Yes. He got away with one there. Hopefully Poch will remind of that when they review the game. Next time he may not be so lucky.

He won't, unless it happens in the fa cup in away game to a none PL side.

Biased, but I don't think that was a red card.  Poor tackle, but you have to watch it in full speed and not just the single freeze frame that the media points to.  I'd argue Guimaraes assault on Maatsan was more intentional serious foul play, which was only deemed a yellow, albeit consistent with the match officiating.

Caicedo is always going to give away a boat load of freekicks from his aggressive tackling style, often from the side or behind.  Part of what makes him who he is - although I do think he'll partner well with Lavia as it lets Caicedo get a little higher.

Since day 1 when he made those mistakes on his debut. Hasn't looked fit all season, he barely moves all game and seems to have his head in the clouds.

Very slow on the ball. Very slow off the ball. Very slow in the head. Presumably, things can only get better.

No improvement from previous games with us. Doesn’t sprint, doesn’t run into spaces, doesn’t track back very well, I’m really concerned.

At the time we were trying to buy him after one good season for Brighton at that price.

Ship has sailed. Let's take what we see and hope for the best.

Whilst a very crap team, they are young so there's hope. It's not a certainty they will come good but the hope is there at least unlike we had with a Drinkwater or Barkley.

Most of these players I won't say are better than those two I have specifically picked and reason is they were both very talented, at least in the case of Barkley, who never reached their potential and flattered to deceive.

Mikel was regularly slaughtered on these pages but Caicedo not fit to polish his boots.

I mean. he's a system player that will look fantastic in a system that suits him.

And if Poch has a system beside the occasional counter-attack and set-pieces then please enlighten me because I don't see it.

Caicedo's looked clueless since day 1 and he still looks clueless four months later.

He's going down the Cucurella route right now. Another player that looked marvellous in a very specific system but who fell through when all that changed at this club.

He’s not a DM so I’m not concerned. With lavia back now and hopefully fit he can do his wandering as a box to box.

Just to give some examples here. Typical Brighton pass map when Caicedo was brilliant for them:

Our passmap today:

Caicedo should be doing better individually but i'd take his performances over the managers because the latter is absolutely horrendous himself despite the occasional win. And his decisions and inability to set and drill a side and a system affects everyone.

Caicedo 5/5 on accurate long balls vs Palace, and 94.1% pass accuracy from 84 passes. Won 2 aerials - the most on the team tonight.

Gallagher 2/5 on accurate long balls, 88.2% on pass accuracy from 85 passes.

70 out of 79 passes sideways or backwards.

Perhaps there is just a disconnect again between directors and managers but if the plan with Caicedo was to use him as a sh*t version of Jorginho then we should prob just have kept Jorginho!

Gallagher still wiping the floor with him when you look across the season.

I’m not concerned about Caicedo. He’s a box to box player but Poch has been playing him as a defensive midfielder which doesn’t suit him really. Hopefully with Lavia return he’ll have more freedom and show more of his qualities.

He’ll be a brilliant player for us, we’re abit of a sh*t show at the minute and it’s affecting him and many players.

It’s times like now where we will see players who will drag us through tough times, become the backbone of team and so far that’s Palmer and Thiago Silva.

Weird example to choose after the game we all watched. One was embarrassing, one gave it all.

on the flip side:

Caicedo: Zero key passes, zero big chances created, zero shots, one dribble attempted etc.

Gallagher: Two key passes, one big chance created, also zero shots, 3 dribbles attempted etc.

we can all nit-pick random stats but we just watched Caicedo drop another Bakayoko-esque performance.

I'm merely making the point that he wasn't as bad as many of you are making out on the match thread.

I can think of at least six players on our team who were worse than he was this evening.

You're embarrassing yourself by comparing him to Bakayoko.

I'm one of those that can't just forget how much his price tag was so if you ask me he's not doing well enough (Now someone will say how that doesn't matter and that we should all forget just how much we paid for him) but he's doing a better job at that role as our anchor than Kante ever did so there is that...

Much like Enzo, Caicedo is fantastic for the national side.

He’s doing fine for me atm, but still far from his very best. Don’t know what the deal is.

Thank the lord for Sconnie. I’ve just scrolled through this thread scratching my head at the bullets he’s taking.

I get he hasn’t set the world on fire like some who only look at price tags would expect but I think he’s been a solid addition.

Alright f**k me he passes sideways more than Gallagher, you tend to find that one does and one doesn’t in a midfield.

New scapegoat to blame every week for this fanbase.. I still believe that had we scored the sitters we have missed we would be fine and this midfield will be more expansive..

I don’t think people are understanding how the pressure is affecting this team’s ability to play freely and without risks .. compare our performance to earlier in the season- we were wiping the floor with teams like pool and West Ham but just couldn’t take our chances..

wins wins - goal goals they will improve everything for us.

Lavia came on and made more passes into the final third in just half an hour. Looking at it objectively, our best midfield pivot doesn’t include either of the £100m+ men.

we can say the price tag isn’t his fault but he should be able to offer more than what any £20m signing would.

He also gave the ball away as many times in 30 minutes as Caicedo did in the whole game.

But you probably don't think that is important.

He also came on and completed 81% of his passes compared to Caicedos 94.5.

He made 0 successful tackles compared to Caicedo's 2.

He didn't win an ariel duel compared to Caicedo's 1.

He won 2 ground duels compared to Caicedos 9.

Based on me cherry picking stats like you have, looks like Caicedo was more than able to contribute the same if not more than a £58 million pound signing did.

It's almost like different players are expected to do different things, even when playing the same position.
