I feel the Veiga situation has been badly managed by Maresca, and probably due to his experience at the top level. He has taken 4 GKs and 6 CBs to the World Club competition with Cucurella as the only LB. There is also the issue with splitting the squad into an A-team (PL), & B-team (Conf) should never have happened. Maresca was also playing James & Gusto at LB ahead of Veiga, so can’t blame him for wanting out. Club has also made a mess of the situation by signing Anselminho & Sarr who also favour the LCB role along with Badiashille who for whatever reason keeps hanging around like a bad smell, so I don’t understand the thinking there.

We signed him for just under £12m. Considering he looked quite decent in his appearances for us. Got into the Portugal squad and looked pretty solid when he played and also played regularly at Juve, I think we signed him for really cheap and considering he can play in multi-positions, I think he is a valuable player. I am quite annoyed he is not being kept. I think he can fill in for us as a back up CB and a LB instead of pursuing Hato and spending more and more money.

I agree. But if I believe what I have been reading this week he wants to be starting games more regularly, and he wants those starts to be at centre-half.

Was always bought to be a flip and seems like a Simeone player

Maybe I will be proven wrong, but I never really rated Veiga that highly. Maybe it's because we played him as a LB and CM, but I never really thought he was all that great at anything. If we can get £30m for him, I would be very happy with that.

He's on par with Calafiori, who arsenal paid 40M for so the estimation seems fair.

Apparently Atletico are one heavy for non-EU players on their squad ... and he is the likely odd man out.

There was an early round cup game (I think Morecambe FA cup) where he was absolutely and utter pants. He wasn't the only one who was rubbish, but he stood out as being particularly sucky. Cucurella replaced him around half time and turned the game.

I know he's a talent and I do like him, but that moment sticks with me as may have been his last kick of the ball for Chelsea

He was rusty in the in the first half, but improved in second half. He played the whole game btw. James and Lavia was subbed at half-time which was always planned. Veiga moved into midfield in second half and was a lot better. When he played in that position against Bournemouth at their ground, I thought he did very well. Put in some good performances in the UECL as well and then when he went to Juventus and played in his preferred role, he really looked assured. He is a good player, who is versatile and young.

Gallagher got an Irish passport last summer so that he counts as an EU player, Bellingham did the same at Madrid.

I did the same to get out of the UK and come to live in Spain.

I’ve never been impressed by Veiga, looked well out his depth everytime he’s played for us. But I’m also not a football scout and you don’t end up at Chelsea/Juventus and linked to Atletico if you aren’t half decent so for me if the numbers work, let him go.

I think the same with Chalobah, Gallagher simply can't play in Maresca system

Seems like we are going to bank with Veiga. I think he is the type of player we could use but he wanted a starting position in a team so why not then sell him.

This is the type of buy our club will hopefully do in the future as well. Under the radar young player that we can move on if he doesn't fit in the team. We used to buy the Bakayoko that we can't move on.

I don't think it hurts any young players future either. 1-2 years inside a massive club like ours.

Good question. Gusto seems to have been the cover with A.N. Other at RB.

Seems no-one at the club agrees with me, but I'd still liek Chilwell to be involved as an option.

So would I, but I think the only reason he's not going to be is down to his high wages. £200k p/w, so over 10m a year. A lot to pay for a back up option...

Possibly, though Maresca made it plain Chilly didn't fit into his inverting strategy. Regardless, a perfectly good back up even if not what he was thanks to his injury.

Atletico have made 2 offers for Veiga so far. 26mill and 30mill, including add ons. We are asking for 35mill including add ons.

So it is very close now, he looks to be the next one out the door.

We have to get used to lots of players that a lot of fans like leaving the club.

The strategy the club has under the ownership looks to be bearing fruit with the transfer of Petrovic, Madueke and now Veiga for good profit.

The issue is for each of the above there are another 2 at the club where we won’t be making any money and in some cases losing big money.

But great money so far for 3 players who aren’t in my starting 11
