Even if he isn't the best player of the three Torres is the biggest name.

If Inter are looking to make some statement signings for next season then they might opt to try and sign him to go with Vidic who is joining on a free.

I can't see City letting Dzeko go, his goals to games ratio is too good and Jovetic is looking a bit of a naff signing right now.

He would be a statement but even now I can't see how fans of other clubs could get excited about Torres joining them? I mean surely they have seen he is no longer a lethal striker...not even a half decent one.

His wages would be a huge problem I imagine but hopefully Inter can work something out.

His record in Europe is pretty good and so I imagine you could sell him on that.

There's a chance he might do alright in a league like Serie A, he'll never hit the numbers of his Liverpool days but I would think he would score more goals than he does for us in the league.

With 2 years left on his contract now his wages aren't as big of a stumbling block now because as long as Inter or whoever offers him a 3 or 4 year deal even on reduced wages the total value of the contract is worth more than what he will get for staying with us for 2 more years.

I agree Seria A will suit him more as the player he now is and I think a change away from England and the media can be a new start for him.

I'd wager he would score more and play far better too just due to the speed of the game in Italy but it would take a good fee to get him as I cant see Roman saying take a guy I spent £50 million on for peanuts.

It's a good point on the wages but are Inter in any shape to offer even a contract of 60k upwards for that length to any player?

No idea what sort of money is available in Italy right now, I don't think financially they can compete at the moment with England, Spain and Germany (well Bayern) and it's a problem we are creating for ourselves by handing out big contracts and then if the transfer doesn't work out the options are limited as to who/where you sell.

For the most part Chelsea are now handing out smaller contracts and I think it's a sensible way forward.

As for Torres, personally I would like to see him move abroad like you said just to get the fresh start, he isn't going to be getting the level of scrutiny and coverage he gets every time he pulls on a Chelsea shirt.

As for a transfer fee, I think we would accept in the region of £20m for him, he's 30 now and the club are surely realistic about his value now.

I'd bite your hand off for £20 million, I think more realistically it would be £12-15 million given his current form.

Either way it makes sence now to part ways.

not looking forward to the scum game at cesspool..........if we start with nando, as seems to be the case for away games, he's gonna get lost in the mire with savage abuse thrown at him, like previously, and as toothy/sturridge are scoring freely, he'll especially feel the pressure......seems to go missing against them

really hope Jose has a great game plan, to shut them out and for nando to come up with the winner..

Eto'o if available will start that one.

For whatever reason, maybe our style of play, Torres losing his pace , it hasn't worked out for us.

He would go with our blessing, but for all those defending him, ask yourself this....If he was that good, why have we been after a replacement these last couple of years ?

Fact is, for a 50 million striker, he has failed us.

Thank him for memorable goals, Barca and Amsterdam spring to mind, but lets put the sorry saga behind us.

Jose Mourinho on Fernando Torres' performance: "I prefer not to."

I pray we somehow rid us of him in the summer.

If he actually said that then I think surely his time is up.

Should of taken him off then!

He's like a kid who has won a competition to play in a friendly for their local side. Is he even a footballer any more? Or is he going to become a full time pouter and thrower of arms, with football just being a little side job to scrape in enough money for all those haircuts?

I actually forgot he was on the pitch in the second half, I can't believe how invisible he was. Roll on the end of the season when we can try and sell him and get a real striker in.

Horrible performance.

Eto'o has to play as our number one til the end of the season when he's back fit. just cant do it without him. while he's injured, stick schurrle up there and leave torres at home
