Joao Pedro

, Pedro was Brighton's record signing at around £30 million. A year later we stump up £50 to £60 million for the same player.

And it looks like we'll offload recently bought players at a loss. . And this big churn in players every year doesn't help the team or coach either

That's the way we roll down on Clearlake's farm where we sell for diddly squat.

Completely disagree on City. Their bench is stronger than our starting XI.

I'll be amazed if they don't win the league.

I don’t disagree they’re a better squad but that’s mainly because they already have top players like Haaland, Rodri, Dias, Ederson etc.

I doubt they’ll be as good as the team with prime De Bruyne, Mahrez etc. I don’t think the replacements are of the same quality.

We're the weirdest club in the history of football. Spending the most on a tonne of players that don't make out squad stronger.

This experiment better work.

And one that if we'd just held our youth academy players, would have a squad would have had an upper premier league quality side without having spent a cent in transfer fees.

This signing is a really good one. What messes this up is the fact that we keep stockpiling for the sake of stockpiling.

Why are we hoarding players??

The worst part of it is that if we kept our strong cores and didn't feck about it could have been like this

Petrovic

James, Rudiger, Colwill, Ake

Caicedo, Lavia, KdB

Salah, Palmer, Musiala

Osimhen

Seems like SDs really want a 'playmaker' striker for reason ie. a Firmino or Gudjonsen who can chip in with 10+ league goals but is primarily a facilitator, hence the chasing of Ekitike and signing of Pedro. Nkunku and Felix could have played that role but obviously will not. Jackson will likely be kept on as backup in a similar role, while Delap remains the out and out number 9.

This gives the squad a good deal of tactical flexibility...if the manager in charge actually wanted or cared about such things

In that situation, the club would have gone through the same process they are going now and that is assembling a young squad with the purpose of waiting 4 to 5 years until most of them hit their prime at the same time.

Rice, Musiala, James and all the other Academy graduates were not ready made players from the first day they turned pro. They all needed years and years of development and frankly a lot of those guys mentioned still need time to developed and some others were never good enough to begin with.

People like to fantasize of "what if?!", but when it is actually happening, it is still not ok.

I have come to peace with the fact that the new board took a different path, but you have to realize that you'd be asking the same question in 7-8 years if the board would be as impatient as a lot of the fans and would start selling the best players because they do not live at the standards imposed by Drogba, Terry and Lampard's Chelsea.

You would surely go back to asking "How Chelsea would have looked with Colwill, James, Cucurella, Caicedo, Lavia, Enzo, Palmer, Joao Pedro, Neto all hitting their prime or nearing their prime at the same time?". All having other youngsters like Gittens, Quenda, Estevao, Santos, Acheampong etc. ready to take over at any time.

I can see what the board are trying to do, but that does not happen over night and it takes a whole lot of time. Boehly needed around 8 to 10 years before he made the Dodgers a powerhouse again.

Year on year valuation growth maybe? These stockpiled players only get a true value when they are moved on. Hence the business is seen to grow.

So what's the plan for next season? Are we selling Jackson or playing with a second striker?

Good player, I’m on here a couple of years ago suggesting we buy him when he was at Watford. Only question I have though is, has he improved since his Brighton move? If not, which I’m not sure he has, why the price hike?

Another year in the EPL scoring double digits. That must add another 10-15m

It's the same argument we should be making for the donkey.

Plays on edge all the time but I like players with aggression. Not Jackson-type idiocy but our squad need a bit of edge.

So we have now replaced MM with Gittens and it seems Nkunku with Pedro.

We have tons of players to unload.

When we faced Brighton under Pochettino in that pre-season friendly in America he looked amazing. I have always appreciated his skillset but not overly excited over the signing. Hope it works. Hopefully the lad is not a disruptor.

This is bs..

Spending money on another player that do not make the team stronger.

Vertistal striker my ass. Did we learn absolute nothing by signing players like Felix and Nkunku?! Not really strikers, not really wings and not really offensive midfielders - but they can play it all, just worse.

START SPENDING MONEY ON PLAYERS THAT CAN MAKE A CHANGE IN THE STARTING 11!

It's a strange signing and it bugs me that we have dealt with Brighton yet again. But if it means we will be offloading Jackson, then every cloud and all that.

All the money spent and not one marquee signing that makes our rivals worry.

Not sure why people are so sensitive with Brighton...

Would agree. Think we got the last laugh with Cucu and especially Caicedo.

I get the banter between fans and some being sensitive on why the new owners love Brighton so much but they are a feeder club doing exactly what a feeder club does. They are also fine being feeders. They know their place. At their maximum capacity they can tease top clubs and get a win here and there but that is it. On resources alone they are much more efficient than most English clubs. You have to appreciate the way they operate.

We are not a feeder club and never will be.

I am a Chelsea ST holder living in Brighton and often watch them when we are away.. Strange signing and incredible price. Atitude problem on and off field Havent spoken to one Brighton supporter who will be sorry to see him go. I must have watched him about 5/6 times and often looked like a sending off. Also club suspended him for a training ground punch up.

Not a no 9 as goes out wide left a lot. Is very skillfull but doesnt get a lot of decisions because he is a diver.

From little I have seen a luxury individual player who may occasionaly make something happen in box Always looking to go down . I didnt see there last few games but understand he was not put back in team after his traing ground suspension so it may be a case of falling out with colleagues. He will be a smalll fish in a big pond here so that shouldnt be a problem.
