and hogging the ball, the lack of direct passing. It's just not working out, we definitely need a big change in our football.

I think many of us don’t understand Potter’s tactics. We want to trick the opposite side by making them believe that we want to score, when we have a completely different plan. This is outsmarting the opponent, a more advanced football tactic,a psychological one. I can see why many people don’t understand it. If we have patience and judge him after his 5 year contract, then we can really see what Potter is made of. Until then, maybe we will meet Millwall next season.

If 3 of the 4 players are getting into bad habits, that is only because the manager allows it on the training ground.

I think it's pretty clear that Potter is following some Tuchel-Sarri template because there is zero identity of what Potter is trying to implement.

I don't know the answer. Only those above will know what to do. Unfortunately not getting 3 points from the bottom side at home is really poor. We have a good enough team there to beat them. Be nice if we could score goals ffs.

Well I'd certainly rather lose 6-0 and win 2-0 than lose 1-0 twice while barely leaving our half.

Like i said before, I just find it ironic you are preaching standards but in your last regular spell here you were going to all lengths possible trying to explain why setting up like San Marino was perfectly acceptable.

That I agree with, I just think it's a big problem we've had for 4 seasons now.
