It really feels like it could be 12 or 13 years before we see the best of Gittens.

I was happy he actually got involved tonight and had a shot on target but he’s clearly way off the required level. I feel a loan would be beneficial for him but we’ve spent 60m on him…

We don't have that much time Dan. Gittens wore gloves. It's early October. It isn't cold. Gloves. There is no hope here.

Estevao is the future.

I've worn a scarf in May and June, claiming there's a silent 'r' in those months PDT_kap

A few more performances like yesterday and perhaps he might change a few minds. Happy with his contribution yesterday, looked lively enough and got involved. Hope to see him up to speed through the Xmas calendar and beyond.

He is going to be quite a player. He had a shot on target against the scousers - which is more than Garnacho did. I think we have to wait for the arrival of Gittens - but writing him off this early is ridiculous.

Garnacho had Bradley on toast yesterday, put a few balls across the box any natural striker is scoring from. No surprise he was our highest rated attacker on the day that started.

Agreed, Garnacho had a good game. But my point was that Gittens had a shot on target and Garnacho didn't. Also, Garnacho made that ridiculous dive in the box when he should have stayed on his feet and perhaps had a shot on target.

Give the young man time Jesus Christ why does some fans think just because you pay big money for a player he will instantly come in and start firing. He’s young new to the PL completely different from Germany but he’s got all the attributes to succeed.

Liverpool paid £100+ million for a German international and he’s flopping

It doesn't help if you're hyping up the fact he had a shot on target really does it.

If that's the standard we're setting, I don't think we've recouped his 60 million transfer fee..

Shouldn't you give Wirtz time before saying he's flopping in the PL when he's only 22 and new to the league?

Not sure if that's ironic or not - I am guessing it is? Both of them are 21/22, now to the league and come from Germany. Hoping Gittens settles soon and shows us what he's really about. At least he was a bit more proactive on Saturday...

He probably will come good at some point but long may the licks continue given how neutrals/pundits treated Caicedo.

Really? The team had six shots on target during the game. Gittens had one of them. A game which was fairly entertaining imho. I think Gittens was decent when he came on. I am not sure what your expectations for a player are. Garnacho had a decent game - apart from that embarrassing dive - and Gittens looked good when he came on too. All four of our wingers put in a solid perfomances against the scousers. What is your standard?

I think I was trying to point out the irony of telling people to give Gittens more time as he's young and just come to the PL from Germany and then saying Wirtz who is young and just come to the PL from Germany has flopped.

However, I do though accept that Wirtz is one year older than Jamie and had more of an established reputation in Germany before coming here.

But hopefully flopping does prove to be the case for Wirtz (nothing personal) and that Gittens does in time transform into a great player for us.

So because someone else bought a flop we should accept a player currently not performing?

I don't think anyone has any issues with Gittens as an individual, the frustration is at the SD's flogging a winger than buying a (current) downgrade for more money. We should be upgrading season on season, not taking side ways steps. We're in the same position as we were when we signed Mudryk now.

If you want to tell people to stop writing him off so early, then by all means go for it, totally understandable. I think the kid is bang average and shouldn't have been signed, I see nothing special in his ability. But it's totally reasonable for fans to say give him time.

But talking about how he had a "shot on target" so everyone be quiet isn't really going to sell it. Mudryk had a superb debut against Liverpool, and look how he turned out in the end. If this is what qualifies as having a good game for Gittens, then we are in more trouble than I thought.

I am not as down on Gittens as others - but bigging up the fact he had a "shot on target" is the definition of scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Personally - I worry about these types of players in the EPL. Speed merchants who tend to need time and lots of space to run into. We see it time and time again that they struggle in the EPL. Mudryk at Chelsea. Anthony at Utd, Bailey at Villa, Sancho at Utd (not a speed merchant, but couldnt handle the lack of space in the EPL), Bergwyn at spurs, Pepe at arsenal, Fati at Brighton - and there are loads more hyped up wide players who came with big expectations, who have tanked in England.

Gittens has looked out of his depth in every game he played for us. A lively (albeit with lack of end quality) cameo against an open liverpool team, who were by that stage if the game attacking us in an end to end scrap, does not change the fact that he has looked hopeless.

One of the problems is we've got so many - not easy when you don't get a run in the team...

Well said.. it gets worse next season when Quenda the 18yr old £45m winger joins from Sporting Lisbon. They will need to create squad space, and I reckon UEFA sanctions will dictate that they might need to sell one of the wingers. Pedro Neto?

Anyone with sense can see that you can’t develop 2 21yr olds playing the same role effectively. Would be fun next season when we have 2 19yr old RWs in Estevao & Quenda.

whatever. I support Chelsea. I support Chelsea players. Gittens came on and had a decent game - a decent 15 mins or so and had a shot on target. Chelsea had 6 shots on target during the game. If you don't understand that - I am not trying to 'sell' Gittens to you - or any other Chelsea player for that matter. A lot of people around here need to have a little more patience that is all i am saying.

the way you talk about Chelsea players - Are you sure you're not a spurs fan? lol.
