There weren't many occasions last season in games we've won where we the other team didn't look like they were going to equalise. You will see way more control with Maresca. Lots said about his possession style but he also knows how to set up a defence. I watch lots of Chelsea games anyway but I will have a special interest from now on.

What are your thoughts on him? Do you think Maresca would want us to buy him to be his main forward here. Given your PSR issues I imagine every players has his price.

Only reason we had a handful of decent defensive displays was Sliva leadership and organization, and Trev following suit. Disasi and Badiashile could not organize a pi$$ up in the Irish pub...

I'm definitely in a minority but I love a good defence, I miss the fortress even if most prefer the "exciting" football, a well organised defence does it for me. The discipline and putting feet, head and heart on the line can't be underestimated. And yep I'm in the grp of control and displine (all 1-0 wins) over chaos. Edited May 31, 20242 yr by Simplymo

Patson Daka really didn't fit the Maresca mould for a centre forward. He did get a run but didn't play a lot as the season progressed. Maresca likes a CF who can hold the ball up and Daka has the touch of a blacksmith. Leicester will almost certainly sell him but he's not good enough for you.

Jackson can hold the ball and with 1 season under his belt he will hopefully convert more missed chances. Not that his finally tally of goals and assists last season was bad, far from it...he did amazingly well for his first season in a new country and a new team. We just need someone to push him and maybe teach him the stuff he missed by not being an academy kid. Someone to get the street football rules and bad habits out of him.

May 31, 20242 yr I've said on here before that Brighton's " bait the press" tactic would make me a nervous wreck if we played that way. Now I've seen a video and an article that both say that Enzo Maresca likes his team to use that very tactic!

What he has achieved at Ipswich is phenomenal. They were going nowhere under previous managers and he has won them back to back promotions and has them in PL AND playing a decent brand of football. For me, he looked the much better appointment but that said and done, it's refreshing in this day & age how he has committed his future to Ipswich and good luck to him and them. No doubt he will move on at some point (probably to United due to the connections etc), but happy for Ipswich supporters who must have been fearing the worst. So will just have to get behind Maresca and hope he surprises us. I thought the job was too early for McKenna, but out of the two I would've gone for McKenna all the way. I don't want to be extremely negative but I can't lie here when I say we've made a terrible decision.

I'll be amazed if he sees it through. Tough times when I don't expect anything positive. If he gets past two years I eat a pineapple pizza with extra apple toppings🤮 The 🤡🤡 show will continue, we are 🎪
June 1, 20242 yr It’s all gone quiet over here, was expecting the deal to be done and dusted today, probably the Trump verdict has distracted Todd & company from ‘closing the deal’ a la the Ginger MAGAT. Found this vid from last season on the pending appointee, seems he has a BIG Pep 😻 So much so he went from a long haired fisherman to the baldy with a beard we all (now) know today (slight dramatic license taken there 😅)
June 1, 20242 yr Maatsen playing as the inverted left back in the CL final.... Maresca looking at the match thinking this lad we need.

Only thing standing in the way of his permanent transfer to Dortmund is the buy out clause rumored to be anything as much as 35 mill quid , if they activate clause and stump up the dosh he’s a goner.

They're pleading poverty. The club that sold Sancho, Haaland and Bellingham for over £200m and get 80k fans every week are saying they can't afford £35m for a 22 year old CL starting wing back. Dortmund can pay up or go f**k themselves.

Maatsen’s father was pretty adamant he was leaving Chelsea but if he comes back and plays I’m sure all will be forgiven. Thought he did alright tonight up against Rodrygo but made some bad mistakes for the goals.
