Market has changed though; unless you find a PL buyer for a £100k/w flop, he will sit out the remaining 5yrs. The Saudi exit is done, Bundesliga won’t touch it, Serie A love a loan deal and bar the 3 top teams in La Liga.

There was a brazilian guy on here a few years ago, a huge vasco fan. I had a video call with him (yes Val, I put on some clothes for the call) - as I promised to buy him a chelsea shirt with Santos name on it, in return he wanted to send my son a vasco shirt... and then he dissapeared.

I never did buy him the shirt coz he left... that makes me a sad panda.

Anyway - he watched vasco weekly, and said Santos was the real deal - and destined for greatness.

Come on Blueco - dont be stupid(er). The guy is far more reliable than Lavia.

Have you watched much of Barco? I’ve watched around half a dozen games of his and I think he’s a very good player who will get plenty of minutes. I think Alonso will rate him as he ticks boxes that his midfield at Bayer did too.

Just looking for another perspective I suppose.

Yes, seen him at Strasbourg and the 6 appearances he made at Brighton. We are still yet to see if he is physically capable of playing in the PL on a consistent basis.

I don't think you want to invest in expensive midfielders when you already have two very expensive midfielders plus Lavia.

Enzo vs Lavia, the one that you really want to move is Lavia but good luck selling him.

I think it's too early to give up on Santos. He's been a bit hit and miss, but he was one of the only midfielders last season who dared pass the ball forwards quickly, instead of sideways. I think he could end up being a good player for Alonso, if we give him a chance. I'd much rather get rid of the sicknotes like Lavia and Essugo.

He’s one of the players that’s not for sale under any circumstances for me. Indeed I’m very disappointed to see the rumours of him leaving. We’ll definitely regret it when he becomes an elite player.

Absolutely insane if we sell him, he is obviously a high quality young player that is only going to get better, exactly the kind of player we need in the squad.

If Alonso wants another experienced midfielder our finances dictate it will be one in one out. If they want to sell a midfielder, Santos is the only one that will attract any offers.

No chance we get any club coming in for the sick notes Lavia or Essugo, Enzo seems to have been for sale for several months now at a ridiculous price and no takers as a result (nor anyone interested enough to even try and negotiate on the fee), and Caicedo they've got in the "untouchable" bracket.

The Xhaka move is definitely off, so no idea what we are trying to do. Still don’t understand why they bought Essugo; we bought Amougu in Jan, sold him in the summer to sign Essugo. He was profiled by Maresca as backup to Caicedo which is just brainless IMO.

Told you. They'll sell their own mother if you pay them enough.

So we are going to rely on Lavia who is made of glass, Barco who's last run in the Premier League wasn't great and wasn't as good as Santos in Ligue 1, and Essugo who is a complete mystery.

Looks like we are looking to replace him with another midfielder though hence the Xhaka bid.
