Prior to our last match vs Brighton.

"Mauricio Pochettino has had a conversation with Moises Caicedo just before the club’s final press conference before their clash against Brighton. Moreover, the coach wanted to lift the pressure of the youngster’s head of living upto other’s expectations. The coach believes that only talent is not enough for a good performance. A player needs to be fit both mentally and physically in order to perform at higher levels."

That all looks a bit half arsed and click baity to me.

I don't see the word "poor" anywhere, or any actual sources for said conversation, and I highly doubt Poch rang these twitter journalists to tell them all about it either LOL

Our situation is different from the two clubs you mentioned had those clubs been sanctioned been put through the sh*t for the last two years then maybe comparing them would work but we are in a unique situation and the fact we are still competing is a surprise in itself.
We almost got out out of business by the UK Government, which other club has even come close to that.

I think fans really underestimate how much we have changed in two years it’s like a completely new club

Yeah, good points. But the only things that changed was the club became debt free and we had new owners.  And the manager was sacked , loads of transfers in and out. Then the next manager got sacked, then loads of transfers.

So basically you're spot on !

Amazed at how he didn’t get sent off. Deserved to. Ridiculous giving away fouls like that on a yellow.

Aparently, Caicedo did not receive a yellow. It would have been extremely soft to show him the card for dissenting from the decision by raising his arm. So he wasn't on a yellow at any point.

I don't think we were willing to spend near 60mill on Lavia for him to not be part of the plans.

When he us fit, and if he stays fit, I believe Pochettino has a plan for a midfield 3 of him, Enzo and Caicedo.

That plan will involve Nkunku as well. How he gets them all to work I am not sure. I believe Nkunku often operated as a left sided forward that was allowed to roam infield at RBL, that may be where Poch sees him.

Caicedo

Lavia

Enzo

Palmer/Sterling

New striker/Jackson

Nkunku

Pochettino wants to play out from the back and dominate midfield. I think Lavia will be a key player, and Conor will lose his spot.

Still don't see any mention of the word "poor" anywhere.

If Caicedo was poor he wouldn't keep getting picked when he's not 100%.

With Caicedo starting this season we are won 6 drawn 2 lost 3. When he doesn't start we are won 2 drawn 2 lost 2.

Off the ball he's still a bit away from his Brighton self but on it in the build up he's been superb, he's probably the best "traditional" DM around in possesion save for Rodri.

I apologize for my, poor wording...

He's really not in a good form, we don't need to call it poor if you don't like it but if everything was great Poch wouldn't have the need to privately talk with him. Him starting or not doesn't really matter, I have learned that after spending a lot of time in the Jorginho thread as others have explained it to me... I know that Caicedo should be playing regardless but for the sake of your own argument it's not like we have plenty of options there otherwise.

My problem is that so far we haven't seen him being as influential as a top player should be and he even has Enzo doing everything for us while we have possession and Gallagher doing a lot of the dirty work as well.

To say that he should be doing a lot better as someone that has already been ranked as one of the best in the league at that position is only normal. So let's see how we do at Old Trafford, it should be a great opportunity for him to make his mark.

The problem with that midfield is at least one of them will have to step up with 10 goals a season. Maybe Lavia releases Enzo to be that player?

Enzo isn’t getting 10 goals, won’t happen.

Lavia like every other signing was a board signing so there was nothing Pochettino could do about it. I can’t see Pochettino switching away from the 4-2-3-1 he has used all season long just because he has Lavia fit. He will along with Ugochukwu be in competition for one of the positions sitting deep in a mid 2.

I don't know how Lavia will fit in the first 11 if everyone is fit, so maybe he's signed as a backup for the 2 100M MFs. But with our injury record in the last 18 months, we rarely have all 22 outfield players available, if ever.

Quite.

Pochettino on Caicedo: "His position in the spine of the team is very important. We need him to start performing like we expect, but at the same time, we need to understand he is building towards his best moment. It’s tough for him, but it’s tough for everyone. The expectation is different, the badge is different, the context is different. It’s about time to fit in and to start to perform. That is why we have no doubt it is only time."

Lads, there is the entire Pochettino remark on Caicedo.

Interpret it how you want but clearly he doesn't think he's performed like expected so far.

I would be massively concerned if Pochettino thought he was performing up to standard.

But that's probably best what can be said, correct criticism and encouraging words, the sooner the better.

Thank you for pointing it out as well.

Spent about 100m too much.

I like Caicedo,  think he'll eventually be a good player for us but he's one of the worst signing in the sports history from a talent perspective.  I was celebrating when Liverpool outbid us and felt sick when we came back in

He simply doesn't have the talent to justify half the price tag.

Haven’t seen anything to suggest he was worth more than 25million, to be honest Denis zakaria impressed me more when he was here. Fouls constantly and got the absolute run around tonight.

Looks completely clueless. And I mean that literally.

And that falls entirely on the manager because there are zero excuses for your teams to be as unorganized as we are even after a month, nevermind five!!

I agree to an extent, there was gaps all over and the shape was awful, but come on Pochetino can’t make him do simple touches/passes/tackles.

I mean I already knew defensively he wasn't exactly steady but his strengths which is passing and ball retention where also non-existent today. Horrid performance.
