To be fair to Bob, he'd go like "You bring Rice, now how do you want him to play? Who feeds Mudryck?"

December 15, 20232 yr I'd caution that if Rice had joined us he'd be struggling in this misfiring team as well. Same thought applies to Mudryk had Arsenal signed him - I think his progression would be futher along. Stay patient, Caicedo will come good.

December 16, 20232 yr Good performance today, it's made me realise and accept that he is not really a DM. He is much better as a box to box. t's understandable now why we also purchased Lavia as I think going forward the ideal lineup was meant to be Lavia Caicedo and Enzo.

He's pretty much a similar player to Kante, Caicedo himself has said he models his game after him. Kante was never a DM despite how many times people liked to say he was, managers just happened to put him there as a makeshift DM but he was always at his best when he played further up and intercepted and broke up opposition's play. We need to use Caicedo in a similar manner.

Exactly why we purchased Lavia, even Lavia said he’s a DM his job is to protect his defensive live. Caicedo is more of a Kante than he is a Maka so I too expect that same midfield 3 with Gallagher dropping out and a front 3 of Palmer, Sterling and Nkunku.

Wouldn't be surprised if in the bigger games he plays off the left with Lavia as a DM then in games like today he plays as the 10 with Mudryk/Sterling on the left. Although if we don't sign striker this January I'd have Nkunku as our 9 for the rest of the season which is a little bit of a waste of his other talents but Jackson and Broja just aren't good enough to lead the line.
December 16, 20232 yr Not sure Lavia is this DM you lot think he is. 43 minutes ago, timetowaste said: Wouldn't be surprised if in the bigger games he plays off the left with Lavia as a DM then in games like today he plays as the 10 with Mudryk/Sterling on the left. Wasted anywhere other than CAM imo.
December 16, 20232 yr Kante was immense for us but struggled when the team wasn’t playing well. Caicedo is the same. He’s a very good player who will do well for us. I’ve no doubts about that. To hear people say they don’t rate him is bizarre. We are where we are and we should absolutely expect inconsistency in team and individual performances for probably the rest of the season. I’ve watched us dominate possession for almost every game this season which shows me the ability is there. Confidence and experience is what’s missing so far. I honestly believe we are a keeper and a striker away from challenging next season. I’m aware most will think I’m off my head but that’s how i see it. Too many of the new players thought they just needed to turn up to beat the Forests and Evertons of the league. They now know they need to be at it every week.
December 16, 20232 yr Played well today. Plays very safe, and when he opens up has more to offer. Keep going!
December 16, 20232 yr Author Maybe this is why we are looking to sell Conor. Him and Caicedo are just too similar.

Long term I am still not sure how Caicedo who is ideally a B2B midfielder works with Enzo who we want to play as a DLM works if Enzo doesn’t want to sit in the centre of the park. Even assuming Lavia sits as the DM we would be far too exposed if 1 of the other 2 can’t exercise restraint.

Agreed on your first point and a huge amount of pressure on a kid sign from a relegated club, learning the game and still not kicked a ball for us. In hindsight for this type of player and for the balance of the side Onana from Everton, who many on here wanted us to sign, may well have been a better fit.
December 17, 20232 yr I think it was his best game for us yesterday. Actually he put himself into the game, good defensive actions, covering the area in right time, no stupid fouls and good in possession.
December 17, 20232 yr It was not a bad game at all from him but the praises irritate me a bit. Mostly he is hiding, playing it very safe but he did have some good defensive contributions. I just expect a bit more of him.

A defensive distributor ala Rodri or another Enzo? Imo he should be playing safe, although I disagree with you that he was hiding. He must have been top three in toucher and passes, at least.
December 19, 20232 yr Could of got a red in the first couple of minutes but kept out of trouble and was the best player tonight IMO. Much more like his Brighton form, box to box midfielder is his best role.

December 19, 20232 yr Quietly getting on with the job, he will be absolutely immense for us going forward as we rebuild!!
December 20, 20232 yr Author He had a very good game. However with VAR he is sent off after 2 minutes, and rightly so.
