Most of his calamities have come from having to play out from the back and his legs turning to jelly when our opponents pressed. The mistakes the other night were a lack of the fundamentals for a keeper.
Yesterday at 06:041 day Petrovic was an upgrade playing under Poch, so it was weird to see us revert back to Sanchez after that. It was clear then that he wasn't good enough, and yet here we are a few seasons later.

22 hours ago22 hr I'm not a big fan of Sanchez and I think we need a better keeper now, but Martinez is 100% not the solution. Welcome to Chelsea Emi.

If you buy Costa for 50-60 million now he will be the starting goalie for us for a long time. So Penders development is stunted, his value drops and everybody loses. Better to sell him now, in that case. So if we finally decided we dont trust Sanchez anymore, I'd much rather get Martinez as a short term competitor with Penders, it buys Penders some time to develop without blocking him but it might be that Costa is so good we shouldn't really care about Penders. I dont really know
22 hours ago22 hr Martinez is short by modern gk standards and he does the odd stupid thing and at Chelsea that must be a no,no he will be a red card as the PTB in football still don't like us.He is not a big enough jump in standards than Sanchez for me.Perhaps he is good in the dressing room at motivation, not sure.

20 hours ago20 hr For all the people saying he's not as good as he was etc etc, he's STILL better than Sanchez which is the important thing. If we get a couple of seasons with him while bringing Penders through (assuming Penders is as good as he's meant to be) it will be well worth it. The goalie market isn't very good but we cannot go into the rest of the season with Sanchez as our goalie, having him in goal is like starting with -10 points. Truly a 'strikes confidence into attackers' goalkeeper.

Truly a 'strikes confidence into attackers' goalkeeper.I am mixed. Would take almost ANYONE over Sanchez, but do feel Martinez's best days are behind him and have never been overkeen on some of his behaviour. There are a number of keepers we could have looked at as soon as last season was finished, who I would take before Martinez.Trafford (too late Leeds got him)Henderson (can't see Palace selling yet another player)Pickford (another one whose best days might be behind him but would still take him)Costa (haven't seen huge amounts of him but he's well rated)But if we can't get any of those, and we feel Penders is still too raw, I guess Martinez for a season or so, has to be better than sticking with Sanchez. Juventus didn't fancy the risk.Likely the biggest stumbling block (besides his wages). There is an argument that one game a week will help manage his situation better, if of course, his finger hasn't healed yet.

There will be very few keepers around that haven't got mangled fingers. Occupational hazard and doesn't stop them playing. My own son's fingers are permanently out of shape and that's from non league. Maybe not to Eddie's level but not far off
18 hours ago18 hr Personally if we were going for an older head to act as mentor and still be top quality i would have gone for Oblak.I suspect that part of the appeal is the availability of Martinez. You would think that there isn't a great deal to do to make this happen, even for our idiot directors. The bigger issue will probably be trying to move Sanchez on (Saudi please)
18 hours ago18 hr If we manage to get rid of both Sanchez and Roberts on deadline day then the redemption arc has been completed.

It's a broken finger that hasn't properly healed. He was advised to have surgery but declined because of the WC. It hasn't healed because he has played on with the problem.
