May 28, 20242 yr Over the last couple of years we have made some big gambles, young players, unproven players, sacking Tuchel, bringing in Poch, not many have really worked out. what I’m totally surprised about is that, if true this is the biggest and most risky gamble yet. Far riskier than anything we have done over the last few months. Do I trust the board? Our incompetent sporting directors? Not a chance I really hope this works out, but on track records…… I’m deeply concerned. Really hope I’m wrong.

May 28, 20242 yr I think some people are confusing being underwhelmed by the prospect and a default position that that means they won't back him. It is possible to do both. Am I concerned we are appointing a manager who has never managed a top flight club, has way under 100 games as a manager, never won major trophy and brings a huge risk that that lack of profile makes it easier for arrogant overpaid first team stars not to be on board if things take a downturn (which we know footballers regularly do)? Yep, too right I am. Will I be behind him as the new butt space in the dug out? Of course I will.

May 28, 20242 yr 5 years deal plus one, did the owners mistake him for a 21 year old winger? 😅 Even if he does have a good season or 2, there's no way he'd last 3-4 seasons. All manager will seek more control and power, he's not going to settle being a 'head coach' for 3-4 seasons, especially if he has some success ( which I hope he does). This feels like another case of Chelsea put up the way above market rate to win an auction that doesn't even exists.

I will bet money there are lack of results outs in the agreement and its subject to reviews. As for boring football let's wait and see. Leicester scored the second most goals in the championship last season and conceded the fewest I think. Maybe I'm wrong. The average score was about 2:1. If its the same in the premiership ha ha I'll be happy enough.

May 29, 20242 yr After suddenly firing UCL winning manager TT Clearfake (Todd Bully & Svengali) signed Potter a progressive manager with no track record managing the 1st team at a so called elite club paid Brighton millions of pounds to spring him. 6 months later they paid Potter millions of pounds to get rid after poor results and an outraged fanbase (that’s most of us lot) Installed SFL to placate fanbase while they conducted an extensive multi week search for Potters replacement claiming the time taken reflected the due diligence they were going to do after Potter being an obvious mistake. Announce Poch on a 2 year contract. Suffer awful form with Poch and worsening injuries to squad. Don’t sack Poch after losing league cup final, FA Cup semi, beating by Gooners; but wait until he goes on a 5 match end of season EPL streak and remarkably reaching 6th and qualifying for Europe when a lot of us Poch haters had accepted him in the dugout and were filled with genuine hope for next season like the Roman days. Announce that this time they will appoint Pochs successor within a fortnight. Appoint Maresca a progressive manager with no track record at managing the 1st team at a so called elite club paid (and) Leicester millions of pounds to spring him. anybody know the definition of insanity ?🥹 Edited May 29, 20242 yr by General

Really amused at this one, you don't get "value for money" with managers as you do with players by signing them earlier in his career. In theory by signing a young player you can pay them cheaper wages initially which can be a substantial saving over the life of the contract when you include things like signing-on fees, agent fees etc. If Maresca is a success with us he will either get paid a lot more or be the first choice replacement for every top club in a year's time. There is no cost saving by going for a less-experienced manager.

May 29, 20242 yr 15 hours ago, big blue said: I agree with all of that, just not sure why thought the need to initially respond with Arteta as an example of a manager that has won a Premier League with having won a title at a previous club. While we are on Arsenal and Arteta which you brought up, again they have 1 fa cup to show for 5 years work, a couple of near misses in the league, nothing to even get remotely excited about in europe, and out earlier in most of the domestic cups. Now you say this model has been great with Edu as the mastermind etc. Surely the biggest turning point was josh Kroeke taking charge and them moving away from signing potential stars, to them signing players with an actual pedigree of winning things like Zinchenko, Jesus, and then Rice, Jorginho and Havertz. So the patient, give Arteta time, let Edu find bargain youngsters with high potential model, actually had arsenal bottling top 4 finish 2 years ago. It's only the change in strategy and the increasing of the wage structure green lighted by Josh Kroeke that has allowed Arsenal to bring in the quality Arteta needed to actually mount a title charge. So again, this is not comparible to our situation. I don't get why you brought Arteta and Arsenal into the discussion, or why you replied initially with Arteta. Do you think change happens over night? Do you think Rice would have signed if the leg work that Edu and Arteta had put in wasn't bearing fruit? You're downplaying their achievements once again, without the Pep juggernaught in the league they would have 2 back to back league titles. I don't really understand why anyone wouldn't want to strive for that with what we've witnessed at Chelsea since the CL win. We've got the money to sign the superstars, we've got the structure signing the best upcoming talent, now we need a tactical manager to dominate games. I'll take a manager from the school of Pep any day because there are no other options out there.
