June 3, 20242 yr I'm quite happy with this appointment, mainly because it's pissed of loads of "fans"..

As Leicester manager he even said that if the fans or club weren't happy with his philosophy then he would walk, as his philosophy is the most important thing of all. His style would have failed in the upcoming season had he remained at Leicester, as we simply didn't / don't have the players required to implement it at a higher level. However, I could see it working at Chelsea. At least in as far as being more competitive than you have in recent seasons. He did improve a number of our players, or at the very least, allowed them to play in a way which maximised their strengths. Expect to see lots of passing (an insane amount of passing) looking to draw the opposition into a press and then quickly playing through that press. You'll have two number 8's that are underlapping the wingers and receiving balls on the move in the box. He managed to make Ndidi look hugely accomplished at running late into the box and causing chaos, which is something none of us thought he was capable of. He also likes to allow some freedom of choice in his attacking players, and to get wingers one vs one, so that they can run at the defender and cut inside. Both Mavididi and Fatawu scored bags of goals this season as a result of that. In general though, his in game management left a lot to be desired and he only ever replaced like to like and the system stayed the same. Where we really struggled was up against teams that chose not to press. His style is based on creating overloads in Midfield and the attacking third. So if teams don't press, then it's difficult to unlock defences as we tended to pass the ball back out to midfield or even the defenders, to try and again encourage a press. It's not an exciting style of football. But it is pragmatic and it will likely pick up a healthy number of points for you. don't expect barnstorming performances that have you all on the edge of your seat. you won't have that at all. Enzo states that he wants control and calm. he hates chaos, so you are unlikely to see any kind of end to end stuff. What we did see last year though was lots of goals after 25, 35 or 45 passes. if you like that, great, you'll have loads of systematic build up play and if the end product has some quality, potentially a decent amount of goals as well. Good Luck for the upcoming season though... I suspect we will be clinging on for dear life to try to avoid relegation. Interesting read I expect a lot of moans and groans at the bridge when we reach the 18 and pass it all the way back to the Keeper to end up losing the ball.
June 3, 20242 yr I've said my piece on what I thought when it was a maybe. Now he's here and wearing CFC blue good luck to him, if he exceeds my expectations he'll get us in top 6 at least !!

June 3, 20242 yr Top 6...with his favourite keeper, pass out from the back directly to the opposition..it's going to cost us 12 points next season.

June 3, 20242 yr I wish I had the same blind optimism I used to have, but I can't be excited by the prospect of more Snoozeball.

June 3, 20242 yr Author The Las Palmas GK looks perfect for Enzo's football so its' just bloody weird and screams of the directors forcing Enzo to work with what he has

Maybe is a smoke screen for negotiations and Petrovic would get loaned If we sign a keeper? Or maybe they will tell him Lukaku is your striker and he will be "yes sir!" About it.
June 3, 20242 yr Good luck to him, he will need it. One of these days a new manager is going to stick around and bring us back to the level we should be at, I just hope this is the one. Ch-ch-changes

Just screams of poor scouting from the directors and trying to save face by telling Enzo to work with what he has.
June 3, 20242 yr "Development Squad PL2 champions". Trying to sugarcoat this one every way possible. Jeez.
June 3, 20242 yr So we fire the manager who won us the Champions League and ultimately hire the guy who won the Championship. Next season is essentially a write-off with Enzo learning the ropes as a manager in the toughest league in the world. Everything is easy with Pep and a world class system at City. But we are the antithesis of City in terms of footballing structure and decision making. Slim chance he survives the chaos but all the best to him and his team. And congratulations for another 10 mill we need to recoup from somewhere to maintain PSR/FFP. Edited June 3, 20242 yr by Nick05

I don't know why so much negativity, the man clearly has a decent CV there, he won trophies as a player and as a manager and historically CFC has done great things with Italian managers.

It's a complete and farcical 180 from what has already been reported. This will be a cross for Maresca to bear very early on. If he can't get the right formula with his midfield he keeps shuffling the pack until he comes up with a threesome that works. Get this wrong with Sanchez and Petrovic as your only goalkeeping options and the entire philosophy is in the sh*tpan. If he is as stubborn as people are saying I can see us limping through to Christmas before going into the market. As you say it has a developing familiar stench of these Winstanley - Stewart morons.

Then maybe we should sign their whole PL2 side to make it a lot easier for Enzo to coach. It's a good CV for clubs like Brighton who take a lot of gambles and where finishing 12th won't be a disaster and finishing 8th would be a resounding success. But for a club of our aspirations we need a manager who has atleast a top 4 league finish with a promising brand of football. Kompany went down straightway with Burnley. Arteta could've been sacked many times over at arsenal before he managed to turn things around. Chances of long term success with Enzo are slim and short term success are almost nil so yeah, hard to get excited about this one. Edited June 3, 20242 yr by Nick05
June 3, 20242 yr Let see what happens after playing repeated low blocks, coupled with PL counter attacking speed. I’m fully behind, but we’ve struggled with low block teams for 6+ years now.
June 3, 20242 yr Time to get behind Enzo, and the team! Doesn’t seem like the best decision on paper, but I’ll reserve any judgement until he’s been given a chance now he’s in the role.
June 3, 20242 yr Must say the reports from foxes fan, which seems to indicate we are in for a season of more pointless passing between the CBs, doesn't fill me with enthusiasm or excitement. Let's hope it is possession with a clear aim - as opposed to the possession for the sake of possession, that we saw often under TT and Poch.

Yep, after the universal horror we all felt when we were linked with Thomas Frank, we can all-see them rocking up at SB, defending a low block and rolling us....again.
