I think the faults of the loan system is greatly exaggerated, most players arent good enough to play pl football regularly until their early 20s.

Its not just ourselves but also if you look at a player like michael keane who we have been linked with recently. He had 4 or 5 loan spells before finally starting to show he is pl standard.

The closest player we had to making the breakthough was ryan bertrand, and he also played a huge amount of games on loan.

There are certainly negatives in the loan system, mainly because every loan is a gamble.

I think our failings havent necessarily been the loans themselves, but we have failed to continue the momentum built with some players.

Really happy for nate though, and i do think rlc could use some regular football at senior level.

funny you say that. I think I read quotes from emenalo (or possibly another DOF type) who said you would expect players to come through and properly establish themselves in the first team around the age of 23 which to me felt very late (and possibly a way of buying himself and his programme more time), but maybe there's something in it. personally I felt chalobah could've been put in the squad after his watford loan but nonetheless it was heartening to see him being the first player off the bench today.

I wonder if they are basing bringing them in at a later age on seeing how quickly players burn out, especially English ones. The schedule for players in the prem is very hard on the body, and many of our players peak early and go downhill rapidly, especially compared to our continental brothers. The problem is many fans expect to see 17/18 year old prodigies playing 30 or 40 gamesin the first team, and young players themselves expect it too.

I take your point, but I don't think so. I think it is purely down to conservatism on the part of the managers combined with a fear of not delivering immediate results. I don't think it is a grand design to protect the kids.

What I think is maybe chalobah not being totally new to what adult top level competitive football is emboldens conte to use /rely on him more than he would for an aina or a loftus cheek.

I can't believe how little was made of his lovely lay of for Moses goal on match of the day, they almost completely ignored it .

That is expected as per chelsea related. The good is always overlooked but the bad......they will bleat on and on and on and on......

I agree, all it got was something a long the lines of 'a nice little touch from Chalobah' from Shearer and that was it.

if Rashford had done it, they'd be lining up to sing his praises and there would already have been 5 Sky Sports articles about it.

Conte has admitted that any young player who is good enough will get their chance with him.

“People who know me will know I don’t gift a place to anyone,” Conte told post-match reporters.

“Only those who deserve to play will play for me. It is important for Chalobah and Aina to understand this.

“When I have called Chalobah he has always answered me in a positive way. If they are ready I will put them in.

“In the future they can play from the start. Age is not important. I made my first appearance in Serie A at only 16.”

Impressive, comments from Conte, I think we will really start to see the youth finally coming through under his stewardship, and not just get chances but successfully sustain positions in the first team.

Really impressed with Nate, more so than any of the other graduates to date.

Aina looks promising, however lacks composure on the ball which is expected from an up and coming youth player. RLC for me two years ago could have been the one, he looked at his best in the 1-1 draw we had with Liverpool playing in the holding midfield role but since then it looks like he's struggled to find his identity. He's got all the physical attributes, and at youth level he was able to just walk through teams but that isn't the case and he's struggled to step up so far.

Chalobah on the other hand looks very composed, positional awareness is spot on and the backheel for Moses's goal showed an other side to his game. Also I guess on a more personal level I'm just delighted for him, I'm sure there were points in all of those various loans he thought he'd never make it here but hard work & determination seems to be paying off!

One part of the match that stood out for me and it's not much was when RLC was strolling about when Leicester had the ball at the back. Nate ran past him full speed chasing down the defenders.

The clear difference was the attitude between two young players, as a fan it makes you think "go on lad" and a great way to impress the manager.

Exactly this which is why I believe Conte rates him deal Aina so much full of energy RLC on the other had just looks lazy at times no energy no urgency

Only 21 and has made 109 professional appearances , while scoring 10 goals. Not to shabby i'd say, also he can just improve. Glad he finally got a chance at the club, long may it last.

That's amazing, when you consider he barely played during his spells at Burnley and Napoli. He'd be burnt out by now if they'd picked him every week, so we can be grateful they didn't give him much of a chance. He's looked quality for us since Conte took over (I'm including pre-season), and I'm delighted he's getting some opportunities.

This forum just shows how much the fans want to see the youngsters come through. Again a kid gets a chance, looks good and the forum lights up. Hopefully this won't be like every other prospect and just fade away.
I was impressed with Traore and Kenedy last season and now they look to be on the back-burner. I really hope it's not just words from Conte about using the youth. We've heard it all before time and time again. If they're good enough, they'll play. But then they don't.

Please, please let us see the academy boys breaking through!!!

I think the 100+ games Chalobah played is giving him the edge over RLC when comes to selection. I don't mind players going on loan, I'm sure Traore would got less than 30 minutes of playing time in the league had he stayed. The problem is for most players we have no f* plan to bring them up. That Hector guy we signed last season, I doubt he will even make it to the lockeroom. Lucas Paizon (?) we signed a few years back, supposed to be the next big thing, where is up these days?  Conte to his credit, is trying his very best to play youth players. It's really up to the players to grab the opportunities, they aren't going to come every week if we drop points.

Yeah not at Burnely and Napoli but went double figures for Watford, Forest, Boro and Reading. He got 42 games for Watford and that was four years ago.
