The greatest player in our history is...

On a serious level, I just don't know. Drogba, Zola, Lampard and JT have all been "great" in their own right. It's just a question of how greatness is defined?

Pure talent: Gianfranco Zola

Greatest individual contribution towards winning silverware: Didier Drogba

Consistency at the highest level: Frank Lampard

On-pitch leadership, resilience, longevity and quality: John Terry

It all depends on what you see as the most significant quality.

For me personally, I'd lean towards Drogba.

The greatest player for me is Osgood. His charisma and loyalty, added up with the fact that he was a brilliant footballer who performed when it mattered the most, makes him a clear cut winner for me. I would also, probably a bit surprising, put Wise up in the top 3-list, but that's just a personal choice.

However, the best player I've ever seen play for us is Drogba. Some of his displays, the two legs against Munich in 04-05 in particular, are still the greatest I've ever seen from a center forward. He made Lucio, in my opinion the then best central defender in the world, look like a mix of Cundy, Rougvie, Senderos and Cygan.

Lots of different eras to choose from. It's hard to choose a "greatest" or "best" because, unlike what others that aren't fans would believe, there is a TON of history at this club.

If I had to choose one, it would be Peter Osgood. A true legend and a man that will always have his name linked with Chelsea Football Club.

Are there any documentaries (either recorded or written) of Peter Osgood, for us, kids?

Ossie: King of Stamford Bridge is a great read, but its quite difficult to get hold of now. My copy is at my parents so if I can dig it out I will PM you and send you it.

And the answer to the question is Ossie, every single time its Ossie. If we ever get a player better than him in the modern era then we will win every trophy with ease.

I would say Frank, hands down for me however I didn't have the pleasure of watching Osgood etc play. I got into football when I was 8/9 so I only have the 1996 to present day era to decide upon.

Frank seemed on course to get the place on the pedestal until his injury during Carlo's second year . Until then I was pretty sure he was the greatest player to wear Chelsea blue. Now however I would say Drogba. The last two seasons and Drogba's previous contributions make him our greatest player imo.

For me it's Lamps, i was lucky enough to see the remnants of the great early 70's side so i've seen a few come and go, but no one as consistently excellent as 'Super Frank'...

Proper Legend

Alan

So many LEGENDS to choose from, past and present.

Franco Zola just for me but Lamps could get the nod after he retires. Let's see how many more goals he scores and how much more trophies he wins.

Chopper,Ossie,Gullit,Zola,JT,Didier and Lamps. All Legends! CFC.
