Nathaniel Chalobah

What a pass from Chalobah against Bradford in the FA Cup tonight, outside of the boot as well:

Not sure that he got it, but many on twitter advocating he should get Man Of The Match for tonight

He's been good enough to play for us for a while. It's not been a secret but we f**ked his development up by loaning him to a Forest team who played completely the wrong type of football for Chalobah.

Now he's in a team who play a brand of football closer to our's. But Loftus-Cheek has probably overtaken him and he'll probably go on loan again.

Played in the Youth Cup Final for us a couple of years ago and was in a class above everyone else on the pitch except for one United player - Paul Pogba.

Something not right there as we haven't played Utd in a Youth Cup Final?

Not that it matters, how ever good these youngsters are it seems to count for nothing unless they are Ronaldo/Messi/Hazard standard. Josh was head and shoulders above everyone bar-none in the final when we beat Villa but look where that got him.

Meant to say semi-final. Memory fading.

Josh never had the physical tools and that was a constant worry but you're right that they seem to have to be world-beaters when the reality is that they simply have to be better than the likes of Mikel and Ramires to get a spot in the squad.

But we have a manager who uses 11 players more than the rest and seems unwilling to take many risks. For those of us who follow the academy teams and go to matches, it's incredibly frustrating.

We can have Loftus-Cheek, Chalobah and Ake on the bench, maybe one of them will even take a place in the starting 11. (I'm talking about next season of course)

We really can't.

Trying to give them all games when they all play the same positions wouldn't work. You pick one and stick with them. I would rather it was Ake as he's our best youth in my view but, unfortunately, his height and size will mean he won't be trusted despite being technically superior.

Had a really good game vs Arsenal today by all accounts, and was one of, if not Reading's best player.

Delighted to hear he had a good game, against Premier League opposition. Hopefully this means he's regaining some of the momentum he lost during some bad loans. Ideally he'd get pre-season with us because he's a huge talent, but I suspect he could spend next year on-loan at Reading which is a bit of a waste.

He should look at the likes of Coquelin whom he faced yesterday as an example of a slightly later developer. Would love to see him make it here.

The thing is the likes of Coquelin and Kane are result of right time right place. had soldardo not been such a fail and had Wenger actually been able to address the DM role, we would barly know these players names. Timing is everything.  It might be right for RLC because in my opinion we are a bit light  in center mid. With only 2 really top players there. Any youthplayer who could pull up tree's on the right might also be right time right  place

Bit unfair on Wenger there.

One thing about Wenger, he gives youngsters a chance, he doesn't block their path.

Jose prefers to sign the finished article, if Wenger likes the look of a youngster you can bet your bottom dollar he'll give them a fair chance.

Not so much about timing but who you play for.

Honestly, if my child were supremely talented, I'd be encouraging them to join Arsenal and not Chelsea.

As it stands, we have an abysmal record with promoting youth.

Jose made a big song and dance about fielding Lotus-Cheek, he barely gave him 10 minutes, in a meaningless game, and he had the cheek afterwards to say the player ought to thank him.

Sorry Jose, but you got that one wrong.

Bit unfair on Wenger there.

I'd go along with that, we all like a dig at our rivals and Wenger but let's give credit where it is due, he's bought and promoted a hell of a lot of players aged 20 years and younger into the Arsenal squad.

One thing I would say he has over Jose is spotting and trusting young talent.

While I probably agree with your last sentence look where it got Arsenal and Wenger. One FA cup.

It's all about fining the right mix. Hopefully the pressure will be slightly off next season (if we win the Pl). And we can integrate some youngsters.

Well if we're honest, Wenger bought into the club's vision of building for the future, they built a new multi million pound stadium and to help fund that they held back on splurging on large transfer fees.

Now they're investing in their squad more heavily such as £42m for Ozil and £35m for Sanchez and they've reached consecutive finals. Despite the relatively low spending they stayed competitive over the 9 year period in the sense that they managed to continue to secure top 4 positions and the money the Champions League brings, something that Liverpool and even Manchester United last season struggled with.

In an age of FFP you could argue that Arsenal are now extremely well placed to remain competitive and they're clearly improve as a club.

I agree with you. Just youth won't cut it and now they're spending they seem to be a better side. They're finding the right mix I guess. Hope it doesn't take us as long as them though.

But even now they are spending they allowed Sagna to go and it's allowed for the emergence of Bellerin who has played very well this season on top of the emergence of Coquelin too.

I thought Gnabry had played a few games too, but apparently not. Worth bearing in mind that Oxlade-Chamberlain and Chambers are both still under 21 and have played in more than half of Arsenal's games.

Coquelin was on-loan at Charlton and Bellerin only got a chance because Debuchy was injured.

My gut feeling is that the myth of Wenger giving youth players a chance is just that.
