Man City 11 vs Chelsea 11

Featured Replies

Danny Murphy says our 11 is nowhere near as good as cities, and we are massively overpaying for players. Second part may well be true but is Cities 11 that much better than:

Kepa

James

Silva

Badiashile

Chilwell

Kante

Fernandez

Madueke

Felix

Mudryk

Nkunku

Maybe is Blue tinted specs but only KDB, Ederson,  Diaz and Haaland for sure force their way in to that side. Argument for Silva and Rodri as well.

But certainly not as cut and dry as Muppet Murphy makes out.

Thoughts?

It's a topic that annoys me massively.

Danny Murphy says that we won't win the league next year because none of our players would get in City's.

Simple question for Danny. Last July how many of Arsenals players would you have said get in the city team? It would 100% be zero. Because you don't win the title based on the history.

If they were available, James, Mudryk, Enzo, Badiashille, Chilwell, Gusto, would all be signed by Pep. His team are aging, falling out with each other and he's got a lump up front in Haaland who can score goals for fun but makes them worse in the league.

Who would I sign from City if they were all available? Ederson and Rodri. No one else.

Does he make them worse in the league? If it was Ronaldo I would agree but Haaland I'm not so sure. De Bruyne is only 31 going on 32 and probably still has a decent value and would get in our team, we signed Ballack at about the same age. Still it's really the Haaland view thats of interest.

Might also ask who from the Arsenal team would make our team? My answer might be Arteta. But the point is it's partly the players and partly the team. We might have the players now but we haven't yet proved we've got a team.

Citys players are better, you cant start comparing players just because they are signed for 106m against top players with seasoned premier league experience like Silva, Rodri, Gundagon and world class KDB. Let's be honest the majority dont have a clue about Fernandez who's only played a handful of games. Also guys who have played 60mins, 40mins against Mahrez, Foden and Haaland. You need to give players alot long before you make comparisons and not be so defensive when a pundit  has a point of view which at this moment is likely true. Chelsea are young and fresh and looking to the future plus the difference in keepers is night and day.

The three who get in Citys team are Chillwell and James and that's because Cancelo has left and now Pep plays a different way with his fullbacks, also Silva.

If we talk about current season then I might agree with him, we're behind City in every matter of process , team development and organization. But next season it all can be different.

Just like everyone mentioned Arsenal of this season, in the beginning of the season, nobody really though that Arsenal will challenge for the title with their current squad. It's all depends on how we're going to use the squad, what is our philosophy in the game and of course how strong mentally we're going to be.

We have a young and talented squad, I truly believe that this season we still can fight for Europe and we also play in the CL which might give us some benefits about the players.

Boehly gave us everything we wanted, now it's the time to show what the money went for. I feel little overpriced about all the transfers, but if next season we will challange for all the titles then it's all legit.

Short plan we're behind City, in long term plan we can overplay them and return to be monsters of the league. I'm positive about this.

Haaland - bit of a throwaway comment, but my opinion is strikers like Haaland can end up sucking all the creativity from a team. So whilst he can "win games on his own" it means that on the occasion he can't, the team is more likely to drop points. In the PL, dropping points is criminal. It's more a theory, but it's how I sleep at night.

Arsenal? I'd wager Saliba, Odegaard, Martinelli Saka and Ramsdale would probably get in our team. But none of them are that much better than what we have now/could have when players settle in.

The only thing he is right about is that yes we have massively overpaid.

Enzo and Noni yeah. But maybe the latter surprises everyone and we very clearly couldn't get either of them cheaper. And we couldn't get either type of profile at their level cheaper despite Danny saying we could have paid half for someone just as good (glad Jordan called him out on that).

Mudryk, Badiashille, Andrey Santos, Gusto no. Those were fair, I'd even say great prices for them.

Last 25 minutes against Arsenal in the cup their keeper was just hitting long balls to him.

You have to look at the bigger picture.

Bitter ex-player, lost all his savings to gambling, drugs and alcohol, lost his marriage, lost his home.

Chelsea spend over half a billion £ on players with huge contracts making them all financially secure forever.

I think we are closing the gap and will be still 2-3 players light to challenge.

A top a keeper for example.

Yet we are moving in the right direction.

City look weaker this season, the Cancelo fall-out, embedding Haaland and previously fringe players like Ake, Mahrez and Grealish are being given more playing time.

KDB had a poor WC and maybe will a poor season on the league too, it can happen.

When fit there is no way Kante does not get in their side.

No one knows what Kante will be like if he ever returns, the injuries might have just taken its toll.

First of all WTF care what Murphy says, second of all we aren't going to compete for the title next year, thirdly City isn't even leading the league right now. Of course City have a better team, we spent lots of money but it's not like we poached the best available players  to make up the perfect team. City on the other hand is almost there as the perfect team after years of reinforcement, apart from their league form hasn't showed that.

Funny that Partey and Casemiro totally transformed Arsenal and United. Almost like solid defensive midfielders are superior to registas...

Also Murphy is right about us overpaying massively for players, but the comparison with City's 11 misses the most part. The difference between who is sitting on the bench and that the City 11 is tailored to what he wanted in the squad.

If I were doing a joint 11 and everyone was fully fit it'd be something like this, there's a few very narrow decisions but even if they were to go City's way it shows what bollocks Murphy is talking.

And if he didnt get into the first team, he would wait until all the rest of the players were asleep, force himself into the team, leaving them unconscious,  and then go out partying in Ibiza before they woke up.... allegedly.

We can't really know for sure because we don't really know how good all of these signings are going to be. They could all turn out to be flops, they could all be amazing, we just don't know. Any pundit that says differently is just talking out of their ass, because I don't believe for a second that anybody has had the time to watch all of these players that we have signed.

If we were to talk about before the transfer window, I do think a decent amount of our players are better than theirs.

I would pick James, Chilwell and Silva over all of their defenders, especially now that Cancelo is gone. CM is interesting because a fit Kante isn't getting dropped for anybody. So if I was to do a 11vs11 from before we signed all of these players, it would look like this

Ederson

James Dias  Silva Chilwell

Rodri Kante

De Bruyne

Mahrez Haaland Foden

No point talking about players that are not currently available. Kante hasn't played for long and I am not sure when he returns, what kind of player we are going to see.

We obviously don't have players that can match KDB, Bernardo, Mahrez and Haaland.

At the same time, they don't have a Mudryk. Most of their players are slow comparatively.

And then there's the GK thing. Both of our Gk keeps making silly mistakes every now and then.

I admire the blue tinted specs on this thread...

But, there is a reason City have finished ahead of us in the league, every year for the last five years...

we only have two world class players in our squad. James and Kante, only when both are fit. The injection of cash into our squad is very much needed and I hope our signings go on to take us back to title success. fingers crossed 600 million translates into a squad for the next decade.

Small problem with that, Partey is a regista. (Apologies for the links to Gooner sites).

"He’s also integral to our build up, relieves pressure with his elite receiving of the ball and creates attacks with a fantastic dribbling ability and quality passing range."
