Enzo Maresca - Chelsea "Head Coach" *Official NOW SACKED*

Featured Replies

I am also leaning more on the optimistic side.

Fully behind the man but just not behind the directors and ownership. I hope Enzo does well but if it all fails the people making these decisions need to go and the project needs to be turned on its head or tweaked to the managers needs.

Looks like we're going to need a new goalkeeper under this guy because the current 2 we have likely wont be up to the task. Kepa could likely be a good fit for him but the ownership wont accept those wages.

Will admit I am very nervous after the posts from @Fatty_Speeding and @gurru991.

The absolute last thing I want see us try again is Sarriball MK II. Particularly worrying is the view that he takes an age to make changes in a game and persists with players who are under-performing.

Hopefully, he proves to be the exact opposite and, yes, we have to give him a chance.

Don't let the people on here get you down, they made a declaration of pessimism when signing up to the forum.

Tbh, I can’t blame anyone for feeling a bit pessimistic with the last few seasons in mind. The ownership and directors has a long way to go before they’ve earned our trust.
That being said, I do think our players in general are well suited for a possession game. We’ll probably need a new goalkeeper while Mudryk and maybe Gallagher loses out - although Maresca seems to like his attacking 8’s so who knows.

It’s a weird feeling of an appointment for me. In a lot of ways I am sceptical about his lack of experience and in others I’m optimistic that he has a certain way of playing that suits a lot of the squad and that he’s learned from pep. I completely agree with the argument that Arteta was even less proven when hired by Arsenal and the arguments of “but what’s he actually done, 1 fa cup?” I think are off a bit. If this Enzo bloke can get us challenging City then I would say it’s a good season. Alonso is another manager who was plucked from nowhere (with no prior experience anyway) and has done great things this season.

Yes the lack of plan b, passing the ball for the sake of it, the lack of subs is a concern but is that because of a lack of trust about the players he had at Leicester? It’s very similar to Kompany going to Bayern, in theory with better personnel then his philosophy would be a lot more compatible. Yes disasi and badishille terrify me in possession but if we get a new cb who is good in the system then colwill, fofana (if he can stay fit) and another would fit the system. Enzo and Caicedo would fit the midfield system perfectly.

So in all I’m quietly optimistic about this, by Christmas I’ll probably be eating my words but somehow I think it could work out well.

I may be wrong but I think Gallagher is a main reason pochetino left. Playing Enzo, Gallagher and Caicedo was reminiscent of kante, Jorginho and kovacic. I personally would love Gallagher to stay and rotate with Enzo but I think for ffp Gallagher is going.

One thing I do like about the appointment is that our squad (with 2/3 additions) seems to fit the style perfectly. I posted it earlier in the thread but Ben Jacobs is a Leicester fan and speaks quite highly of him

I don't mind a bit of pessimism, given Maresca wasn't my first choice either, but I do think that people are willingly looking at what could possibly go wrong rather than the potential of the appointment.

Nah worse Mod.

To sum up what we are hearing about him:

1. He is rigid and stubborn.

2. He picks his favorites even if they are sh*t. (Welcome back Raheem).

3. He makes Rafa look like a reactive manager with us use, or lack there of, of subs.

4. Leicester fans are giddy to get the 8mill plus for him as his football is like watching paint dry.

5. F*ck Sarri ball will return from the stands with Sarri replaced by Enzo.

You are an optimist aren't you.

I've been as pessimistic as anyone, but Marseca deserves our support despite what I think about this whole situation.

If it doesn't go well, the anger and disappointment needs to be directed to the owners and sporting directors, rather than falling back into old habits and targeting the coach for criticism.

If Winstanley and Stewart chose Maresca we're DOOMED! DOOMED!!

We are doomed it seems. Still I cant wait for next season worries and all. It does surprise me how  there is a divorce with Poch but the next girl hadn't already said yes.

There are rumours flying around we want to appoint Cesc to assist Enzo. In terms of assist-masters Cesc truly is one of the greatest..

I don't think cesc will choose to become an assistant over headcoaching in Serie a

Also to add to that, how many managers have won the premier league without having won a league title in another country?

1 Ranieri

Hmm what about Pellegrini and Dalgleish?

Why do we want Cesc as coach, has he shown ability? As a coach I mean.

Kepa being good with the ball at his feet is a fallacy tbh. He is as vulnerable under a press as any of the others. Regardless wither Maresca or RDZ that whole department is going to need surgery. If not, it going to get dark real quick!

We give Potter 5 years - use him for 6 months...we give Pochettino 1+1 - use him for 1 season... then we give 5 years again to this basically complete unknown. I know these are case by case scenarios but seems wild.

What i have actually been reduced to now is that i am sitting here hoping that this is the mother of all fake plays by Clearlake and Maresca will fall through and we will now get RDZ. They have beaten me, Yes i confess that I am ready now. Regardless of the silly spiky hair, the Brighton love in, the bait ball tactics. I am staring into the mouth of the abyss boring dross-ball and i say, Stop. Stop now, you win, I'm beaten. At least RDZ tries to attack. Okay I'm onside, bring in de Zerbi. For the love of God Egbhali you win!

Having had a bit of a think about this appointment, im glad we have gone for Enzo over McKenna. For me, the fact that Leicster didn't walk the league and the fact he isn't the hottest prospect in the world comforts me slightly. McKenna would have been a 'flavour of the month' appointment. He's been getting all the media attention and praise for what he has done, and rightly so. But that can often lead to people getting carried away with themselves and ignoring flaws or simply buying into the hype.

Maresca is clearly highly thought of, but in a similar way to how Bayern have decided on Kompany, we're hiring him based on his philosphy, how he's interviewed with the board and what we percieve his strengths to be. That is scary given our current set up's track record, but at least they have gone slightly against the grain with what could have been seen as an 'easy appointment' with McKenna. Wether people like boring Sarri style football or not, the board clearly want more control in our performances with the money being spent. I do get that to an extent, you dont want to spend 1bn and have to play sufferball evertime you play a top team. It would be nice to be the team on the front foot and in control.

I wanted RDZ once the 'shortlist' came out. But now the dust has settled a bit, we were right to not go with him if there were concerns about how he would work within our set up. Wether you agree with the set up or not, I can only imagine the meltdown if he got us top 4 but fell out with the board and we started this again next summer after sacking another manger for 'non sporting' reasons.

Although calls of Maresca being a Pep disciple is a little bit of a reach with him being at Mac City U23 for 1 season - 20/21 and as assistant to Pep for one season 21/22 the fact that he does have ties to Man City, any danger?
