Never a red card for Torres, but that aside, he had yet another poor performance today. Its so clear to me that Torres is holding the rest of the team back.

What game were you watching....he had a decent game today before given the red, linked up well and put a few good crosses in, worked hard and tracked back whenever he needed to. Give credit where credit is due...if he sucks fair enough but not today...

You post rubbish with out a shread of evidence, just hoping the lets hammer Torres brigade arrive in time to back you up.

Wtf is with this bullsh*t about him deserving a red first half? The ball was in the air and torres when to clear it and kicked cleverleys arm. He didn't boot him in the chest like I am hearing from some clowns. Wtf was with that red card? I'd like to see anyone running at pace at someone and getting studded in the shin yet staying on there feet. People that say he went down easily either have never played the game or are just trying to find a way or justifying such an awful awful decision!

Anyway other than that I thought he had a decent game. Linked up well as usual with the 3 behind him and de gea pulled of an immense save from a good header. He wouldn't of played wednesday anyway so I suppose if your going to get a ban then wednesday ain't a bad night to have it. I expect him to be firing all cylinders next saturday against swansea to stick one up that f**kers ass!

Torres was once again his usual self today giving another underwhelming performance: He lost the ball numerous times and, aside from the odd moment here and there, barely threatened the opposition's goal. Ok, he worked quite hard at times and his link up play was decent, but I'm sorry that's simply not good enough for a player that cost £50 million. Granted, Torres' performance levels are better now than they were last season but IMO he's just not good enough in every sense.

We've just been mugged of at least a point and all you wanna do is come on here and slate torres? Have a day off will ya! Wtf were you watching?

Ferguson and his players are the biggest sh*t stain on football..

They cry when they don't get a decision (it happens a lot hahahahaha...ha), and they congratulate incorrect refereeing decisions regularly, despite the fact they were clearly incorrect and just favouring them.

The world revolves around them, and they like to let anyone who will listen to it, know.

I have to say i really really do want Torres to do well and be the player he was but it really is starting to get to a point where as the article above suggests with a player like RVP or Falcao playing upfront instead of El Nino, we really would be a frightening prospect to deal with ! Torres of old with that pace and precision in his finishing would be amazing but it really isnt starting to look that way anymore.

Just to stir the pot, here is something from the Telegraph:

http://www.telegraph...a/9639599/.html

I think the biggest problem with Torres will always be his price tag. Because of his cost he will always be slated in the media and he will always force the hand of his manager to play him no matter his consistency. It is a shame really, were he purchased for less he would be a valuable role player and perhaps celebrated. Unfortunately that is not the case here and that is the tragedy of it all

I had a thought this morning, im not saying its right, it was just a thought. Does anyone think the reason we are not seeing the liverpool Torres at Chelsea is because of love. Torres loves Liverpool, i dont believe he loves Chelsea at all. He is an employee not part of the family. Drogba loves Chelsea, Frank, JT, Luiz and others love Chelsea, they fight for Chelesa, even when not in the team they want Chelsea to do well. A few weeks ago when Drogs had a break in China he returned home and went to visit the training ground.

Torres admitted that last season he found himself not caring and although the club have given him evreything they can to me it seems like he still doesnt care that much.

But he do everything for his friend juan :)

fair enough U Know It Makes Sense but when you are paid as much as he is and given the opportunities he has I would say the criticism is fair. Compare him with RVP who has hit the ground running and not faded into the background in a big team with 4-5 no 9s and you just wonder.

You're comparing a striker who is in career best form to one who had his potential best years stolen from him by chronic injury and mismanagement?

van Persie's in a great headspace at the moment. Torres, as people have pointed out repeatedly here, isn't. van Persie is nowhere near as quick or as flashy as he was when he began his Arsenal career, but he's scoring even more goals.

Call it confidence, call it automaticity, whatever. What separates the top level of players from those below them is how unconscious or automatic their ability is compared to those below them. Van Persie's in the "zone" and Torres isn't.

Sometimes a complete change of context is the only thing that will change a players fortunes, allowing to "start over". We're probably at that point for Torres, but he's playing in a way that is far from being a liability to the team, he is bringing out the best in the players around him.

People are so fixated on Torres's past; either your blindly believe he's going to return to that player, or you must criticise every moment he fails to live up to that idealised model. Neither is realistic, it's pointless debate. I wish that we could return to discussing his play in the moment and on merit, instead of reams of meaningless speculation over what "he would've done" that would shame most fundamentalist religious.

People need to realise that the "old Torres" is never coming back at Chelsea for any length of time, because by the time he finds the correct headspace his body will be long gone. That also means that we need to accept Torres as he is and judge him for what he actually achieves on the pitch, not judge him against his former reputation or against what other strikers did or do.

Fantastic post.

Torres was gone when we bought him, he was not the pacey predator that had given us so many headaches over the years because injuries had taken that yard or 2 away from him.

We have a talented striker on our hands but one whose head was not in the right place as he has mentioned many times (even close to calling it a day) but recently he has rediscovered his passion for the game that has come with being a first pick on the team sheet.

You are correct that the Torres we used to see is no longer here or ever coming back but like RVP he needs to develop his game that will see him continue to be a top striker at this level, it’s up to Fernando to do this and he has my full backing.

I hated that Telegraph piece Torres holding the team back ? it's a bit much

He may look as if he wouldnt take on the whole of the utd defence, I don't think Van Persie would either, however he didn't stop to look around for support in the Nou Camp.

I would agree at this moment in time that RVP would look brilliant in this team but he is no Torres and Torres is no RVP; what a stupid comment to make

So, let's say I've never seen Torres play before he joined CFC. Let's forget his past form, huge price tag, wages and high expectations he arrived with.

Would it be ok to suggest that based on what I've seen of him so far in a blue shirt Fernando is not good enough to be our first choice striker? I don't care that he's linking up well or is trying very hard. I want a world class striker that scares the sh*t out of the opposing defenses every time he steps on the pitch. I want someone who can create goals on his own. For a team of our ambition it's a must.

We gave him plenty of time, were extremely patient and bent over backwards to accommodate him and it's still not working to the extent that it should. Time to go for a different option.

So it is not Torres fault, (am I glad about that) it is management fault for buying a player that is no longer himself, so this thread is irrelevant, so, let all those "lets bash Torres" fans desist in this unfair criticism, but of course they will not, they have their own agenda.

i find it very funny how people defending torres bring up the "dont let his past or £50million price tag cloud your judgement" argument

on the contrary, those are PRECISELY the two things keeping him in a chelsea line up.

based on his chelsea career alone and nothing else this lad would not still be starting for us and the only reasons he is is because the board/fans are hoping he can rekindle his glory days and in hope that £50mill wasnt spent on feck all. think about it.

Be careful what you wish for. I'm not saying it will happen but if we took torres out the team and put in say a falcao then you may find that mata, oscar and hazard don't find an understanding with him like the one they have found with torres. Not only will that effect falcao performance but it will also hurt the others aswell.

What I'm saying is every game this year bar the athletico game and the shaktar game our front 4 have linked up well and looked a threat. Why change a front 4 that is grabbing the goals and firing us to the top of the league?
