He had a poor season, by all acounts, last year. He has 1 year left on his deal and then walks for free just like Donnarumma did to them.

As a keeper that puts him on the cheapest bracket for 1 year left on deals signings, starting at most expensive strikers, then wingers and other attacks, work your way back etc

His price should be half that. Milan need money and have no European football next season.

He'd bring leadership to the side like we had with Silva.

A period of 18-24 months separates Maignan being an elite GK that all of us wanted, to now not even being an average GK, which coincides with Milan as a club being poor in general.

I don’t know. I think at that price point, it’s worth a punt. Has the experience we all want in the back, leadership, and vastly superior on the ball which will help our build up and counter attacks. Defence could also be a lot more composed knowing Sanchez isnt behind them.

If it works, it works. If it doesn’t, we still have the eggs in the Penders basket.

If you had nightmares with Sanchez playing out the back wait till you see this guy. Can’t believe we’re interested when Sanchez has improved and is a decent shot stopper. And Petrovic is meanwhile waiting in the wings. Makes no sense to me.

I'm not sure you have seen him play more than half a season. He is phenomenal with his feet and I can only think of one goalscoring blunder off the top of my head from the last 3 years. I have seen majority of AC Milan games.

I like how this is shaping up. Magic Mike is a quality GK and I hope we wrap this up very soon. Pleased we finally adressed one key position in the team by getting one of world's best. I think this is as good as done. It also gives Penders two or three seasons on loan to gain a lot of experience and take the #1 spot here once he is fully ready.

Do you all remember back to Todd's window as SD? A lot of talk he wanted to sign CR7 as a "marquee" or "statement" signing.

Now the "statement" signing term is being used for this keeper.

Now while there are only a couple of players on CR7 level in terms of name and marketting revenue I don't even see how Mike here could make them marketing money that a "marquee or statement" signing should do.

Am I wrong on this and he is such a player?

Versus Feyenoord in the champions league? Saved 13 of 47 penalties. 27.66% save rate is pretty damn good, bout time we got a pen saver.

WE should go to Aston Villa they like a crazy deal and we should take Martinez off them and we could sell them a wonder kid? We have this brilliant generational talent winger - Omari Kellyman. Straight swap.

IMHO Maignan and Petrovic would be a massive upgrade on Sanchez and Jorgensen. Make this happen and with Santos and Estevau with Delap let’s say done then straight away i feel much better about next season. Guehi next he’s only got a year left on his contract and is getable then our spine looks much better and I wouldn’t be surprised to see others follow if they can clear out some of the dead wood it could turn out to be a big summer. Time to start acting like a big club with players ready to go now which is why I like Guehi being a Cobham boy etc no time needed to settle… straight in. There’s a lot I don’t like about our owners but they do put there money where their mouth is it’s a lot of fun being a Chelsea fan even in the close season. Other fans f**king hate it haha.

He's good keeper overall, when we look at modern football then we expect GK's to have ability to play with their feet.

Not sure how good his ball control, passing ability are. But one thing that he's good keeper and adds some experience to the defensive line.

Could be interesting signing, but I also think that Petrovic deserves a chance after his season.

Similar to Mendy, he had a wonder season then fell off. He's going two seasons of poor form at this point. Still capable of making great saves, but that shouldn't overshadow how poor he has been overall.

I wouldn't say he just had a wonder season. Had 3 great seasons in a row at Lille then Milan (made Serie A team of the year for his first 2 seasons there), and then Milan as a whole collapsed as he had some injuries/poor form and has been so-so. Still got awarded EURO 2024 Keeper in this period, although I honestly don't recall any of his games there.

Is he the best GK we could sign? Probably not, but he's available at a reasonable price (Milan are truly awful at selling their players, so we may even get a discount), fits Maresca style somehow and offers some kind of credibility to our goalkeeper status. We could do lot worse than having him and Petro/Sanchez as backup. I do hope Petro or Penders is the final answer though.

I hope to the contrary, but it is probably quite likely that Penders goes the way of Slonina. I simply have zero trust in Ben Roberts as someone who can ID goalkeeper talent.

Same with any none minimum fee clause deal. Player performs you get more, club performs as well get even more.

In his case:

20mill euros fixed fee.

4mill euros if he plays 50%, or more, of our matches next season.

4mill euros if he keeps 12 or more clean sheets next season.

6mill euros if we make top 4 next season.

Something like that.

Sanchez has had 5 errors leading to goals this past season.

Maignan has had 4 errors leading to goals in the past 5 years.

Regardless of his quality though stating your goalkeeper is your statement signing is a pretty underwhelming statement. This is no comment against him, just hope our unveiling of our statement signing doesn't occur on the same day the scouse unveil Wirtz to the world

Agreed, other than Donnarumma any other keeper is a sad "statement"signing.
