Andrey Santos Signs for Chelsea

Casadei is here fit and ready and isn’t playing. What makes you think Santos will?

The Santos situation is a beacon call of the poor decision making by this club for me. Prior to Paez, Santos was the golden one from South America. Playing for the national first team, looking the real deal. Big enough, strong enough to make the first team squad now.

Then goes on loan to Nottingham Forest and doesn't get a game under two different managers.  Comes back and then goes out on loan to a league barely above the Scottish Premiership in standard (if at all) to our own owned club and he still doesn't play.

Meanwhile, will a player like Billy Gee, Harrison McMahon, Leo Castledine, Michael Golding etc, end up getting released without getting a real chance simply because of the money invested in a player with nothing to warrant the hype except exposure from playing in a dramatically inferior league

If Lesly didn’t play, neither would Santos. Not even playing at Strasbourg apparently.

Lesly made a couple of cameos there and there. I just want a midfielder on the bench to give Enzo or Caicedo a break from time to time. Enzo has almost played every game for Benifica, Argentina and Chelsea for 2 years now.

This was my issue of signing youngsters who had no first team football minutes. Add Washington to that. Both almost (£40m) combined. There’s also Casadei who we bought on a significant sum with no first team minutes.

Angelo is the only smart purchase given his first team exposure, and it’s hardly surprising he’s having the best loan spell.

It’s crazy considering we would have had Toney for 60 mil and we wasted this on positions we were already covered for and unknown players who weren’t even cheap.

No minutes for Strasbourg again. You’d think they were under some kind of pressure to play him, but doesn’t seem like it. On a brighter note, Vieira has to be sacked soon so heres hoping the new manager takes a liking to him

Doesn’t look good though does it, one of the best defensive midfielders in PL era and he doesn’t like Santos.

Surely he would play more often if Vieira sees the talent.

It's not about the talent but about people skills. You can't treat a talented kid like this.

Huh?

Had he known how our club would treat him he wouldn't have signed in the first place. You take him to pre-season and then ditch him for no reason. He clearly has the talent but it's being wasted, clubs that actually want a young talent to succeed don't do this kind of move.

Why does he clearly have the talent. What is clear. He doesn't play football,  anywhere.

Agreed. He has done well in Brazilian under 20 team, and showed some promise in the 1 season he played in Brazilian league. But many other players have done the same and failed to make it. Historically most young players we have signed from the Brazilian league have failed to make it. I doubt the odds will change much with the latest batch.

He's a 19 year old that has moved from Brazil to the UK, London, then to Nottingham and next to Strasbourg in France. Not sure how can anyone expect him to be settled and playing to his best. He needs some stability, learning the languages and uses of the new place, before he can relax and start playing football. Moving around every 3-4 months is definitely not the way to do it.

He was playing in Brazil 2nd division before coming here.

So was Martinelli, what's your point?

Either he's a talented player and we've messed up his early development already or we have wasted another 15-20m on someone that was never that good to begin with.

Looks like its the same situation as Forest. Strasbourg are battling relegation and want to rely on experience.

I've been on the fence so far with our ownership but day after day I am finding more reasons to dislike them.

I imagine if you invest millions into a young talent that it would be natural to try and protect the youngster and to actually do what is the best for him and for your investment, our club didn't do anything close to that by sending him to Forest.

Hutchinson, Angelo, and what now looks like Fofana are the only ones who have had good loan spells.  Slonina and Humphreys are hardly making any noise at their clubs.

With the new bloke we brought in back in January, we need to see an improvement on where we send our players because Santos, Casadei, and Washington wasting a year is unacceptable.

The same Vieira who was reluctant to start Eze and Olise together at Palace? Hastening his demise.

Ehhh he had good games but Leicester fans didnt really like him

We've literally had one on this forum tell us he liked him and he wished he'd stayed at their club.

Think the ex-Forest manager was right on the money, why would they ( a struggling team) helps Chelsea to develop a young player?  If he's one of their own, sure they will take a few chances and help him to progress. As a loan player, you are either too good for the team that you get picked by default, or nobody at the club really cares. Just to show this whole ' we will buy everyone and let others train them' approach is flawed. In future, maybe let Strasbourg buy these wonder kids, and we just get a first go at buying them if they turn out to be great.

Not to mention the Leicester manager liked him and had planned to keep giving him regular minutes.
