Well publicized each pushed for the respective player. Yes, everyone buy their wonder kids at premium price, and leave the selection problems to the manager. Not having a go at Ugochukwu, but Santos could perform that role too of some cameos and odd starts

January 3, 20242 yr I assume he will go out on loan to another team second half of the season. Hopefully the next loan works out better.

We should recall DD fofana from his useless loan and let Santos go to Strasbourg. At least then we know he gets games.

If the stats I just looked at are correct , Charlie has had only 100 mins of playing time so far this season. Some development the lad is getting over there in Holland
January 3, 20242 yr Might as well stay with all the injuries and could give poch more options if he wants to play with 3 midfielders.

It not a one sided transaction though is it? Its the exact reason a loan market exists, we have players that need game time and another club needs players but can't afford to purchase the quality that they need. There needs to be a huge amount of accountability on those decided where we loan the players but it seems odd that clubs would take on a loan if they have no interest in giving the player a chance.
January 4, 20242 yr Loans have always been hit or miss. It is one thing sending out academy prospects on loan for some first team experience. But that is now complicated with our policy of signing so many raw, young players, aligned with the limitations on the amount of loans allowed. In future I am not sure it is going to be possible to give so many of these young players adequate playing time, while keeping them on our books. Most likely we will need to incorporate some of these players into our youth setup instead e.g. u21 competitions. It remains to be seen whether many of these young South American players will make it with us, but history suggests that most will not.

January 5, 20242 yr We have so n my many out on loan it must be impossible to monitor correctly. If we loan players that cost 9 figures combined then we should be seriously vetting the clubs we send them to. From our perspective game time must be one of our priorities for our loanees. Santos should have went to a Chsmpionship club considering his experience, or lack of, first team football in Brazil. Scotland too should be a league Chelsea consider blooding young players into first team football. The quality isn’t anything recognisable compared to the EPL but it’s nowhere near as bad as people in England think. Plenty of successes in the recent past. Maddison would probably be the best example. The pace of the game in Scotland is also quicker than the continent which helps getting them ready for the EPL. I think the pace of a premier league game is one of the hardest aspects of the game to get to grips with for young players from Europe and beyond. We are heavily dependent on the clubs we loan players to actually playing them. If they don’t then what’s the point? Asking Santos to come over here and command a first team place in the EPL immediately is madness when he’d only played a handful of first team games in Brazil. Either of the ugly sisters up here would have taken him I reckon and given him game time with European football too. Maybe a club like Forest the year after before being ready to challenge at Chelsea. So many of our loanees go to clubs and don’t play. That’s got to change.

With all due respect, it's not difficult to assign a scout to each loanee. The problem has always been sending players to the wrong clubs. I remember complaining about this almost 10 years ago. I wouldn't have sent Santos to any club in England, priority should have been Portugal, but if I recall correctly we seem to allow players to choose where they want to go which explains some of the failed loans. Isn't there a limit on foreign loans now? Pretty sure failing to sell Lukaku/Ziyech and loaning them abroad limited our options. The bigger concern is that Santos couldn't force his way into that bang average Forest midfield in the form they were in under Cooper.

Why did we loan out Charlie Webster to Holland when we were already planning, I assume, on bringing in more foreign players and sorting out their loans. Even if the club assumed someone would take Lukaku and Ziyech, it would have been prudent to sort them out first before limiting yourself to foreign loans. Santos just had one season in Brazil, how did the club expect him to get into a relegation fighting team. Especially when they were already signing so many players.
January 5, 20242 yr Might need him to stick around with both Lesley and Romeo out for 6 weeks. Which in Chrlsea terms means 3 months.
